There is an unseen war raging in our world and lives today. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Satan unleashes all the power he has to draw people away from God. Chapter two of II Peter has dealt strongly with false teachers and false prophets. Peter has revealed the character, motives, and strategies of these false ones. Are there really people all around us trying to deceive us? According to the Bible, these people are everywhere setting traps and trying to lure people in. As we move into chapter three, Peter wants to, “stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance”. There is an urgency and warning in Peter’s pen as he writes this. He even points to the holy prophets and other apostles to give this warning strength. Peter wants us to remember, “that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts”. These scoffers are willingly ignorant of three important facts.

THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN

Realize That God Loves You. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

The Bible Says That All Men Are Sinners. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory to God.” (Romans 3:23).

God’s Word Also Says That Sin Must Be Paid For. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

The Good News Is That Christ Paid for Our Sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We Must Personally Pray and Receive Christ by Faith as Our Personal Saviour. The Bible Says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

Creation (5) These scoffers are willingly ignorant of the Bible’s six day creation account in Genesis 1-2. The fact that God created the heavens and the earth. “Willingly ignorant” means by their own choice they allow these truths to lie hidden or escape their knowledge. The Bible’s creation account has never been so strongly attacked and opposed as it is today. Who denies the creation account? The atheist, agnostic, humanist, public schools in America, and even some Christians deny the creation account as given in the Bible. Darwin’s theory of evolution has given these scoffers a way to believe in creation without God.

Evolution and millions of years has torn down the authority of the Bible. Evolution cannot fit into the creation account of the Bible since it places sin, suffering, and death before Adam and Eve. Peter warns 2,000 years ago that people would deny creation.

The scoffers are also willingly ignorant of the world-wide flood as given is Genesis chapters 6-8. God’s judgment brought a flood that covered the entire world. This was a catastrophic event. These scoffers, mostly the same ones that deny creation, say there was no such thing as a world-wide flood. While trying to explain bent soil layers and fossils, these same scoffers admit to the need of some catastrophic flood event to even produce such layers and fossils. The scoffers’ explanation is to small local flooding. Again, Peter reminds us these are facts that the scoffers are willingly ignorant of.

These scoffers willingly deny anything that has to do with God and the Bible no matter how the facts add up. Why would these people willingly do such a thing? No God then no accountability to Him. Man does not want to live accountable to God. Man wants to do what man wants to do.The Judgment (7)

The scoffers want no creator, no flood, no judgment and therefore no accountability. Even in Noah’s day the people did not think God would judge the earth, but He did. We see the evidence of this flood all over the earth in soil layers, canyons, and fossils. It is interesting that Peter warns us 2,000 years ago about three of the most prominent disagreements among people today. Creation, the flood, and a future judgment are all strong arguments today. What you believe about the creation account in Genesis does matter. If you do not believe in God’s creation account you cannot strongly believe anything else in the Bible. Do you see why Satan is attacking these truths so strongly? He wants to tear down God’s Word.

The last fact these scoffers are willingly ignorant of is the coming judgment of God. God has judged the world, nations, cities, and people before. The Bible declares God will judge again. These scoffers deny any such judgment. Read Revelation 20:11-15. God’s judgment is real. Is your name written in the Lamb’s book of life? If not, you just read the judgment that awaits you.
