Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Whītau School Kia ora koutou katoa! Talofa lava! Mālō e lelei! Greetings everyone!

Education Review Office Visit Next week The Board and staff look forward to welcoming a team of three reviewers from the Education Review Office to complete our school’s ERO review. The reviewer team of Caroline Gray, Mark Bell and Bernadette Dawson will be onsite for four days so do make them feel welcome. It is now just on four years since our last review was completed in 2015, so we look forward to sharing the progress our school has made on our Whītau School journey of ‘learning to take us places’, with our review team. An ERO evaluation review supports schools to ensure that

● Every child can succeed as a lifelong learner. ● Every child and their learning is the heart of all we do ● High quality education for all learners

● Equity and excellence for all learners

Staffing for 2020 The Board and I are delighted that our staff is very happy and stable and there will be very little in the way of staff changes for 2020. The Board has appointed Tegan Ristow, Victoria Bernard and Ruby Leonard to permanent teaching positions. We look forward to welcoming back Mrs Kelly Heads (nee Smith) as a permanent teacher and we have also appointed a highly experienced teacher Mrs Alison Cox who currently teaches in Ashburton and Miss Samantha Sasse from Canada who currently teaches in Wellington. Sadly we will however be farewelling Mrs Bobbie Mackie as she retires from her teaching career.

CPPA Awards for Middle Leadership Teacher Professional Learning Today I was a very proud Principal to attend the Middle Leadership Presentations where Sam Turner, Stephen Wood, Laura Schulze and Roīsīn Anglesey presented their leadership learning journey at Whītau School this year in a creative storybook they had collaboratively written. Part of my Principal role is to ensure that I encourage and develop leadership in our teaching staff and our Middle Leaders are a great team to lead. Congratulations to you all as lifelong learners!

News from the Kārawha Team and Mr Turner The Kārawha Team have been extremely busy working on some amazing costumes and designs for our inquiry focus this term. There are some fantastic creations being developed by our students so that they can wow you at the end of term wearable arts show. Please feel free to speak with your classroom teacher if you wish to help out in any way with these beautiful pieces of work.

News from Room1 and Miss Tegan Hollis-Ristow This term Room 1 has said farewell

to six students who have moved

through to Rooms 2 & 3. We have

also welcomed 9 new students

from Room TKW and Seini Fifita

into our classroom. This term is all

about the arts, so in reading we

have been making plays. This week

the children in Room 1 each preformed Mrs Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley. We

have been busy focusing on Myths and Legends in inquiry and writing times. In

writing we have been making our own Myths based on stories such as ‘How the tiger got his stripes’ and ‘Medusa and

Athena’. In inquiry we have been looking into the story of Maui and the Fish, we are about to start making wearable

arts based upon this story. In the meantime we have looked at some other things that Maui has done like catching the

sun!
