We didn’t quite see the anticipated tight contests predicted last week, but who were the stars from Round 3? 1. Well, there were more stars over at Island Park than you would find on Hollywood Boulevard, but sadly for the home team they were all wearing yellow and black. And none shone brighter than joint 2012 Brian Hennessy WB Medallist Richie O’Grady with six personal goals and a couple of dozen assists. 2. ROUND 4 PREVIEWS MILLICENT V EAST GAMBIER Both clubs have had flat starts to Season 2013, but the Saints have been the bigger disappointment. Sure they lost a few key contributors from last year, but they have picked up some more than handy replacements. Made a bright start against South, but were MIA after half time. East have plenty of young pups in the kennel boasting sound pedigrees, but unfortunately their ranks are thinner than a pollie’s pre election promise. Not sure of the outcome with the injuries to Jesse Fry and Frazer Scanlon, but they would need both fit to have a fighting chance. Millicent by 18 points FROM THE JUNGLE SOUTH V CASTERTON The Ds had a contest on their hands early on against Millicent, but lifted like a mare’s tail after half time to cruise to a 12 goal victory. South has unearthed some genuine new talent, none more so than Jak Ryan in the ruck. And his emerging presence allows the ‘Dustin Fletcheresque’ Jake Dowdy to create havoc cruising the lines. The Catters are licking some very deep wounds inflicted by North last week, and it will be interesting to see how they respond against another well drilled combat unit. Will improve, but will still fall short. South by 23 points WEST V NORTH There was talk around McPark last Saturday that the Roo Boys are back. Sure, they were out of the blocks faster than Usain Bolt, I just sense they could have done a bit more in the finish. North were ruthless against Casterton, with all the big guns eg O’Grady, Blachut, Nulty, Killa, Macca etc etc firing. This will be a good test to see if West are genuine contenders, or are simply running for second prize behind Western Border’s Black Caviar. Netball Preview Article Courtesy Lifestyle Magazine

It’s crunch time for South Gambier this weekend as the Demons search for their first win of the 2013 season.Inconsistency has been the enemy of the Demons at this early stage with glimpses of brilliance interspersed with unforced errors.

After showing better endeavour and execution in the ANZAC Day clash and challenging Millicent in the first half at the weekend, the Demons now have to harness the positives and implement them for the full four quarters against Casterton.

The anticipated return of defender Alyce Mourbey, who was out injured at the weekend, will boost the Demons and give them added flexibility if required. But the Cats will fancy their chances after notching their first win in 18 months a fortnight ago.

The injection of Ellen Brewster at the defensive end has enabled the Cats to create more turnovers, and the likes of Marni Perry and Shanae Guthrie now fall into the more experienced category and have combined well in goals in the opening few rounds. Curbing Brewster’s influence and containing Perry’s output will be need to be the focus of the Demons and the battle between Brewster and Chantelle Weir, who was a key performer for South at the weekend, will be one of those pivotal battles that influence the final result.

Mourbey’s lock down job on Perry will be the other, while Casterton will need to try and shut down Courtney Barry, who is coming off consecutive matches where her pace and quick delivery has been pivotal in the Demons looking a better, if still winless, combination.

Haylee Rhook will no doubt earn that job – using her experience and ability to shadow an opponent all day to try and shut down the space for Barry.

Lisa King was outstanding on ANZAC Day and will relish the challenge of Guthrie under the post – that will be one of the other key battles, with shooting accuracy also a deciding factor.

The other clash this weekend should see Millicent continue its winning start to 2013 when it hosts East Gambier. Millicent will be looking to rectify the slow start to the weekend and want to finetune some of the problem areas at both ends of the court in the first half in the South clash.

And while you always get a solid effort from the young Bulldogs, player unavailability and injury has made for a horror start to the 2013 season.

Malinda Markiewicz has been a shining light in the shooting circle but it is hard to see the Bulldogs finding the matchups to curb the influence of Donna Denton, Lisa Duldig, Hayley Dunn and utility Elise Reilly.

Denton was outstanding at the weekend and given the Bulldogs’ defensive options are all young players, it will be a huge challenge that may even require some rotation between Morgan Amy, Jessie Little, Georgia Green, if available, and even possibly the coach Jacinta Clark.

The Saints had to rotate some of its younger players to find the right combination to eventually get the better of South at the weekend and no doubt, the youngsters will be looking to improve the areas they need to and make the most of any court time that comes their way.

West Gambier will host North Gambier on May 18 to complete the split round.

NETBALL MILESTONE - SASHA ZVIRGZDINS EAST GAMBIER 100 GAMES

Shane Guthrie shooting over Morgan AmyMalinda Markiewicz looking form an option past the defensive pressure from Ellen Brewster

Sasha followed her sister to East Gambier and has played through all the junior grades, stepping out of the junior grades this season and is a member of East's A Reserve team. During her junior career playing 15&U & 17&U grades Sasha filled in for C & B & A Reserve grades on a regular basis, showing her netball enthusiasm and love of the game. Sasha is a tight checking defender and makes her opponent work extremely hard to get the ball. She reads the play well and is a great team player.

Sasha has also been fortunate to be involved in winning grand finals teams throughout her junior grades.

Sasha is a very respected and valuable player at East Gambier Netball and East is very proud to have her as a now senior player. We wish Sasha all the very best on her 100th games and look forward to having her play her next 100 games in our senior grades.

On yet another perfect day for our winter sport we headed over to East to meet the Bulldog girls during the day, which then allowed us to stay and enjoy the A grade footy under lights. On a sour note for the day, Stacey Fox ruptured her achilles in the A Reserve game. We all send out our best wishes to Stacey, and wish her a speedy recovery following surgery this week and look forward to seeing her around the club as she recovers. Today we meet old rivals North and look forward to some more tough games, followed by teas up at the club. A reminder too that Malseed Cup is booked in for 29th June, so organise your horse with Jac behind the bar, get your race frocks on and get ready for a great nights entertainment for the whole family. Good luck to everyone today. Last week: A Gr: 74-49 Lisa and Britt | A res: 61-36 Sophie and Lauren | B Gr: 47-36 Chloe and Sammi | C Gr: 37-45 Elysha And Dee | 17’s: 18-45 Tahlia and Maddy | 15’s: 22-50 Georgia H and Jahmeka | 13’s: 19-39 Hannah and Eliza | 12’s: Great game by all, will update the award winners in next weeks notes

Thanks to East Gambier for putting on a great night under lights, a good atmosphere helped by the great conditions. An even better result made it a great night for us. Straight kicking helped but West was definitely the better side on the night. Jacka kicked five goals and Lewie got 4. Young Crammy kicked 2 important goals and this will give him a confidence boost for the rest of the year. Tanks Back! 2 goals and moving great. Wooks kept up a big in the ruck that helped Brad Wilson get plenty of it. Tom Dolan got amongst the best again and with an attitude like his expect him in there often. The reserves made a big effort to come back only to lose by the smallest of margins. Speedy played an awesome game again with Schultzy a key forward target snagging 5. Gilly was good down back again and Matty Koopman was lively. Pacey Keanu showed why he has played Seniors and will again. Dave Haskins played a big milestone 250 games, a huge credit to him to keep showing up to give his all for the Red and Blue. The exciting U 17 side won again. They are a great group and have clicked together really well. Ha kicked 6 and Langley 3 in a dominating display. Best for these guys were Gibbs, Walmsley-Pace, Bradley-Brown, Stratman, Coombe, Aston. The U 15’s were beaten by a very good side. Get to the ground early to cheer these lads on, the footy they play is a great standard and winning isn’t far away. Best Players Tilley, Lean, Beckman, Lock, Stratman, and Hamilton. We have had a break now so lets all play like it. Missy.

We had a very successful day in Casterton with 6 from 7 wins. Close games were exciting to watch, especially C grade where the result wasn’t determined until the final whistle and A grade had to work hard all day to fight off a persistent Casterton. Award winners: A grade (Amanda-Shadows & Ashlee-Fasta Pasta), A Res (Tanya-Gambier City Pharmacy & Stacy-Active 8), B Grade (Alycia (Café Bel-giorno & Catherine-Shadows), C Grade (Kristen-Sportscene & Tarsh-Active8), 17U (Tammy-Subway & Brianna-OK Pieshop), 15U (Emily-Red Rooster & Amber-Civic) and 12U A (Sharna & Tyne-KFC). No games for the 13’s and 12UB’s due to Casterton not fielding a side. The 12U B’s are playing a different round robin and played East during the week, and then South on the 11th when the rest of us have the week off. Congratulations to 4 of our junior players who are representing Western Border in the squad teams - Lily Bosko in the 13&U, Emily Pietsch in the 15’s and Danika Jolley and Bailey Watson in the 17&U team. We hope you enjoy the experience of representing your league. It’s a great opportunity to make new friendships and learn new skills from the coaches that are putting in the time to support rep netball. Well done also to Di Jones who travelled to Warrnambool to umpire squad teams last weekend.

A very successful trip over the border with four from four a great result. The U15s kicked off proceedings in a hard fought victory the first time they have ever come up against Casterton. Players to get a nod were Brad Close, Will Nankivell, Nic Brown, Nick Steen, Christian Margracia. The U 17s kept the momentum going in a tough game and a good win Best on the day Troy Hatt keeping his name in front of senior selectors eyes, Thomas Flett, Matty Mcinerney, Liam English, Stephen Sochaki. The reserves had a solid win having 22 scoring shots to 8 to run out victors by 39 points with inaccuracy costing some percentage. Best players Brad Stafford who really is putting plenty of pressure on for senior selection, Jack Gibbs, Tobi Coonan, Kyle Kuhn, Jacob Galpin, Tim Young. The seniors had a massive win with momentum increasing as the game went on culminating in a huge last quarter. In a fantastic team effort best were Richie O’Grady, David Nulty rising to the occasion of great mate Chappys 300th, Scotty Flett, Brock Egan, Nick Mciner-ney, Adam Kurzman. After a week’s rest we find ourselves at Malseed Park in a stand-alone game in front of hopefully a bumper crowd coming up against a much improved Roo’s outfit. Hopefully momentum keeps going and we come away with the points on offer. Go Tiges ! Richard Copeland.

Well done again to the B grade, who remain undefeated and on top of the ladder, while kudos too to the 13 and under team that has also secured two wins from three outings. Led by co-coach Cindy Burford and Jaymee O’Neil, the C grade broke through for their first victory of 2013 in style, defeating Millicent by 23 goals – impressive! At half time, the A grade looked world beaters as they went toe to toe with Millicent and led by one at the main break and while the second half ended up disappointing, knowing they can match it with the competition benchmark was a huge positive and has given the team plenty to work towards in notching a breakthrough victory and getting their season rolling. The 17 and under gals deserve a special mention for putting in a great performance to only go down by two goals after coming home with a wet sail in the last quarter. A win can’t be too far away girls if you bring the last quarter intensity to every quarter. Thanks to everyone who helped out last weekend to make sure the first home game went as smoothly as possible, especially Lisa who set everything up and also tidied the clubrooms after the day’s end. There are a handful of players who still owe fees so it would be appreciated if you could please sort that out with Liz Lock asap.

Our first home game this year against Millicent was a great day with all sides coming away with a win. The U15s opened up with a 25 point victory, keeping Millicent scoreless for the first quarter. Goals were shared around with Ryan Broome and Isaac Manterfield leading the way with 2 goals each. The U17s started out differently, with Millicent leading at the first change, South at the half and Millicent again at the last change. A last quarter surge from South saw 7 goals kicked and the boys winning by 40 points. Seven different goal kickers contributed led by Damian Stratton and Tyler Horrigan with 3 each. The Reserves kicked away to an early lead and built that up in each quarter to win the by 9 goals. Conor Mackle led the goal kickers with 3, with Russell Paterson, James Patzel and Ryan Donovan with 2 each. The Seniors came away with the biggest win of 73 points and a whopping 13 goal kickers. Every player contributed to the win and were shown the way by great on-field performances from James Paprotny and Jed Mullen and Simon Berkefeld kicking 3 goals and Brett O’Neil, Brett Exelby, Brad Cordy and Ash Bryan all with 2. We are at home again this week taking on Casterton who are licking their wounds from a hiding from North . Congratulations to Ash Bryant and Luke Foran for their 100th Senior game for South this week. Go Demons!

Beautiful sunshine shone down on Island Park which meant that we faced North in perfect netball conditions. The young B grade side had a great win whilst C grade and 17s had close games with both teams falling short by 2 goals. A grade played positive netball for 3 quarters but fell away in the fourth. A Res, 15s and 12s all worked hard but faced much stronger opposition. A: 42-55, Haylee Rhook – Milly’s, Dergholm Hotel – Marlee Gartlan. A Res: 35-64, Clare Outtram – Ladies Committee, Allie Gorman – Hairwize. B: 55-42, Ebony McIntosh – Bloomers, Tayla Guthrie – Glennys. C: 42-44, Amy Tierney – Casterton Pharmacy, Katie Gill – Herbert’s Bakery. 17U: 31-33, Emily Milich – This ’n ’That, Tayla Guthrie – Spill the Beans, Meg Clode – Bill & Betty Sanders. 15U: 15-38, Alice Keatley – Mark Davis Cleaning, Panashe Makore – Kelpie Café, Amy Pepper – Jim Tant. 12U: 1-36, Brody Nash – Spill the Beans, Ebony Jarrad – Faroe’s Newsagency. McNamara’s player of the day was awarded to Ebony McIntosh for her consistent efforts. Well done to Prue Robbins on playing 100 games. Last week I failed to mention that Meg Clode was also selected as an emergency for the WB 17U representative team. Congratulations Meg. Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mother’s involved in our great club.

Casterton played host to North Gambier on the weekend in the top of the table clash. Unfortunately for the seniors North Gambier showed exactly why they are the reigning premiers easily accounting for the young cats. Big Zac Michua was again dominant up forward booting three goals from limited opportunities . The best players were Tim Macmichael, Mark Cowland, Dale Bunnik and Jason Harvey. In the reserves Casterton came out strong in the first quarter with Jarrad Smith really setting the tone. In the end North were able to overcome the early scare, but to the cats credit I think they showed that; gone are the days in which casterton reserves are the easy beats of the league. Both the under 17’s and 15’s played a good standard of football but lost in close battles that could quite easily have went the other way. This week we are travelling over to South Gambier and all grades will be hoping to put themselves back onto the winners list. Go cats!!!!

We travelled to South last week and had a fairly successful day on the netball courts with 6 wins for the day. Our U 12’s continue to improve each week and started the day with good wins. Our 13’s went down after fighting hard all day and Kylie is doing a great job with this bunch of girls. Carol and Paula had nail biters in the 15’s & 17’s with both teams just getting over the line. The B Grade girls had a much improved effort taking it right up to South for most of the game and only slipping away in the last quarter! The C Grade girls are continuing to try different combinations and are improving each week and a win is just around the corner! The A Res were without Jess and Lynette and Kimmi helped them out again and played well with Kylie in defence, to help their side win their third game in a row. The A Grade were pushed all the way by South and only pulled away in the second half. Alex Walker played her first game in A Grade and at 14 years of age certainly has a bright future ahead of her! To all of our Mums of the club may you have a wonderful day on Sunday with your families. GO SAINTS!

Welcome to East Gambier our Arch rivals and its almost time for a win, it would make a lovely mothers day present for the old chooks of the MFNC. Make sure you spoil your mother tomorrow and go round and visit her as she carried you around in her round stomach for around 9 months. Do you realize how many things are Round? Today it’s Round 4 and after the game you will have a Round of drinks with your mates whilst standing in a circle and drink from a round can or stubbie. May have a Bacardi and cola from a round glass that you paid for with some Coins. Later you will eat tea from a round Plate. When you go at around 10pm you will say see you all around. You will look at your Car Tyres, Head Lights and Steering Wheel and decide to walk around the block to home while pondering why the World is round. You stumble on the Roundabout and hit your Knee on a Tree. Looking for a snack but what do you eat Pizza, Cheezels, Burger Rings, M&M’s, Salami, Eggs or a Hamburger. You decide it’s a Crumpet while watching a bit of Cricket, Soccer, Darts, Golf, Tennis, Squash, Volleyball and Bowls. You go to bed, and because it’s rectangular you freak out and get the Bed Spins and have a hurl in a bucket, now your Head hurts, so you have an Asprin. Neil Brown

Last week against West saw our juniors shine, but our seniors battling against strong opposition. A grade played a great first half, but West were too strong in the finish. Keep working hard girls, you will get there. A Res took on reining premiers, but let things slip away early in the game. Some great passages of play, but you really to eliminate errors on game day. B grade played a great game and stayed close in the first half, with a bit more drive in attack, you will improve. C grade made a great come back in the 2nd quarter and with better moving in the attacking circle, saw great scoring opportunities. 17’s controlled the whole game with fantastic defence, scoring on most turnovers. 15’s were superstars with the biggest winning margin for the day. SO much talent in this team, everyone works so well together. 13’s won their 2nd game for the year after a week off, working together as one this team has a big future. 12A side had a tremendous win, strong all over the court, what an improvement from last week. 12B side played Millicent Tuesday last week and although they didn’t win, they managed to score their very first goal for the season! Yay! We had 2 milestones last week: Sara Smith from under 13’s and Eilish McKay from under 17’s & A Res both playing their 50th games. We had 3 milestones last week: Sara Smith from under 13’s and Eilish McKay from under 17’s & A Res both playing their 50th games and Sasha Zvirgzdins from A Res playing her 100th game. Congratulations girls, this is a great achievement and we hope it doesn’t stop there.

A happy Mother’s Day to all of East Gambiers mothers, whose support and volunteering efforts make East Gambier the great club it is. A day (and night) of mixed fortunes for East as they hosted West under lights. The under 15’s unbeaten streak continued with a solid win. The Under 17’s development continued as they battled away without reward. The reserves won a heart stopper after the siren following a Simon Tulak special, his mongrel punt a thing of beauty as it floated and dipped through for a point to give the shortest of wins. The seniors struggled with injuries for a depleted bench just after half time, their efforts commendable but failing to record the win. Tonight we have the Jess Beck Quartet performing for the East Gambier masquerade ball. This is a major fundraiser for the club, so we hope you all grab a mask and meet as back at the kennel!

Western Border Netball Association junior representative teams made a great start to the 2013 inter-association season with two of the teams advancing through the regional rounds at Warrnambool last Sunday to the finals of the William Loud Tournament in Melbourne on June 23. The 13 and 17 and under teams will both be part of the June 23 finals, while the 15 and under team was bitterly unlucky, moving through the regional round robin undefeated before a two goal semi final loss relegated them out of contention for the two finals places in Melbourne. Before the Melbourne finals all three teams will compete at the South Australian Country Championships on the June long weekend. Unfortunately a lack of player availability means there will be no open side competing at the South Australian event after the Western Border took the title in 2011 and finished runner-up in 2012.Results13 & underWestern Border 12 d Warrnambool Districts 3; Western Border 12 d Warrnambool City 4; Western Border 9 d Ballarat 5; Western Border 10 d Hampden White 6; Western Border 7 lost to Hampden Green 10; Western Border 8 d South West Districts 3. WHITELION/BLUE LIGHT PARTNERSHIP - FRIDAY MAY 24th 2013 Mt GAMBIER

ABOUT WHITELIONWhitelion is a non-profit community organisation that has been supporting highly vulnerable young people for thirteen years. Our organisation provides youth-focused gender and culturally specific services in several areas. These include employment, role modelling, specialist outreach support and education based prevention programs.Whitelion’s mission is focused on connecting young people aged 10 to 24 with the community, giving them practical and effective supports that enable them to make positive choices in their lives. The young people that Whitelion works with have seldom had positive influences in their lives and are often victims of abuse and neglect. Many come from backgrounds that are characterised by multi-generational disadvantage, unemployment, substance abuse and offending behaviour. These young people require consistent, practical and intensive support to break the cycle of disadvantage and reach their full potential.

ABOUT BLUE LIGHTThe mission statement of Blue Light SA is “to develop and promote life learning and life skill activities for young people in a safe and fun environment, create positive relationships between people of all ages, and to minimize social disorder and crime related behaviour”.The activities of Blue Light are respected & admired in Mount Gambier and the Lime Coast Region, in particular with their acclaimed outdoor adventure and leadership development courses at Noorla Yo-Long, the Blue Light Youth camp at Millicent.

ABOUT BAIL OUTBail Out is Whitelion’s annual major fundraising campaign that aims to raise much needed funds to support young disadvantaged people at risk, whilst at the same time combining a substantial Community educational component.Bail Out provides a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a young disadvantaged person that has been disengaged or disconnected from our community, who may also be struggling from abuse and neglect, drug addiction and poverty.

LANDCAREVICTORIA

What is a catchment?

Geographically a catchment is an area of land that drains to a single low point such as

a gully, creek or river.A large catchment may be made up of a series of smaller sub-catchments and these are

made up of soil, water, air and vegetation. Together theses elements support life and

make up an ecosystem that within it has cycling of nutrients and other elements. Each

component is linked, so when one changes it has an effect on the other elements.

What is Integrated Catchment Management?

Integrated Catchment Management is a coordinated approach to the management of

natural resources. It is the integration of land, water, vegetation and other biological

resources for use in a sustainable, balanced way. ICM draws together all members of

the community to effectively manage the catchment in an integrated and holistic way.

ICM fosters joint action by all sectors of the community in an effort to co-ordinate the

problems and solutions within a catchment.Catchment Strategy – The Glenelg Hopkins CMA. Regional Catchment Strategy will be

built into a catchment management plan. The Murray-Darling Basin Initiative defines ICM as “a process through which people can

develop a vision, agree on shared values and behaviors, make informed decision and

act together to manage the natural resources of their catchment”.

This could be a commitment by the community and agencies of the catchment where

the overall aim could be that while addressing stream flows and stream health, to halt

the increase of salt and silt discharging from Fiery Creek and Salt Creeks and to reduce

overall salinity and silting in Lake Bolac. The adoption of the ICM approach is increasingly regarded as the most effective way

of dealing with environmental issues. ICM takes a ‘whole of systems’ approach and

avoids dealing with issues in isolation. It also recognizes the important role played by the

community in managing natural resources and advantages, such as increased mutual

understanding and effectiveness that results from a genuine partnership between

community and government.

In The PoolThe Swimmers compete

in soaring temperatures

at the House Swimming

Carnival. The skies were bright blue as the colourful

procession of red, blue, yellow and green

made its way noisily to the pool. The

chanting had begun already and the scene

was set for a day of heated competition

in the water. Mr Grigg was looking tense

as students entered the grounds and the

other houses turned their attention to

breaking, finally, Laidlaw’s record of too

many successive victories at the House

Swimming Carnival.

The day began with the diving events.

The standard continues to improve,

and it reflects the efforts Mrs Horne

has put into training the competitors.

This year the Diving cup was won

by Berry. As the ropes returned to

the pool to signal the beginning of

the races, the weather was growing

steadily hotter. Eager groups of

students retreated to the shade of the

‘tents’ and the staff performing duties

as judges and timekeepers looked

increasingly uncomfortable. Nothing,

however, seemed to take away from

the spirit of the day! The Year 12 cheer

squads excelled themselves and it

was not surprising that many had lost

their voices by the time the last event

had been swum.

The scores were close all day and

there were some amazing individual

efforts. Age group championships

were awarded to Anastasia Hamill,

Mitchell Godfrey Smith, Nina

Wootton, Jared Rieger, Robyn Sleigh,

Conrad Hamill, Anna Brown, Tom

Nolan and Jarrod Simons, Anna

Burger, Rodney Evans, Brigid

Godfrey Smith and Drew Dreary. As

the last pennant was presented, the

crowds gathered under the shade of

the trees grew quiet. Would Laidlaw

finally be vanquished? Their girls

performed so well that the blue house

was announced as quite a comfortable

winner of the Girls’ Aggregate. What

could the boys do? Young House

emerged victorious in the Boys’.

Aggregate and the pressure mounted –

but to no avail. Laidlaw once again held

the trophy for the Grand Aggregate

high!

It was again a most enjoyable and

smoothly run day. Miss Waldron

and the Physical Education staff had

worked tirelessly to make it a great

success!

Many successes at the

GSSSA Carnival.Only seven days later, a large team

of our most successful swimmers

returned to the Hamilton Pool to

compete against the region’s schools

in the GSSSA Carnival. Once again

the spirit and enthusiasm of the

squad was evident as the day began

with the diving. Amanda Horne,

Declan Murphy and Anna Burger

each won their events and put us in

strong position early in the day. The

freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke,

butterfly and medley races followed

and more victories were recorded

as Mitchell Godfrey Smith, Samuel

Winter-Cooke, Jandre Slabbert,

Rodney Evans, Megan McIntosh,

Alice Langley, Jack Baring, Jared

Rieger, Brigid Godfrey Smith and

Drew Deary all touched the wall first

in their respective events. Our relay

teams also performed very well.

At the end of the day, our Swimming

Captains, Brigid Godfrey Smith and

Fergus Harpley, proudly accepted the

trophies for the Diving and the Boys’

Aggregate. We came second in the

Grand Aggregate. Collandrian 20071

Forty six swimmers

sompete in the city at

the ICCES Carnival. The ICCES swimming was held at

Nunawading on the 14th of March this year.

A reasonably large team of 46 swimmers

took the long journey to Nunawading to

compete. This was a great opportunity

for all of our swimmers to compete

against much bigger schools and many

state representatives.

As our team quickly found out, the

standard was quite amazing at this

carnival but they certainly held their

heads high. There were a number of very

good results with the highlight being

David Andrivon’s second in the year 9

freestyle C. There were also some very

pleasing third placings for the following

students, Nina Wooton - year 7 freestyle

C, Tess Upstill - year 9 freestyle C, Brigid

Godfrey Smith - year 12 breaststroke,

Georgie Upton - year 8 freestyle D, Will

Collins - year 9 freestyle D and the Year

9 freestyle relay consisting of Conrad

Hamill, Jandre Slabbert, Will Collins and

David Andrivon.

The team arrived home weary but satisfied

with their efforts and appreciative of the

work done by Miss Waldron in training

the competitors and organising the trip.
