It has light tannins, is soft and suits pasta or pizza dishes. Alcohol is 13% by volume and the bottle is screwcapped. $ 11 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Allegory 2008 Cabernet Merlot Brand-new and attractive label from the Burch family that gives us Howard Park and Madfish wines. This blend is a squishy ripe-fruited style of red wine that is designed to be drunk in its youth. The tannins are gentle; the palate medium-bodied, oak adds a light savouriness and the finish is balanced by soft acid. It’s all good - fire up the barby. $ 14 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Redbank 2010 Sunday Morning Pinot Gris Pinot gris is a masochist, it loves cold weather and the King Valley, high in NE Victoria, has plenty of that. This youthful Valley wine is an attractive green/ straw in colour and is redolent of ripe pear, has a light textural palate with a smidge of sugar and satisfactory acid on closure. Not to be missed if you enjoy this variety. Don’t age, drink now. $ 16 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Deep Woods 2010 Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc This has been fiddled with, unlike your average sav blanc and you’ll notice a light smokiness on the nose along with the normal grassiness of the variety and the palate has a gentle creamy texture, citrus fruit and fine acidity. It’s the partial fermentation in oak and lees stirring that add complexity. Trophy winner Royal Adelaide Show 2010. $ 16 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Flametree 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon The stunning show success of Flametree’s reds is rubbing off on to its white wines. Margaret River semillon with its lemony traits and good palate weight marries beautifully to the light herbal characters of the local sauvignon blanc in this new release. Drink in its youth for maximum enjoyment. $ 16 99 each in 2 bottle purchase La Boheme 2010 Act One By prominent Yarra winemaker De Bortoli, this is a ‘classic dry white’ style blended from sauvignon blanc, semillon and rolle, the latter a late-ripening grape that is found in Italy in Vermentino wine. The result is of medium weight with plenty of colour and then a depth of lemony fruit flavour extending to a crisp cleansing finish. Good quaffer. $ 17 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Vavasour 2010 Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc (NZ) Proudly Marlborough sauvignon blanc with loads of fresh tropical-fruited and grassy aromatics that the region is noted for and it has a long well-balanced palate of light citrus and minerality. Best consumed in its youth, as a pre-dinner drink or with light foods. It also works well with spicy Asian cuisine. $ 17 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Ninth Island 2009 Pinot Noir Here’s a lighter style of pinot from the Tamar Valley in northern Tasmania. It’s a pale plum colour, has sour cherries and gamey character on the nose and slight earthiness on the palate, finishing with a bracing acidity. Best to serve this slightly chilled to about 14°. Char-grilled tuna or salmon would work well with this wine. $ 18 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Dance with the Devil 2009 Shiraz Tempranillo A new blend by Devil’s Lair of Margaret River. This spicy fruit-driven young wine is a deep mauve/red in colour and has the generosity of ripe plummy shiraz fruit tempered by the savouriness and granular texture of tempranillo. An early-drinking style that would be ideal with sausage, fried onion and mash. $ 19 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Jacob’s Creek 2007 St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon A change of label name from Orlando to Jacob’s Creek hasn’t altered this Coonawarra red in any shape or form. It’s still a classic with rich blackcurrant fruit, a decent spanking of sweet oak, firm tannins and good length of palate. This is built for a decade in the cellar, but like most good reds, drinks well in its youth. Classy. $ 32 99 each in 2 bottle purchase G.H.Mumm Cordon Rouge NV Brut Champagne (Fr) Although nearly two centuries old, this House is probably making its best wine right now. This red-striped white label NV wine ticks all the right boxes with its bright straw colour, freshly-baked bread bouquet and long elegant crisp palate with boundless energetic effervescent bubbles. Absolutely delightful. $ 49 99 each in 2 bottle purchase Johnnie Walker Swing 750ml Johnnie Walker Swing - named for the distinctive bottle, in which an irregular bottom allows it to rock back and forth. Johnnie Walker Swing was originally created by Sir Alexander Walker, a master blender par excellence and grandson of John Walker, during the golden age of travel in 1932. $ 89 99 each
