Wild Animal Sanctuary Madison Wertz The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a 789-acre animal rehabilitation sanctuary located in Keenesburg, Colorado. This sanctuary specializes in rescuing and caring for high-risk large predators who are being ill-treated, their owners can no longer provide care, or are on the track to be euthanized. The Wild Animal Sanctuary’s current education center is a 48,000 sq. ft. outdated space. It is in dire need of a redesign that can accommodate to the current needs that the sanctuary requires. The primary intention is to create a space that can accommodate large groups. These groups are provided for in the new theatre, classrooms, and large dining spaces. There is also a new focus on education. Almost every space houses an educational aspect that allows for people to go into the sanctuary and depart with a newfound perspective. Finally, the sanctuary has been redesigned to provide an inclusive feel, allowing for every guest to be able to partake and enjoy the spaces they have present. LOCATION: Keenesburg, CO Inspired by the Baobab tree’s natural order, this building focuses on creating a sense of tranquility that nature acquires. Like the animals of the Wild Animal Sanctuary, these trees are resilient and persevere through arduous times. This space will build respect and promote education through form, texture, and movement.
