I have been congratulated by many for taking this step. I was surprised, at first, not knowing why people considered it so important. In reading my brother’s Christmas letter, I realized that people see me as who I am and where I am inspired to make my greatest contribution. No surprise to anyone, it is in strengthening the fabric of good will that exists in the world through a commitment to lifelong learning and through the vehicle of ESI. It is where I am an “Inspired Grinder”. And what is an “Inspired Grinder”? Here is what Mike Lewis shared in his Christmas letter: One of the phrases I appropriated from a wonderful and courageous friend of mine many years ago (Laird Hunter) was the need for all of us to think of ourselves as inspired grinders. I adopted the essence of this phrase, or at least tried to. Inspiration is important, but without the willingness to undertake the grinding work of realizing the goals and projects that flow from it, little of consequence is likely to emerge. On the other hand, grinding without inspiration deadens the soul, too easily becomes a source of cynicism, digging us deeper into the rut of existence, without vitality and aspiration to transform. Looking at the results our graduates create, particularly those that complete Mastery II, I know the work we do lays the groundwork for people to become “Inspired Grinders”. It is then through that means they make their greatest contribu- tion. And so, as I wish you the best for 2010, I leave you with a quote from long-time Program Leader, Dan Sullivan: “Visualization without implementation is hallucination.” Making our dreams more than just dreams requires doing the work. My invitation and my challenge to each of you for the new decade is to get inspired to do the work and if you are already inspired, set up the support to grind into action. Enjoy the fulfillment that comes from the integration of both. As we dawn a new decade, I have left behind my job of 15+ years at Vancouver Island University to work full-time in Excellence Seminars International (ESI).

It is then through that means they make their greatest contribu-tion. And so, as I wish you the best for 2010, I leave you with a quote from long-time Program Leader, Dan Sullivan:

“Visualization without implementation is hallucination.”

My invitation and my challenge to each of you for the new decade is to get inspired to do the work and if you are already inspired, set up the support to grind into action. Small And Mighty But What’s Going On Behind the Scenes…

Talk About RESULTS!

The Advancement of Excellence is often described as the course where the rubber hits the road. Delivered over 6-8 weeks, with incredible support, participants often create unprecedented results in their lives… and across many areas of their lives from relationships to careers! And, what is really cool is that at the end of it all, we get to celebrate those results. Enjoy some of the images captured at Commencement Celebra-tions. Happily, we enjoyed twelve such Celebrations in 2009, in Vancouver, on the Island, in the Yukon and in Seattle.

Pam Lewis, Laura Bentley, Lorraine Jensen, Christina Bianchini, Jill Badger-Caldwell and Michelle Ross at our Annual Summer Think Tank.

Each summer, during our “down-time”, our Management and Service Rep Team hold a two day Annual Meeting or Think Tank. We take stock – looking at what we have done over the past twelve months and set plans for the next year, always working to improve and create more excellence. Periodically, during the year, we check in to make sure we are on target and we course-correct when we are off track. It is a great process and over the years it has been where fresh ideas have been germinated and new directions taken.

Looking at our results from 2009, it is clear that we are staying the course in terms of the quality of programming we offer and we continue to expand! We delivered 67 programs in 2009, up from 59 in 2008. Looking ahead, 2010 looks like it will be a year of unprecedented growth. Exciting stuff, especially considering how small our team appears to be. It is what goes on behind the scenes that worthy of comment, however. Graduates of the Excellence Series contributed in the neighbourhood of 17,000 hours assisting programs in 2009. Significant… YES! Grateful… more than words can express! Our team isn’t so small, after all. Over 300 people assisted those 67 programs and countless more supported those they care about to take our courses. Thank you to our Team of 100s for your extraordinary and ongoing contribution!

CONTRIBUTION CORNER: Strengthening the Fabric of Good Will in the World… Our Thanks to All Those Assisting Fall Programs!

1.800.399.8081

Participants in the Advancement of Excellence in the Yukon are asked to strengthen the fabric of goodwill in the world through making a contribution to their community. This is done in teams with each choosing a project to undertake during the two month program. A total of five projects were completed this Fall in Teslin and Carcross, respectively.

In Teslin, the Spirit Lifters, coached by Dalyce Huot, created a medicine wheel that is now hanging in the school which they believe will encourage their children to ask questions about their heritage and through that create more meaning in their lives. The Circle of Life, coached by Robin Smarch, fished for trout and salmon for weeks, smoked and canned the fish and then created and delivered gift baskets to elders and shut-ins. The Care Bears, coached by Kelly Morris, created affirmations on stones and positioned them in places of importance in Carcross, Whitehorse and Teslin.

In Carcross, the Page Turners, coached by Lil Mitchell, prepared and delivered a presentation in the school on the Law of Attraction and the value of empowering each other. The Inspirationals, coached by Aaren Hajash, made a couple of hundred signs based on the virtues of the community and in the middle of the night posted the signs around the community. You can imagine the surprise and delight that spread throughout the community as they awoke to all the positive affirmations they were surrounded with.

Congratulations and thanks to all of you for contributing your time, energy, creativity and commitment to making a positive difference in your communities!
