Software Update 1

For a full list of maintenance items resolved in Edgecam 2014 R2 SU1, please refer to the Edgecam 2014 R2 SU1

Maintenance Database Report.

Note: SU1 has an internal version change. This means parts created in 2014 R2 SU1 cannot be loaded into 2014 R2 RTM or earlier.

The Service Update contains a number of enhancements:

Turning - Datum Shift to a CPL

The Datum Shift command now has one more option:

CPL - Only available in Turning, with a fixed tool loaded. This allows the user to select a CPL to

create an absolute shift. If the CPL on the list is the current active CPL, then a Z Shift can be used

to specify an incremental shift.

Update Stock and Turret Synchronisation

The Update Stock command in turning now has two more options when the machine has more than one

turret:

Single Turret Only - Inserts the Update Stock only in the current turret; not acting like a

synchronisation command. This should be used when one turret is working alone on a spindle.

Can only be used when Generate Sync is Off. Once an Update Stock for a single turret has been

created, it can no longer be edited to become a full Update Stock.

Generate Sync - Disable this so that the Update Stock does not act like a synchronise command.

No synchronisation order will be passed to Simulator or NC code when this is disabled.

Important Note: Single Turret Only and Generate Sync = Off should be used with extreme caution as

they cause stock and synchronisation behaviour to become unstable if different turrets are working or

may work on the same spindle. A full Update Stock (with Generate Sync = ON) should be used in

situations where turrets may be waiting or if cycles depend upon the state of the stock machined by a

different turret.

Strategies

Hole cycles now check if the current tool is valid and avoid creating duplicate tool changes.

If Waveform roughing cannot be applied (pocket too small) then apply concentric roughing.

Granite Models - Single Solid support

Previously, when the same granite model (Creo Parametrics) was loaded into an Edgecam part file a number of times, each instance would be stored. The software now only stores the first model and creates references to the other copies. This can dramatically reduce the size of the PPF file.

Changing Stock modifiers resets the Mating Location

In workflow, the mating location is reset if the stock modifiers are altered. This may be undesirable, particularly when editing an Edgecam part from a previous version. To disable this behavior, use the PCI variable

!checkUpdateStockMating=0.

Solidlink - Unigraphic CADLink support

We are now able to extract CADLink data from UG NX models. However, we have limited UG NX solid models to fully test this functionality, if you find that the CADLink data being read into Edgecam from your UG NX model is incorrect then please supply Edgecam Reseller Support with your model and a list of the CAD features (threads, datum planes, colours, tolerance information, etc.) applied to the UG NX model. This will then allow us to fully complete this work.

5-axis - Rapid moves simulated as resolved movement in 5-axis cycles

When the post processor is set for Unresolved Rapids, rapids from within 5-axis cycles will now be transformed to High Feed movements to avoid potential collision. It is important that the post is correctly set for Maximum feed rate value.

Tool Tips for Advanced Buttons

When the Tool Tip is displayed for an Advanced button the values of the modifiers are displayed. Greyed out modifiers are not listed.

Editor

Improved resequence of Heidenhain control format.

Software Update 2

Edgecam Workflow Solids

Edgecam Workflow Solids (EWS)

This release introduces simple solid model creation capabilities within Edgecam.

This solid model design tool is called Edgecam Workflow Solids (EWS):

Traditionally, Edgecam users have created 2D geometry in the Design mode and then applied a machining cycle to the 2D geometry. While this can still be done in Workflow, we have added a basic solid modeller. This gives the users that previously created 2D geometry the ability to create a solid model and then use the powerful tools within Solid Machinist to find features and machine the component.

EWS is a single solid design tool within Edgecam Workflow that has been developed for producing prismatic type solid models using basic modelling tools. Users can now create 3D solid models with little or no training. If the user has any experience of 3D CAD (e.g. Part Modeler) then they will be able to produce EWS models very quickly. We envisage that EWS will be a valuable tool for CAM engineers/CNC programmers and, because of the intuitive interface, shop floor personnel such as toolmakers and CNC setter/operators may also find it useful for designing and making simple jig/fixture components to aid manufacturing.

Manufacture Enhancements

Hole Cycles - Use Current Stock

The previous Mill Hole Cycle did not take the stock model into account when determining the Level and Clearance.

A Use Current Stock option has been added to the Clearance Associated to modifier in the Mill Hole Cycle. When selected, the Clearance and Level will be associated with the current Stock and Fixtures ensuring that the tool cannot rapid into either.

This option is only available under the following conditions:

'Model Type' (in the General tab) is set to 'Solid' (only valid for Hole Features).

Mill Environment is selected.

Planar Mode is active.

The Clearance value will be added to the highest point on the stock or the fixtures selected in the last Update Fixtures command. This is a single value for all holes selected. If the stock/Fixture is not found or is below the top of the Model, then the Model high point will be used.

The blue bar in the image indicates Clearance.

The Level value will be added to the top of stock above the hole. This will be found by dropping a tool (slightly bigger end mill) onto the stock. Potentially, each hole could have its own level. If no stock is found or it is below the level of the feature, then the Hole Feature level will be used.

The red bars in the image indicate hole levels.

The depth will be recalculated to include the level adjustment if needed. The Depth value will then be added.

Finish Turning Canned Cycle / Use Rough Turn Contour

Canned Cycle and Use Rough Turn Contour have been added to the Finish Turning General settings.

The Finish Turning cycle can now be set to share the contour of a Rough Turning cycle. This is primarily required to enable Finish Turn to use the same canned cycle contour definition as Rough Turn.

Note: For this release, speeds and feeds on individual elements of the canned cycle contour are not supported.

Additional Makino Post Processor settings in Edgecam Wire Erosion

New Program Number Format and Sub Program Call Format settings have been added to the Output Options tab.

New Rough Turn - Percentage Plunge Feed

A feedrate adjustment can now be applied to the downward feed approach moves prior to making the main cuts. Typically applied when machining undercut regions.

Default Offset for 2 Axis and 4 Axis Wire Cycles

The default offset for 2 Axis and 4 Axis wire cycles has been changed to zero when no technology is selected.

You should modify the Offset dist setting in Cut Technology on the Technology tab, as required.

The minimum offset specified needs to be greater than the wire radius when not zero.

Machine specific Technology Modifiers added to 2 Axis and 4 Axis Wire

Cycles

Machine specific technology modifiers for ACfanuc and ACvision machines have been added, in new tabs, to the Wire Cycle dialog.

The values entered on these dialogs affect the technology settings which are output to the NC; they do not affect the wire toolpath in Edgecam.

Please refer to ACfanuc and ACvision programming manuals for details of what these modifiers mean.

Edgecam Automation Tools

Edgecam Automation Tools

You can now develop four separate types of customisation solutions.

Edgecam PCI Scripts

Scripts are written in JavaScript and can use the PCI toolkit to control Edgecam. They are not licensed, apart from:

Web Forms need the Advanced Customisation option.

JSON Techniques are supported and are licensed under the Advanced Customisation option.

Scripts are simple text files which cannot be compiled or protected.

Edgecam Plugins

These can be developed using .NET based languages such as VB.NET, C# and C++ and can use the PCI and PDI toolkits. They execute as add-ins to Edgecam and can perform simple or complex tasks with their own user interface, if required.

Plugins can be compiled and protected.

Note: Plugins must be used with the Advanced Customisation option.

Edgecam Quiet Mode (new in 2014 R2)

Edgecam is normally started as a desktop application which interacts with the user, but now you can choose to run with no user interaction. Note that the application is still visible. This requires the new Advanced Customisation option.

Scripts and Plugins can be used in Edgecam Quiet Mode: simply start Edgecam from the command-line or from a batch file with a “/q” parameter and a script to execute, for example, “edgecam.exe /q startup.js”.

Page 15: What’s New inmoodle.joinville.ifsc.edu.br/.../Help/whatsnew.pdfWhat’s New in Edgecam 2014 R2 SU2 This document highlights new product features and enhancements in Edgecam 2014

What's New in Edgecam 2014 R2 15 of 65

Edgecam ActiveX Server (new in 2014 R2)

Edgecam can be launched as an embedded ActiveX Server with access to the PCI toolkit and plugins (launched using PCI calls). This needs the new ActiveX Server option.

Typically, a hosting application such as Excel will create the ActiveX object using its VBA macro language and can use the PCI toolkit to automate Edgecam. Many applications can create and use the Edgecam ActiveX object:

Internet Explorer can use JavaScript in an HTML Application (.hta) to send commands to Edgecam.

Any .NET application including ASP.NET web servers can create the ActiveX object directly and control Edgecam remotely.

When running as an ActiveX server, Edgecam has no user interface whatsoever.

The difference between Edgecam Quiet mode and Edgecam as an ActiveX Server is:

Edgecam Quiet mode will start with a script, run the script and then close, with no user interaction.

Edgecam as an ActiveX can be controlled and interacted with as the parent application dictates and several instances can be launched safely.

In Quiet mode, the Edgecam interface is still visible, but, in ActiveX mode, it is not displayed.

You can run multiple instances of Edgecam in ActiveX mode without conflict. Running multiple instances of Edgecam in Quiet mode can result in one instance interfering with another (e.g. they use the same temp directory).

Note:

1. Quiet Mode and Edgecam Server can only be licensed as part of a Network License installation where multiple executions of Edgecam on a single PC will use multiple licenses from the network server.

2. To use the Advanced Customisation and the ActiveX Server options, the user must have a current maintenance contract.

New PCI and PDI commands

The following new commands have been introduced:

PCI Commands CommitOperationEx - Normally, all of the child toolpaths for each operation are deleted and then

recreated. However, if an operation always has the same child toolpaths, regeneration speed can be improved by regenerating those child toolpaths as if they were top level toolpaths.

InitCommandMasked - This command enables PCIs to playback Masked commands correctly.

Automatic regeneration of the sequence can be controlled by calling command 50, 201 and setting modifier 190 to <Yes> or <No>.

EndCommand - Normally, the interface automatically informs the Undo system when a command has finished, but there are circumstances where this does not happen. This command helps the interface to inform the Undo system when a command has finished.

PDI Commands End_PAMS_Command – The PDI version of the PCI EndCommand. Normally, the interface automatically

informs the Undo system when a command has finished, but there are circumstances where this does not happen. This command helps the interface to inform the Undo system when a command has finished.

MC_Get_Next_Toolpath and MC_Get_Prev_Toolpath - These commands make it easier to scan across the toolpaths in the entity database.

Features Enhancements

Manual Turn Features from an Envelope

It is now possible to create Manual Turn Features from an Envelope. This will allow strategies or custom turn cycles to be applied to specific turn profile definitions.

A new Profile option and associated Manual turn by envelope option have been added to the Turn Profile dialog.

Change Feature to a different CPL

When Feature Finding, the features are found, by default, on the system CPLs. However, this is not always the CPL you want to use to machine them.

When manual machining, this is not an issue because you can index to the required CPL prior to machining the feature.

However, when using strategies to generate machining, the system will index to the Feature CPL.

For this release, a new Change CPL option has been added to the shortcut menu displayed when you right-click on the feature in the Features Window. This allows features to be easily moved to a different CPL which has the same Z axis direction.

Note: Only available for Mill and Hole Features.

Allow CPLs to be associated with Solids and transform with them and

their features

An Associative CPL option has been added to the General tab which, when checked, will allow CPLs to be associated with solids and transform with them and their features.

Note:

1. System CPLs (i.e. Top, Front, Right, Left etc.) cannot be edited and are not associative. Therefore, if there is a possibility that the solid may be transformed, it is advisable to feature find on user defined CPLs.

2. For 2014 R2, the CPLs are not associative on reload solid and will, therefore, not move when reloading a solid that has shrunk or grown. In this case, following a reload, you would be expected to edit the CPL origin and define the new position.

Create CPL from View

There are times when you need to create a CPL (particularly with 5 axis) so that the tool can access a region or recess. Sometimes, there may not be any suitable geometry to select as the faces or surfaces are free-form. You can now rotate the view as if looking down the tool axis and create a CPL in that view orientation without selecting any geometry.

Rotate a Solid with Features

In previous releases, an 'Associated features cannot be transformed out of CPL' error message would have been displayed when attempting to rotate a solid with features.

It is now possible to rotate a solid which has features on it, allowing features to be rotated onto a different plane.

When solid rotation causes a feature to move onto a new plane, a new CPL is created on that plane with a .# appended; the original CPL remains unchanged.

Rendered Image on Threads within Edgecam

To improve the user experience, rendered threads (internal and external) have now been implemented within Edgecam.

This will allow users to quickly and accurately indicate where on the solid model there are threads and identify where they are located.

Note: This feature is currently unavailable to users with AMD graphics cards.

Workflow Enhancements

Themes

It is now possible to have Multiple Workflow Strategy Sets and easily switch between them. Separate strategy sets may be required to meet specific manufacturing needs.

Themes can be found in the Documents\Planit\2014.20\Edgecam\Themes folder.

For this release, a Default Theme is installed which includes a new set of strategies.

To switch to a different Theme, go to the Workflow Settings dialog and select a Theme from the Themes list.

New Default Strategies

For this release, we have developed a new set of sample default strategies which supersede the strategies shipped with 2014R1.

The new strategies have been structured to make them easier to maintain and understand.

The new options give greater control over machining preferences should you not wish to use the default settings.

The options dialog is accessible in Workflow under the Plan button in Machining. This dialog can be customised

by editing StrategyOptions.xml; see the 'Modifying the Default Options' Workflow help topic for more information.

Machine Feature

The Feature Machining button now has the ability to select an alternative Theme. Select the Theme folder from the list for which you want the strategies to be applied.

Review Toolkit - Invalid Tool Positions

Previously, tool positions greater than 998 were considered invalid. However, since some customers used tool positions greater than 998, the tool position is now considered to be invalid only when it is blank or zero.

Review Toolkit - Tools that are not Associative

If tools used in the sequence are not associative, a warning that changes made to such tools will not be passed back to the sequence will be displayed. You can edit the toolchange instruction in the sequence of a non-associative tool to make it associative.

Customising the Workflow Ribbon Bar

Three areas of the Workflow Ribbon Toolbar can be customised:

Quick Access Toolbar The Quick Access Toolbar section can be used to add or remove commands from the Quick Access area.

Ribbon Customisation The Ribbon Customisation section can be used to move, add and remove commands on the Ribbon Bar.

Tools The Tools section can be used to add PCI, PDI EXE, BAT, CMD etc to the Custom area of the Ribbon Bar.

The appearance of Individual buttons on the Workflow Ribbon Toolbar can be customised by right-clicking the button and clicking Edit Button Appearance.

Intellisnap Hot Key (S key)

When Intellisnap is enabled, it loops through the database as the mouse moves over the geometry to highlight items under the mouse. If you then try to rotate or pan the model, the system has to wait until the current loop has completed leading to a slight pause.

For this release, we have introduced a Hot Key for Intellisnap (S key) which means that, rather than Intellisnap being active continuously, you can hold down the S key when it is needed.

IntelliSnap Hot Key (F key)

When trying to pick cylinder and cone centres on complex parts, the Intellisnap centre can disappear as you move from the face and cross multiple faces to get to the centre. To overcome this issue, we have introduced the F Key. When pressed, the snap points are frozen on the screen and the mouse can be moved without them disappearing.

Area Centre

When selecting a face, the Intellisnap points now include the centre of area.

Interface Enhancements

Improved CPL View Creation and Manipulation

For this release, we have introduced a dynamic method of creating CPLs on components. This makes CPL creation easier and quicker as you simply click and drag the CPL marker to the position on the component where you want it, release and the CPL is made.

The CPLs constructed by this method can be manipulated, edited and deleted using the conventional CPL tools giving the user full control.

Note: Dragging from the CPL marker is only available in the Workflow interface and not the traditional interface.

Automatic Regeneration of the Sequence

This release introduces a button on the Sequence Browser controlling the Automatic Regeneration mode.

Previously, Automatic Regeneration could only be toggled by selecting the Auto Regenerate option from the Shortcut Menu in the Sequence Window.

An instruction is (nearly) always regenerated when you edit the instruction. With Automatic Regeneration enabled, all the subsequent instructions in the sequence are also updated. (This is because some instructions are dependent on others; a Rest Rough cycle is dependent on a Roughing cycle, for example.)

When editing multiple instructions, it can save time to disable this feature until all edits are completed.

Grid Display and 2D Snap

For this release, we have made some changes to the Grid and 2D Snap display to improve usage:

The grid can now be controlled from the View Properties button.

The grid, in Workflow, is now dynamic and always fits the window when you zoom in or out. The density of the grid changes as you zoom.

When 2D Snap is on, the CPL Marker will change; the Z Axis will be removed and a transparent plane will be drawn to indicate that 2D Snap is active.

Part Modeler Enhancements

2D to 3D Modelling Procedure

The 2D to 3D Modelling Procedure has been re-introduced into Part Modeler. It is now possible to create 3D solid models from 2D geometry (DXF, DWG, etc.) within Part Modeler.

This will:

Allow a solid model to be developed much quicker than modelling.

Reduce translation errors when converting from 2D to 3D.

Improve visualisation of a part when it is in a 3D (solid model) format.

Produce a solid model that can be manipulated by intelligent solids based manufacturing within Edgecam.

Note: To import DWG-DXF files without 2D-3D, select the Use superseded import without 2D-3D option on the System options > Translation dialog.

Simulator Enhancements

Simplify STL Holders

A new Simplify STL Holders option has been added to the Display tab.

In previous releases, STL Healing and Simplification which was introduced to check and fix self-intersection and noise-reduction, for example, could slow the process.

You can now avoid doing this simplification by unchecking the Spin Driven Milling Holders and Simplify STL Holders Display options.

Simulator Turning Index Turret Improvement

When simulating sequences in which the machine has index turret configurations, Simulator now starts from where it last finished rather that returning to the start each time. This will also speed up the Update Stock process.

ToolStore Enhancements

Formed Tool Types for Mill and Hole

Previously, Form tools and other special tools were created as standard Drills or Endmills and typically identified by name. This caused problems when selecting tools using strategies because non-standard tools could be selected if other search criteria were met.

Therefore, new Formed Mill and Formed Hole Tool Types have now been added to the General tab which can be used for non-standard Mill and Hole tools. The dialog for these new tool types is the same as for Drill and Endmill; no additional modifiers have been added.

You will see the new tool types in ToolStore and on the Edgecam tool change dialog.

Licensing

Network Licensing - User Specific Licensing

The new User Specific Configuration option on the Tools menu of the CLS License Manager enables you to specify either a user specific license configuration i.e. every user who logs on to the PC runs 'Configure Network Licenses', or to set up a configuration that can be used by all users who log on to the PC. This is particularly useful in schools and colleges as it will enable any student to log on to any PC and run Edgecam immediately without having to configure licenses.

For users who have previously used network licensing (pre-2014 R2 releases), this option is checked, by default, to maintain the previous (user specific) behaviour.

How it works!

When the User Specific Configuration option is unchecked, the license configuration specified in Configure Network Licenses is written to an xml file in the folder that licensing information is stored in. When other users log in on the PC they will automatically adopt the settings listed in the file if the User Specific Configuration option is unchecked. For example, if the license configuration is set to Edgecam Standard Milling, all users who log on to that PC will have their licenses set the same without having to use 'Configure Network Licenses'. If a user wants to select different licenses, they just need to check the User Specific Configuration option and use 'Configure Network Licenses' to select the different licenses that will be used when they log in.

Please refer to the Advanced Network Licensing Options section of the CLS help file for further details.

New Features in Version 2014 R1

Below is an overview of new features and enhancements in the last release.

For a summary of new features in previous releases, please visit the History section of the Edgecam website.

Manufacture Enhancements

New Chamfering Cycle

A new chamfering cycle has been developed to help the user to machine chamfers and debur. It supports 2D and 3D geometry.

The cycle can machine:

Wireframe.

Edge Loop features.

Pocket and Boss features.

Direct solid edges (no need to create edge loop features).

The cycle can read the Pocket and Boss chamfer parameters when the option to Use Solid is checked. Also, Contact Point (0 to 100) allows the user to define which bit of the tool will be touching the model.

Support for 3D Normal Offset Output

A new 3D Normal Offset Output option has been added to the Control tab of the Parallel Lace, Profiling, Constant Cusp Finishing, Rest Finishing, Pencil Mill, Project Toolpath, Project Flow Curves, Project Boundary Collapse and Project Circular Pattern cycles.

When selected, this option will allow the controller to compensate for tool wear (reducing the programmed radius) by moving the tool along the vector by the wear value specified in the controller offset.

Only available in Milling.

Dynamic Offset

A new Dynamic option has been added to the Datum Type field of the Machining Sequence dialog Datum Shift dialog, Index Operation dialog, Merging Sequences dialog and Index dialog - General tab.

When the part is rotated, the datum rotates with the part. The co-ordinates will be relative to this new datum position. The active CPL will still be in the same place as it is for Absolute. The image depicts XYZ zero point for NC output.

High Feed Link Option on Grooving Cycles

New Finish Grooving

A new Link Type setting has been added to the Lead/Link options allowing you to convert Rapid moves to High Feed. This is particularly useful when grooving at an angle.

When High Feed is selected, the link moves are done at the Maximum Feedrate, as specified on the 'Machine Parameters Dialog - Turret tab' of the machine in Code Wizard. This provides a safer linkage method in tight situations such as in a bore. Use this linkage method in preference to Rapid links to avoid potential unresolved moves (dog legging).

Page 44: What’s New inmoodle.joinville.ifsc.edu.br/.../Help/whatsnew.pdfWhat’s New in Edgecam 2014 R2 SU2 This document highlights new product features and enhancements in Edgecam 2014

High Feed Link Option on Grooving Cycles

New Finish Grooving

A new High Feed rate Link Move option has been added to the Link Type settings on the Advanced tab.

When High Feed is selected, the link moves are done at the Maximum Feedrate, as specified on the 'Machine Parameters Dialog - Turret tab' of the machine in Code Wizard.

Roughing Cycle - Clearance

The Roughing cycle has been changed to consider the available Fixtures in the part when defining the safe Z value - Clearance. When machining solids and fixtures, the cycle will compare the fixture heights and apply the defined value on top of the highest one.

This means that the safer clearance will always be used, avoiding rapid moves over the fixture.

New Option to Display Parametric Shank Graphics

A Visible check box is now available for tool shank definition in Edgecam Toolchange and ToolStore.

In the case of integrated tool holder and shank graphic, it is common to include a combined holder and shank graphic in the tool definition.

Previously, a parametric shank would be displayed together with the user defined holder/shank graphic; the user would need to set the parametric shank values to zero in order to hide the graphic.

You can now enter the actual shank values and use the check box to define whether the parametric shank is displayed.

The Visible check box is on, by default, for all existing tools.

Plugins available in Generate CNC Code

The PDI tab on the Generate CNC Code dialog now lists available Plugins as well as PDI. They can be executed before, after or during the creation of the NC file.

CRC Cancel on Rapid Lift Out

It is now possible to output a CRC Cancel on the retract move of a mill profiling cycle. In Code Wizard, the Allow G40 on Retract Move option must be checked on the Machine Parameters tab and, in Code Generator, the CRCGCODE token must be present in the Rapid Code Constructor.

If no lead out is specified, the G40 will be activated on the retract move at the end of the cycle.

If no token is included in the Rapid Code Constructor, the G40 will appear on the next feed move - the automatically generated perpendicular for Geometry Compensation.

Fixture Database - Chucks

Chucks can now be created in the Fixture Manager and they are split into Chuck with Jaws and Chuck Collet.

They are designed to work on Lathe Post Processors and 3 axis milling machines (no multiplane). They are created in the database, inserted using the Fixture Database button in the Workflow Ribbon and, when the user creates the sequence, the Fixture Chuck replaces the Code Generator defined Chuck.

Chucks can be created in the database and use the same parameters as Code Wizard. See the Code Wizard help for details.

The parametric Chuck body and jaw can be replaced with a solid model:

Load the solid model into Edgecam in the Turn environment and ensure that the Chuck face and Jaw face are at Z0.

Use File > Save MEG file to save chuck and jaw solids as separate files.

Note: You need separate models and database entries for non-reverse and reverse jaw cases.

When defining solid chucks you still need to enter the parametric values for the chuck and jaws as these are needed for positioning purposes.

Jaw non-reverse

Chuck Fixture Setup

Auto Positioning for Chucks

Upon selecting a chuck you can specify the gripping face i.e Internal, step1, step2 etc . The gripping face is positioned to the gripping diameter and the part stickout is automatically adjusted so that the back face of the stock butts up to the gripping face ledge. This is for both reversed and non-reversed jaws.

Auto Alignment of C-axis Feature

When turned parts with C-axis features are loaded, Workflow will now attempt to align the part about the C-axis feature.

Interface Enhancements

Launcher and Welcome Screen Improvements

Launcher

The Edgecam Launcher has several enhancements including:

Right-clicking an entry in the Recently Used Files list allows you to delete the entry and copy the file name or the full path to clipboard.

Ability to scroll in the Recently Used Files list by clicking and holding the mouse scroll wheel.

Resizing when using a low-resolution monitor. Note: Edgecam Minimum Requirement is still 17" Colour monitor (1280 x 1024 screen resolution).

Ability to pin URL and Folders to the Tools menu.

Code Generator removed from the tools section.

Rendering Performance Increase

Performance

We have improved the performance of the rendering engine giving 3 to 4 times increase in the frames per second. Large and complex parts feel much lighter and smoother when panning and rotating.

Intellisnap

When the model was rotated or panned, the Intellisnap was still active and affected the speed. We automatically turn off Intellisnap when a mouse key is held down which improves performance.

Mask Editor User Interface

To help improve the ease of use in creating Masks, an interactive editor has been introduced. The mask can also be added to the Workflow Ribbon Bar.

New CPL Marker

We have now introduced a newly designed CPL marker within Edgecam.

The new design maintains the standard colours for axes, introduces colour coded rotation bars and, most importantly, each axis is labelled (X, Y and Z).

Editable Ribbon Bar

The Ribbon Bar can now be edited using the Mask editor:

Masked commands can be added to the Custom area of the Ribbon Bar.

The Quick Access Toolbar section can be used to add or remove commands from the Quick Access area.

The User Commands section can be used to move, add and remove commands on the Ribbon Bar.

The Tools section can be used to add PCI, PDI EXE, BAT, CMD etc to the Custom area of the Ribbon Bar.

Verify Entities - Angle Information on Faces

The Verify command has been updated to report the Normal, Inclination and Rotation of a Face relative to the current CPL. This information can been useful to verify the angle of a wall or a hole.

Cycles - Reset All Picks

When editing cycles, there are cases where it makes sense to clear all the picking information in one click and then reselect as if it is a new cycle.

For example:

Copy a cycle and apply it to different set of geometry/features.

Reload a model where the Face IDs are different and require reselection.

Code Wizard Enhancements

Dynamic Offset

A new Dynamic Offset option has been added to the Machine Parameters Tab.

When checked, the Datum Type on the Index Operation dialog and the General tab of the Machining Sequence dialog, will include a Dynamic option.

Support for a Third and Fourth Tool Setting position

In 2013 R2, for Keyed Index Turrets, support was added for one additional tool setting position. We have now extended this to 4 possible set positions.

The setting positions are defined in the Code Wizard on the turret page. The required setting position can be selected in the ToolStore and Edgecam Toolchange Mounting tab.

CRC Cancel on Rapid Lift Out

It is now possible to output a CRC Cancel on the retract move of a Mill Profiling cycle. The Allow G40 on Retract Move option must be checked on the Machine Parameters tab and the CRCGCODE token must be present in the Rapid Code Constructor.

If no lead out is specified, the G40 will be activated on the retract move at the end of the cycle.

If no token is included in the Rapid Code Constructor, the G40 will appear on the next feed move - the automatically generated perpendicular for Geometry Compensation.

Template IndexG200 upgrade

The adaptive-indexg200 template has started to receive maintenance in order to bring it in line with all the other templates.

In 2014 R1, we have started a major overhaul of this template to improve its maintainability as well as the NC output. After a CGD upgrade, a comparison of the output will probably resemble the image opposite.

Existing CGDs will probably require post-update action from the user:

CY Hole cycles will require coordinate tokens to be replaced with those used elsewhere in this template.

Circular Interpolation may require use of the combined feed/speed mode token. In some cases, the CLW/CCLW code constructors are interchanged without detriment to the NC.

The thread turn code constructor is now used. This may require formatting with INDEXG200 movement tokens.

The longhand thread G code is also now used and should be set to G1.

Changes may be needed to CY CRC coding.

Our testing shows improvements in a number of areas. We believe that the R11 face angle parameter is corrected in some circumstances and that G200 mode setting is more reliable. CY hole cycles are more in line with G200 machine modes and there is a general improvement in output modality due to the changed use of tokens and their underlying variables. It is essential that NC output be carefully checked by the user before use, especially if any customisation has been added to the CGD. In the event of any problems being found, please log the details with support and revert to the CGD as it was before update. Your feedback on any areas where improvement is needed would be appreciated.

Editing Area Enhancements

Enhancements have been made to the editing area of the Code Constructors:

The selection no longer goes wrong when the mouse goes out of the editing area of the Code Constructor.

Ctrl+Shift+End/Home have been implemented. Ctrl+A now selects the whole Code Constructor content.

TAB now inserts spaces. Ctrl+TAB gives access to the OK/Cancel/Help buttons.

The Search/Replace function can be accessed by Ctrl+F and/or Ctrl+H.

Templates

Enhancements have been made to the editing area of the Code Constructors:

The following Template changes have been implemented:

1. We have added a new Code Constructor and NC Style/ Hole Cycles option with a drop-down list named Back Bore / Face Cycle Points where the default is Use Common:

Don't Use will call the cycle definition Code Constructor for each point.

Use Common will call the normal cycle points for each point (current behaviour).

Use Dedicated will call the new Back Bore / Face Cycle Points.

2. The [WORKREGISTER] token has its value fixed for the TNC template. [WORKGCODE2] has been created for other templates and is available at Set Work Datums. [WORKGCODE2] will contain the override while [WORKGCODE] will not have the override. The user should use the appropriate one, according to the machine/process requirements.

3. Milling templates have received a new parameter to configure the precision of rotary movements. The Minimum angular movement parameter is on the NC File General tab of NC-Style area. Rotary output will, from now on, use that value for rounding purposes. This should eliminate problems where angular precision was incompatible with linear precision.

4. We have implemented support for smooth code output on the TNC through an Exact Stop Code Constructor. There is not a point on the setvar for single shot or modal since M90 works only in the line in which it is programmed. If users want it for a different purpose, they still have the Code Constructor to set it On/Off. The token is included on Linear, Circular and Helical code constructors.

5. Rotary Axis tokens are now present on the Set Work Datums Code Constructor.

Migration Wizard Enhancements

DFN Masks and User Images

Checking the Config Files box on the Choose Copy Options dialog of the Migration Wizard will now copy across additional User files:

DFN files from the Language folder.

.XML files from the Language\Masks folder.

All files in the Illustrate folder

Licensing

Revocation of network licenses over the Internet

Edgecam 2014 R1 introduces the ability to revoke network licenses in one simple operation using the CLS License Manager. Please note the following requirements:

Requirements:

Sentinel RMS License Manager Version 8.5.1 or higher is installed on the server PC (version 8.5.3 is available on your product DVD).

CLS 2014 or above is installed on the Server PC (Edgecam does not need to be installed).

The Server PC has an Internet connection.

The features of this new method are:

It will revoke all of the licenses for the selected servercode automatically.

If licenses for multiple Vero products are installed on the server under different servercodes, only the licenses for the selected servercode will be revoked.

Licenses cannot be revoked if any of them are in use and a warning is issued about this.

This method can only be used via CLS License Manager on the Server PC. For details on how to use the new procedure, please refer to network_RevokeLicense.pdf which is on the DVD and installed with CLS.

New 'Shop Floor Solids' module license for Shop Floor Editor

A new 'Shop Floor Solids' module license has been introduced to provide the ability to load Edgecam part files containing CATIA V5 and Creo Parametric solids bodies into Shop Floor Editor. Please contact your local reseller for further details.

Upgrade to Sentinel RMS Version 8.5.3

Your Edgecam 2014 R1 DVD includes the latest release of the Sentinel RMS Network License Server and associated utilities. It is recommended that when you receive your next network license file, you upgrade to the latest Sentinel RMS License Server which can be found in the \Sentinel RMS Licensing\License Manager Installation folder on the DVD.

Saving parts when connection to a network license server is lost

In previous releases of Edgecam, if the connection to the network license server was lost due to the server machine going down, for example, a message was displayed to alert the user but it was not possible to save any work done since the last save and Edgecam was left in an unresponsive state.

In Edgecam 2014 R1, when the connection to the license server is lost it displays more meaningful messages and provides the opportunity to save any work done since the last save before closing. When Edgecam is started again and the license server is still down, grace licensing will be used and, if it is back up, the network licenses will be used.

Single CLS works with the R1 and R2 releases

In previous releases, we have installed a different version of CLS for both the R1 and R2 releases. From the release of Edgecam 2014 R1, we will now just update the R1 version of CLS when the Edgecam R2 release is installed. For Edgecam 2014 R1, the tooltip for CLS in the notification area (bottom right hand corner of the screen) is CLS 2014:

This change means that when Edgecam 2014 R2 is released, we will update CLS 2014 so there is only one 2014 CLS installation that will work with both the R1 and R2 releases.

then please explain and add it to the case.

40668 Profiling CRC - backoffset path ignores rounded corner creating sharp

toolpath (gouge)

Fixed.

41253 Profiling CRC - comp on applied at the end of lead in (too late - lead angle

dependent) - gouges

Fixed.

41811 Part Modeler - Add Collinear Constraint When constraining points then use Construction Lines, Fix Constraint

and Coincidence Constraint. Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for

development to complete this work unless you can provide an

example where the existing tools are limited in being able to produce

the outcome required. If this is so then please explain and add it to the

case.42246 Part Modeler - Ability to perform an Helical Array Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for development to complete

this work.44270 Investigate File Size - loading/saving time on attached parts Fixed.44431 Part Modeler - Attached DXF only can be extruded after opening in Edgecam

and resaving

Using the new 2D to 3D functionality (2D to 3D trace) solves this issue.

Task closed.44642 Sequence Browser - After regeneration, the sequence window should not

change (move to the bottom)

The edited instruction stays selected and visible in the browser

following regeneration45822 Part Modeler - Graphic problems with Basic Themes (Win 7) Fixed in a previous release.46609 Part Modeler - to recreate/import feature tree from third party CAD solid

models

In recent releases of Part Modeler feature recognition work has been

completed, in 2014 R2 it is possible to feature find Holes and Fillets on

3rd party models. We plan to extend the type of features that can be

detected on 3rd party models in future releases.

47386 Part Modeler - Allow multiples datum as reference in a single Geometric

Tolerance box

Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for development to complete

this work. By design geometric tolerancing boxes are referenced

separately, should the user need to reference multiple datums to a

geometric feature then they must apply multiple arrows (which can be

turned off) and associated boxes, this achieves the same result.

47387 Part Modeler - Add Multi View function like Radan This is already possible within Part Modeler. Window-Viewports-Add

will allow multiple model view windows to be visible on screen, modify

the model in one window (view) and all other views will automatically

be updated.48973 Part Modeler - Drawing - ability to hide/show constraints and dimensions to

print

This is already possible within Part Modeler.

49456 Part Modeler - ability to set colour per entity, not only to the whole type This is not possible or advisable. The entity colour does more than just

display the entity, it also shows state information for

enable/active/highlight etc. Allowing a per-entity colour scheme

would make this very confusing to use and making sharing files very

difficult. Based on these reasons this request has been rejected.

49549 Print - "Color" is greyed out when using PDF creators as printer Fixed, Colour PDF files can be generated.51381 Part Modeler - Snap from solid edges are not visible when shading is on Fixed in a previous release.

53418 Part Modeler - Granite model has missing faces. Fixed.54058 Part Modeler - ability to "clean" part deleting double entities Introduction of 2D to 3D functionality (profile tracing ability) in 2014

R2 solves the issue of multiple entities within the DXF file.

54236 5 Axis - excessive memory usage (subsequent crash and/or error) Fixed.54386 Part Modeler - Ability to have Vector fonts on the text command Part Modeler creates solids but Edgecam creates toolpaths. You can't

extrude a single-line vector into a solid - it needs to be a closed profile

to create the 3D geometry so this is not possible (or sensible) to do in

Part modeler.54702 Edgecam crashes or display an empty screen when trying to open (large) part Fixed in 2014 R2.

56573 Edit Sequence - Changing Home/Toolchange positions does not auto-

regenerate all instructions (Move to Toolchange and older cycles) - needs

manual regen

Fixed.

Edgecam 2014 R2 SU1 Maintenance Database Report

ID Title Release Notes56682 Index - Nutated Head-head can only rotate the other way, but Edgecam does

not respect the limits

Fixed. Post from case 524787 has the nutated axis incorrectly

configured, where the vectors are reversed; these should be (0,1,1),

with limits (0,+180).56820 Part Modeler - Import DWG/DXF - Possibility to import geometries as one

element

If a DXF/DWG file has been written out with multiple elements

constructing a circle then Part Modeler will import the multiple

elements of the circle, this is correct. Representing the elements as

one risks losing important information. The new 2D to 3D functionality

(tracing feature - loops) will select a closed profile with ease. Task

rejected.56829 Part Modeler - Possibility create geometry with circular/linear pattern Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for development to complete

this work as Part Modeler has 2D and 3D arrays that are sufficient.

58037 Part Modeler - Allow to put dimensions between the arrows of an angle Fixed in 2014 R2.

58157 Memory in use by Edgecam.exe keeps increasing during sequence creation

until crash

Fixed.

59267 Roughing - Stays away from wall when machining Open Mill Feature due to

In Process Stock

Fixed.

59513 New Dialogs - Highlight cycle Advanced Buttons that have values Move the mouse cursor over the Advanced Button title and a tooltip

will appear that will display all active modifiers within the advance

dialog. If the advance button contains no active modifiers then these

will not be displayed within the tooltip. Work completed in 2014 R2

SU1.59943 Hole cycle - Alternate solution may not work unless another tool is called Fixed.

60171 Part Modeler - Ability to export a full sheet dwg Identified as a specific problem with the customer drawing sheet

(corrupt template). Drawing sheets can be exported as DXF/DWG files

from Part Modeler.60511 Sequence Browser -Create Custom/User Groups behaves strange and can

hang Edgecam

Groups can be formed and crash no longer occurs. Note that there are

limitations when combining operations and groups.60879 Sequence Browser - after custom/user group new instructions/groups

cannot be seen

Fixed.

61166 Old Profile - Picking doesn't have detailed coord input anymore Not possible to implement61403 Part Modeler - Ability to set an importing tolerance for DWG/DXF files Resolved by the implementation of the new 2D to 3D functionality

within 2014 R2.61742 Single Solid Component support for Granite models Implemented61899 Workflow - Fixture changes location on merged sequence from inserted

component

The original vice and position in the 'main' sequence will be kept.

62027 Sequence Browser - Moving Custom/User group makes it invisible Fixed.62029 Sequence Browser - Custom/User group an operation hangs Edgecam Fixed.

62220 Plugins doesn't read files from NETWORK location Network locations work for plugins. Future support of Themes will

provide other ways to specify plugin locations.62270 ToolStore - Bore tool doesn't stay on radial orientation (mounting tab) Fixed.

62290 Instruction Sequence - Regen is slower on sequence with several instructions Fix implemented for 2014R2 SU1

62566 Part Modeler - Drawing - Ability to configure dimension properties of

inactive views

Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for development to complete

this work. By design views are dimensioned separately, should the

user need to view the dimensions on other views, then selecting the

Sheet in the drawing tree will display all the drawing (ungrey all the

drawing views).62791 Feature Find Reload - Improve matching of existing holes - Avoid Best Match Improved

62811 Internal Simulation - Tool does not rotate with index move (wrongly

orientated)(MEG Holder)

Fixed.

62832 Chamfering Cycle - Ability to select Open Pocket, Open Mill and Rotary

Features to be machined

Implemented.

63624 Roughing - Fails to machine the mouth of a necked open pocket Fixed.64081 Print - Line types are not correctly printed in arc shapes Fixed. Arc and line styles are now represented correctly in print

preview and on the print output.64150 Update stock generates a 4 axis command and makes editing difficult Single Turret Update Stock has been implemented. Please refer to

help for details.64152 Update stock generates sync codes when not needed Generate Sync option has been added to Multiple Turret Update

Stock. When unchecked, it will no longer act as a synchronise

command (Simulator and NC).64166 ToolStore and Edgecam toolchange - When using index turret mating points

we need to preserve the original tool assembly

The requested behaviour can now be achieved with full associativity

preference unchecked / associative toolchange checked. The mount

modifiers are now greyed to maintain the integrity of the tool

assembly - but user can still select the required mount point.

ID Title Release Notes64168 Edgecam toolchange - when using full tool associativity Edgecam does not

allow the index turret mount point to be set on the toolchange where as its

needs to

The requested behaviour can now be achieved with full associativity

preference unchecked / associative toolchange checked. The mount

modifiers are now greyed to maintain the integrity of the tool

assembly - but user can still select the required mount point.

64172 ToolStore - make red set point marker always visible even when it is behind a

tooling graphic - is needed for multistage mill and hole tools

Fixed.

64301 Part Modeler - Ability to merge multiple solid with a single command This is already possible in Part Modeler, using the Boolean Union

procedure. To make one solid from many solids select a solid as the

Target and then select each remaining solid to be included as the

Tools. Once Ok has been selected the separate models will become

one model and the Boolean procedure will be placed in the model

tree.64514 Rapid Result - MEG graphic not changed when tool changes, giving wrong

result

The solid tool graphics are unsuitable for Rapid Result a parametric

representation of the tool is now used In 2015R1 a message to this

effect will be displayed.64767 Index direction is wrong on nutated machine (from W34958) Fixed.65018 Code Wizard - changes on format table on CGX mode corrupt format table Fixed in SU1.

65036 New workflow strategies - Implement is tool the same (strategy rollback) for

hole tool selection65070 Feature Properties - CPL attribute keeps the original CPL name from Inserted

Component (Name Prefix)

<The CPL feature attribute now includes the prefix text as entered on

Insert Component so it now matches with the Feature Browser CPL

setting.PDI.Feedback("&COMMANDSTATUS=" +

pci.GetPCIVariable("&COMMANDSTATUS"))shows 1, 2, 3 for create, regen and edit.

65267 Workflow Strategies - Investigate Counterboring preferring Roughing cycle

over Plunge Tool

If a tool is present to the size of the counterbore, we will plunge drill it.

If not, a smaller tool will be picked to interpolate rough it. It works as

designed.65313 Workflow Strategies - No 3D stock available for Strategy Manager tool filter

in attached part

Resolved.

65636 Indexing / Alternate Solution - alternate solution needs to choose other

direction if going to overtravel

Fixed.

65652 Part Modeler - Save and restore display mode when closing and re-opening

the application

Enhancement rejected, uneconomical for development to complete

this work with the current configuration of Part Modeler, this is mainly

because Part Modeler has a MDI (Multiple document interface),

whereas Alphacam has a SDI (Single document interface).

65657 Sequence is regenerated after a M-Function Edit Fixed.65663 Sequence is regenerated after Hole cycle edit Fixed.65668 5 Axis - Adding a CSV to the Toolchange dialog causes the cycle to fail (or add

"Flute Length" where it is already present)

Fixed.

65714 Extension of the XML output to cover additional data from featurelib parts

inside SolidWorks

Customer has been supplied with information/documentation.

65756 Hole features from cosmetic threaded faces Should be implemented.65775 Simulator part is taking longer to start up. Start-up times are now practically the same for 2013R2 and 2014R2

SU1.65969 Sequence browser - Edit multiple instructions misses some of them Fixed.65999 Mask saving command crashes Edgecam Fixed.66035 File takes a very long time to load. Fixed.66040 Simulator - Solid model (part) is brought up corrupted from Edgecam Problem is not present in 2014R2 SU1.66056 EWS solid not transferred to Workflow when using a just a Production

license (i.e. with no Solid Machinist).

Fixed. EWS Solids are now transferred to Workflow correctly.

66061 MPM Nutated - very large non-existent moves colliding in simulator Fixed.66089 Help File - "This page can’t be displayed" when opening Help inside Five Axis

cycle

Fixed.

66143 Example Operation JS - lack of FreeCommand causes next call to fail Fixed.66292 Instruction Sequence -Sequence Insert of PCI Run Command makes

instructions disappear and mess up the sequence

Fixed.

65217 PDI – include &COMMANDSTATUS support for differentiating create, edit

and regenerate
