Whether you are starting university study for the first time, or picking

up where you left off, we’ve got you covered. Follow these chapters and you

will be set to ace the Semester.

What to expect when you’re expecting…

to study!

Prepare your study spaceYour study space should contain all of the things

you need to study: pens, highlighters, notebooks, post-it notes, laptop/computer etc. You can personalise it to make it your own. Having things that remind you of why you are studying are great motivators and make great study space additions. These can include a picture of your loved ones, your dream career or a quote that always seems to lift your mood.

Fill in your USQ CalendarPut your calendar where you can see it. This will

allow you to note upcoming due dates, weekends you will and won’t have time to study and all the in-between events like weddings, birthdays and holidays.

Get your booksTextbooks can be quite expensive, but they are

invaluable resources and are often required to pass a course. You could try sourcing them second-hand through our StudyTexts.com.au website to save yourself some money. Get in early so you can avoid the waiting list and stay ahead of the game.

If you’re waiting, get in touch with the USQ Library. They have a copy of every textbook required.

All aboard! It’s time to call on your support baseEveryone who has an impact on your studies

should be considered so that you have a fully-equipped support network. Make sure they know about your time commitments so they can motivate you and understand if you don’t have as much spare time during the semester (you can make the most of your holiday time with them – cue Copacabana music).

Do not disturb signTypically, teenagers

blaring their music are known for using these signs, but in this case, it will be your way to access some undisturbed study time… winning! Having one hour to absorb a chapter will be a lot more productive than spending three hours on the couch… with your family… and the TV… and your textbook in hand.

Check out our printable study themed ‘Do not disturb’ signs online at slideshare.net/usqedu

Your success weapon = your timetableMake sure your timetable is as detailed as

possible, so you can organise realistic study times that won’t be substituted for anything else. If you know Friday night is a good time to wind down, it’s best not to schedule in a 4-hour block of study. As cliché as it sounds, finding a balance between hobbies, studying, family, friends and anything else that is important to you is essential.

and/or coffee

Snacks! Snacks make studying fun and keep your mind

active. Book a study date with your friends, bring some study snacks and watch as your invites to other sessions increase.
