A Letter from Reba

In August of 2015, I received a call from Alice, my oldest sister.

The news was devastating, scary and the last thing a little sister wants to hear, especially when her big

sister is her rock, her hero, protector, greatest supporter and one of her best friends. After 8 mammo-

grams, the doctor finally gave Alice the news that she had suspected for a while; Alice was diagnosed

with breast cancer. Over the next month, we as a family stood hand in hand with her as she underwent

a lumpectomy and radiation therapy. Cancer took front and center stage and all of Alice’s attention and

effort was put into beating the heck out of it! The entire process and ordeal was one that brings a

whole new outlook to how you feel and respond to this horrible disease. When someone you love goes

through breast cancer you feel absolutely helpless. Without prayers and our heavenly Father, I'm not

sure we as a family would have been as strong and confident that Alice was going to beat it. But she

did. She beat the heck out of it!! Alice is going into her 2nd year, cancer free.

Breast cancer organizations such as Susan G. Komen Tulsa allow women and men to receive over 4,000

screenings and diagnostic services a year. It allows 4,551 women and men to receive educational

services. It provides outreach and patient navigation services and much, much more. That's why this

year, I'm honored to host the Susan G. Komen Tulsa's Pink Stiletto Gala at River Spirit Casino

Resort. Let's keep striving to eradicate this horrible disease. Let's beat and end breast cancer!
