What better time for personal and professional renewal than the start of the New Year? The Center for Faculty Development & Diversity, in collaboration with the Center for Professionalism and Peer Support, is offering a seminar on mindfulness and reflection.

This is an experiential group session. We will slow down the pace and engage in mindfulness and reflective practices that allows us to consider the challenge and opportunity for finding balance in our life and work.

Upon Completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

- Recognize the challenges of maintaining balance in our lives- Experience mindfulness practices and the benefit of being present in our lives- Listen to self and others more deeply

Facilitators:

Pamela Seigle, Executive Director of the Center for Courage & Renewal Northeast based at Wellesley College, and an affiliate of the national Center for Courage & Renewal. This work is inspired by author, activist and educator Parker J Palmer, PhD, and focuses on the renewal of personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality.

HR 101 for Researchers - Effective Interviewing: Using the Behavioral Based Approach

The interviewing process begins long before the day of the interview. It requires planning behavior-based questions that will zero in on the candidate's talents, passions and overall fit for the organizational need. This workshop provides Research Faculty (including newly appointed PIs or established PIs seeking additional preparation for hiring and managing lab personnel), and Research and Lab Managers with the opportunity to learn about the Behavioral Based Approach to Interviewing. At the end of this interactive 2 hour session, you will have the skills and knowledge to:

- Define competencies for postdoctoral research fellows and research assistants/technicians

- Write behavior-based questions - Identify key steps in conducting an effective interview - Probe for complete answers in an interview session - Handle the interview challenges

The workshop will be led by Lianne Crossette, an Organizational Development and Learning Consultant with BWH. Lianne is an accomplished learning professional with 18 years of experience.
