History of the Triad Pride Men’s Chorus

Page 5: Winter 2010

History of the Triad Pride Men’s ChorusIn late 1998, three men from Greensboro who had been driving to the Triangle area every week to sing with the nearest gay men’s chorus decided to take a chance. Hoping that there would be enough interest in and support for a gay men’s chorus in the Triad, they advertised for singers. Over twenty men showed up in January 1999 from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and other area towns—all eager to join together in pride and in song. In June of that year the Triad Pride Men’s Chorus held its first concert. Since then the chorus has doubled in size. Membership is open to gay and gay-affirming male singers. TPMC is a member of GALA Choruses, the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Choruses. TPMC continues to grow, both musically and organizationally, enabling us to expand our mission to perform choral music to entertain, enlighten, and enrich while promoting equality and social justice for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity--fostering pride, understanding and acceptance. We remain so grateful to all our audience members, donors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, and singers for raising us up to new heights, ensuring our success.

Dear Triad Pride Men’s Chorus Family,

Thank you for joining us for our 12th season. Sing Loud, Sing Strong, and Sing Often is my mantra. Who/What is Triad Pride Men’s Chorus? TPMC is comprised of individuals like you and me that support the arts and support a gay and gay affirming organization. What does TPMC offer? TPMC offers a free voice lesson every week; it offers love, kindness, friendship, and a family community. TPMC gave us a safe haven to heal and recover from the passing of our brother Randy Benitez and gave us the opportunity to celebrate his life. If you have ever considered joining us as a singing member, volunteer, or supporter please see one of our board members or myself to see how you can become more involved. You will find it a rewarding experience. Watching my brothers on this journey as they as they grow musically, professionally, and personally, I have been amazed. When joining TPMC in 2001 I never thought or dreamed I would become President of the Board, I was just looking for a place to sing.

In closing, TPMC’s mission to Entertain, Enlighten, and Enrich our community, this mission is underwritten by your donations and support. The general operating budget and the production costs of each show are dependent upon your generosity. We could not do this without you!! Thank you to all of our loyal supporters who have supported us from year to year to year. Remember, all donations are tax deductible. For more information please take some time to visit our website at www.triadpridemenschourus.org. Our mailing address is 200 N Davie St. Box 20 Greensboro, NC 27401. Our email address is: [email protected].

Thank you and Sing,Robert Jordan
