SurveyOur questions Our results

This is a very open question and we asked this in order to gain an overall understanding of the percentage of people that did actually enjoy our music video. Taking into account

that it is not just Kate Nash fans who will be completing the survey, we were very pleased with the results of this question. From this we have learnt that nearly 82% of

the people that answered our survey did enjoy our video and therefore we feel we have made a successful video.

Our main goal for this project was to create a video that successfully portrayed Kate Nash’s style in order to produce a realistic video fitting the Kate Nash conventions in

order to appeal to her target audience. We have learnt from this survey that we managed to achieve this as the results of this question show 100% of the people who

completed our audience survey believed our video matched Kate Nash’s style.

We have attempted to use many codes and conventions of Kate Nash’s existing products in order to create a successful video to appeal to the audience. From this result we have learnt that our use of actor, location and costumes were the most successful parts of our music video. This was great to learn in our audience feedback as we had a set back on our first day of filming when our original actor pulled out of the production. However we worked as a team to try and find someone with a Kate Nash look and when filming we knew our new actor would be very cooperative with our ideas and therefore we still managed to carry out everything we planned. Our results imply that through the actor and the costumes she was wearing, we achieved the portrayal of the artist that Kate Nash stereotypically is. We also learnt this from our results of question 6 ‘Do you think we used the right actors for the style of the music video’ and 10/11 people answered ‘yes’. The results also imply that the locations were a successful part of our video. One thing we identified through research was the realistic element of Kate Nash’s existing videos and we planned to achieve this through location . Because our audience liked the locations we have learnt that the locations we chose were successful and feel we therefore managed to achieve the realistic feel we planned.

Through audience feedback we did not just want to receive opinions on the good elements of our video but also things that we could learn from and could improve if we had the chance to produce a video again. On the storyboard we loved out first shot idea of following the actors as they walked towards us. When filming however, the footage of these shots were slightly shaky as we had no way of being able to move the camera smoothly at the height at which we needed it. In normal circumstances in which music videos are made there would be equipment that allowed the producers to do this however this was not available to us. I have learnt from this audience feedback that this is something the audience noticed and thought could be improved therefore we could have thought more about how we were actually going to produce this shot. If we had the chance to do this again I would rethink this process in more depth during planning to figure out a way of getting a smooth camera shot or change the idea to something that would look more professional. Other results we found from this question included ‘shorter shots’ would improve our video which is something we did attempt to do however we developed this convention by using a couple of longer shots to emphasis certain parts of the song. From this I have learnt that we possibly should have stuck to using this Kate Nash convention as we know it appeals to her fan base. However when asked in question 7 ‘is the editing similar to that of Kate Nash’ 10/11 people answered ‘yes’.

One main convention of existing Kate Nash videos was the way in which she used props, actions and location to resemble specific parts of her lyrics. We

therefore did a lot of planning in order to fit this convention in our video and our audience feedback shows 10/11 people thought we did this successfully.

Youtube

We also posted our survey onto the information under our video in the hope that the viewers would then go on to answer our survey after watching the video and we have learnt a lot from our results.

We posted our video on YouTube as it is a hugely famous and popular website in which a video of any genre can be watched. With our target audience being teenagers, who stereotypically spend a lot of time on the internet and YouTube in particular we felt this was the perfect place to broadcast our video to get some audience response. On our video post on YouTube we have received 167 views therefore we have learnt that our video has had a lot of interest from the audience. As well as this we have had some positive feedback and received ‘4 likes’ and ‘0 dislikes’ showing that a number of our audience have enjoyed our video.

We also gained some written responses from posting our video on YouTube due to the ‘comment’ option. We received positive comments which again gave us some evidence that our video was successful.

acebookWe also posted our video on Facebook as this is one of the most popular social networking sites associated with our target audience. By posting a video on Facebook it is easy to watch and easy to leave comments meaning our audience may leave some feedback.

We also posted our survey onto the information above our video in the hope that the viewers would then go on to answer our survey after watching the video and we have learnt a lot from our results. We asked politely and informally in order to persuade our young target audience to fill in the survey as it does not seem pressuring or formal.

We received some positive comments which again gave us some insight into the audience’s opinions of our video. From our Facebook comments we learnt that the audience enjoyed our use of actor as she resembled Kate Nash successfully.
