We grow our trees on our own plantations and work closely with our partner growers While that may not sound like a big deal, it makes a massive difference to the finished product that will eventually com-plement your customers living room or office.

Planting our own trees under the careful supervision of our own arbo-rist gives us complete control over every aspect of the trees develop-ment from planting and pruning to feeding and cutting This degree of care and control ensures that every tree that passes through our gates has been able to achieve its full potential and is the fullest and freshest example of the species. Being vertically integrated also al-lows us the ability to control how the trees are grown and replanted in the most sustainable manner

non droP Christmas treesideal for indoor use (Abies Nordmanniana)

This variety is the preferred choice of modern Britons as the needles are not pointy and the tree benefits from its ability to retain its needles even in very dry conditions. The tree has flattened needles which are a glossy dark green on top with two blue-white bands of stomata below giving the Nordmann Fir its signature two-tone depth, like that of the olive tree Available from 3ft These are ideal for those with children or pets as the needles are not painful

We recommend that you stock the majority of your trees as Nord-mann Firs as they are by far the best selling species If well watered and not near a radiator or fire they can last up to 6 weeeks!

We mainly supply premium quality Nordmanns which will be bushy and evenly shaped, but have some second quality trees that will still be sellable at the right price to the budget conscious consumer

(Abies Fraseri)

A species of fir native to the mountains of the eastern United States. The species is in fact named after another of our Scottish brethren the botanist John Fraser (1750–1811), who made numerous botanical collections in the region They are characterized by a heavy density; with rich colours of platinum silver and deep hues of blueish green

They are grown in pots, in the ground, resulting in them having an increased long term survival rate As long as they are kept watered and not subject to frequent temperature changes they can be placed back outside after Christmas There is no guarantee however that if you repot or replant them into the ground that they will survive although some do

traditional Christmas trees ideal for outdoor use

Picea Abies) are the traditional Victorian Christmas Trees They have a fresh scent and elegant fine foliage. These trees are not soft to the touch and tend to drop their needles very quickly when they are brought indoors therefore we do not recommend getting your delivery in November or early December as their condition can deteriorate rapidly once in a warm indoor environment The tree can be bare in less than a week if it gets too warm and dry In Queen Victoria’s day the tree was traditionally put up on Christmas Eve so this short lifepan was not a problem, but today’s consumer usually expects the tree to last far longer, so the less fragrant Nordmanns have overtaken in popularity

The Norway Spruce is ideal for outdoor use These are the trees that you will see in town centres and public spaces across the country The ciy of Oslo in Norway still sends a massive Spruce tree to be placed in Trafalgar Square every year in thanks for help from the UK in the Second World War

A typical Spruce will have bushy, fragrant foliage, but the customer should b aware that the needles will not stay on it for long A water holding stand will help but it will not have the lifespan of a Non drop variety Therefore these trees are best not stocked until later in December

Cinco stands.

We recommend a stand with a water reservoir as these allow the tree to absorb water and maintain their foli-age for longer. Cut trees, like flowers can require large amounts of water especially during their first week in-doors Our water holding stands are suitable for trees up to 12 feet tall

We stock various sizes to suit every tree and sell the high quality cinco brand

our Water holding stands

Wooden BloCksCut and block service available.

We can “point” trees up to 7ft (2 1m) and provide sturdy blocks into which the trees can be inserted which helps when displaying the trees

Above this height we recommend displaying the trees in sturdy Christmas tree stands for greater stability

Customers often prefer the rustic, natural look of these blocks to a plastic or metal tree stand however they do not allow the tree to be watered to maintain freshness, therefore the customer should be advised that water holding stands are preferable, especially if they are pur-chasing the tree very early and expect it to remain fresh until or beyond Christmas

netting & funnelsNetting will have to be removed to diplay the trees for the customer to choose which one will suit them best After they have picked their tree it will need to be re-netted in order for them to easily transport it home

If you do not have a netting machine (or funnel) we can supply you with one as well as a supply of netting The funnel is very simple to use - just push the tree in one end and pull it out the other with the netting around it and cut and tie the ends

Wreaths & Garlands Our natural garlands are hand made with real Noble Fir and can be used indoors and outside They look and smell amazing and are a great way to make extra sales and income from your tree buying public

Many people who don’t have space for a tree will buy a wreath or garland instead so they still have that traditional Christmas look and familiar aroma

Our 3 most popular ranges are the Plain, Decorated and Fruit wreaths and garlands

Garlands are 2m long and wreaths are available in 3 sizes; 10“, 14” and 20” diameter

Noble Fir Swags Swags are an increasingly popular choice with consumers in recent years and we can supply top quality handmade products at great prices!

sustainaBilityHere at Pines and Needles we are passionate about trees and all things green! In fact Pines and Needles is committed to helping the en-vironment in every way we can Here is a list of the measures we take to ensure that we play our part in helping the planet, along with some insights into Pines and Needles unique Environmental Policy:

• We are carbon positive for most of the year as our trees absorb Carbon and emit Oxygen. It is estimated that each acre of Christmas trees produces enough oxygen to meet the needs of 16 people During the Christmas season we are Carbon Neutral as any emissions from transportation and delivery vehicles is offset by the trees still growing on our plantations Real Christmas trees are better for the environment than artificial trees because they do not use non-biodegradable plastics and metals, and can be recycled through chipping for use in gardens

• For every Christmas tree that is harvested, Pines and Needles replants seedlings in its place, ready to begin the cycle of growing, fixing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen again for us straight away

• We always use power-saving LED lights as they use a fraction of the energy of old fash-ioned incandescent bulbs

Proud Members of the British Christmas Tree Growers’ Association

All members of the BCTGA have to con-form to strict standards in sustainability:

SeedOnly sources which are sustainable and do not present any threat to endangered species are used

Planted areaThe area of land used for the cultivation of Christmas trees is subjected to a sur-vey on environmental; ecological and ar-chaeological impact

Cultivation of TreesThe growing of trees will be done in ac-cordance with the best practice indicat-ed by research in the UK and overseas

ChemicalsThe British Christmas Tree Growers As-sociation will commission and encour-age research into methods of dealing with pests and disease which reduce or eliminate the need to use chemical herbicides or pesticides Growers will have available for inspection any re-quirements under the COSSH Regula-tions and will guarantee that any use of chemicals will be in accordance with the current Pesticide regulations and will be the minimum necessary to deal with the particular problem

WildlifeChristmas Trees provide an excellent habitat for many bird species British Christmas Tree Growers take account of the habitats of these birds in the cul-tivation of their trees The cycle of grow-ing and harvesting Christmas Trees is particularly conducive to birdlife and no work will be done which will disturb nests or young birds

HarvestingThe cutting of Christmas trees is done in winter and has little or no effect on breeding or disturbance of wildlife Trees will be harvested and handled to ensure the absolute maximum freshness for the purchaser
