*My Experiences
*Clearly establish a biblically-sound stewardship focus for giving
*Care for the Pastor and Clergy based on the ability of the ministry.
*Choose the Right CFO & Finance Committee
• Sold-Out for God• Committed to the Vision given to you
for the ministry• Able to communicate the bad news
while understanding that God is in control.
*Planning is Key to Success; Cash Flows, Budgeting, Policies, etc
• Must plan for using our limited resources
• Puts the vision into achievable to-do’s• Provides a guideline for when we are off
track.
*Use Fund Accounting to manage your financial operation.
• Use of a General Fund to support the basic mission of the ministry for all and frees the ministry up to fund its vision.
• Relieves the desire to fundraise for specific needs. Fundraising is not biblical.
*Institute IRS-sound policies & procedures, incorporate, 501c(3), 1099’s, giving stmts…
• It’s easier……………..• It’s the law and we are to render unto
Caesar what belongs to him but……..he only gets what he is due!
*Manage your Cash Flow tightly – Cash is a king and its rough in the kingdom without it!
• Review planned expenditures at least monthly
• Financial statements are historical, develop procedures that allow you to plan and monitor your available cash.
*Implement a ChMS (Church/Non-Profit Management System)
• QB is fine, but there are good products out there made specifically for churches and ministries.
• Cloud-based systems make life easier for volunteers.
• Integrated online giving, mobile giving, etc…….
