In eight railway stations, we talk about the stations and their employees, signalling signs, travellers and the travelling conditions in the early days of the railway. Exhibition “Lace and Lace. The world of Seto and Peipus-Russian patterns” in the barn of the Seto farm, is dedicated to the uniqueness of the men’s and women’s handicrafts, the life patterns and colours of the area.

Exhibition “Lace and Lace. The world of Seto and Peipus-Russian patterns” in the barn of the Seto farm, is dedicated to the uniqueness of the men’s and women’s handicrafts, the life patterns and colours of the area.
SASSI-JAANI FARM’S exhibition provides an overview of Estonian farm architecture and construction, household implements, agriculture and animal husbandry throughout the centuries. Dance performances of the Folklore Society Leigarid take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 from May 30 to September 6.
AT KÖSTRIASEME FARM housewife dyes yarn and does thatch work. Visitors can try sawing wood. Chickens scurry around. On Saturdays and Sundays from May 16 to September 13, a master craftsman will weave a woollen plaid on a loom.
AT NUKI FARM the family earns their keep doing handicrafts. The housewife juggles a number of skills – embroidery on one occasion, sewing on another, just about anything that wealthier folk order from her.
AT PULGA FARM housewife tills the garden. Thinning beets, weeding the cabbage and carrot plots are just some of the things that need to be done. On the third Thursday of every month, the smoke sauna is stoked. On the stoop of the storehouse, there’s a box of farm kids’ toys that every town child should look at. Visitors can also play tug-of-war and do stilt walking. Pulga Farm is also part of the “Circle of Life” exhibition, birth and baptism customs are presented here.
AT HÄRJAPEA FARM the housewives are proficient in handicraft and preparing tasty fare. On Saturdays of June, July and August they teach how to make
toys and children’s clothes according to the patterns of the 1920s and 1930s. On Sundays, they cook and bake exciting dishes from the cookery books of the 1920s and 1930s. Härjapea Farm is part of the “Circle of Life” exhibition, church confirmations are the specific topic for this farm.
AARTE FARM’S livelihood is fishing along the coast. Baltic herring are dried along the eaves. Alongside other chores and crafts, the housewife patches a quilt. At the weekend, coffee purchased from friends in Finland is roasted and ground.
AT JÜRI-JAAGU FARM , the Muhu Island people’s love of and flair for using colours in their textiles and buildings can be seen. With help from the housewife, visitors can paint the motifs of wedding blankets on a shingle.
KOLGA FARM • Work and fun go hand in hand on Hiiumaa Island. The housewife has a net fork set up for weaving fishnets. Kolga Farm is also part of the “Circle of Life” exhibition, courting and wedding customs are presented here.
AT ROOSTA FARM one can listen to the prayers at the Moravian prayer house and imagine how the congregation held services. Roosta Farm is part of the “Circle of Life” exhibition, death and funeral customs are the focus here.
RUSI FARM • Many farms in Southern Estonia were purchased with the income gained from growing flax. A flax brake, combs and a swingle has been set up in Rusi farm to collect every last fibre from the flax plant. Võru County is also known for its pottery. The housewife of Rusi farm explains how a practical clay pot is made.
KUIE SCHOOL is a busy place until Midsummer Eve: before going on their summer holidays, the children have to practise reading, do their arithmetic and memorise their Bible stories. When the lessons are done, everyone can try out what it must have been like to sit on a hard bench studying the old texts.
LAU SHOP • The range of goods carried by the village shop is broad. Tasty sweets and chocolates for kids, beautiful textiles, fancy serving dishes, spices and seasonings for the ladies, household tools and implements ranging from scythes to buckets, good beers and fine wines for the gents.
SUTLEPA CHAPEL • This old chapel is a place to take time out and think about the bigger values in life. Sutlepa Chapel is part of the “Circle of Life” exhibition.
SEPA FARM specialises in sheep farming. Processing wool requires its fair share of skill. The mistress of Sepa will demonstrate and talk about what types of work were needed to turn wool into socks. On weekends from May 16 to September 13, blacksmith apprentices will work at the smithy.
AT KALMA WINDMILL visitors can see photos of Estonian windmills. At the base of the windmill is a big Mill Game table where visitors can put their cleverness to the test.
SUMMER SEASON EXHIBITIONSMay 1 – September 28 exhibition “Circle of Life” • The life of an individual is one great swirly circle. In addition to the yearly circles, a person’s circle of life is tied together by life-changing personal events – celebrations filled with rituals – which help to move from one stage of life to the next. The exhibition has four major themes. We exhibit birth and the christening party on Pulga farm, confirmation on Härjapea, courting traditions, matchmaking and the wedding on Kolga, and death and the funeral on Roosta farm. You can take time to reflect on the circle of a person’s life in Sutlepa chapel.
May 15 – September 1 at Kolu Inn summer exhibition of the handicrafts club of Haabersti Social Centre • A display of the works of the patchwork club, handloom club, crocheting and knitting club and handicrafts club Raudrohi.
May 28 – August 2 on the Pulga farm’s threshing floor a photograph exhibition by Arvo Iho “The culture of the Lake Peipus area Old Believers.” • The selection of photographs taken in the course of
three years gives an overview of the culture of the Old Believers and their relations with the world. The exhibition shows open, friendly and clear-eyed people in their everyday environment.
August 6 – September 28 on Pulga farm an exhibition of the Seto Farm Museum “20 kirivät keväjät” (“20 colourful springs”) gives an overview of the birth of the Seto lace contest and the prepared lacework with new patterns. This is a special and colourful handicrafts exhibition from the Estonian borderland – Setomaa.
ANIMALS AT THE MUSEUMChicken flock wanders in the yard of Köstriaseme farm. There are sheep on Sepa farm and goats in the barn of Peipus-Russian dwelling. Horses are waiting to take you for a ride from the horse stop by the inn! You can also come across Hanno the cat. In the forest, there are roe deer and foxes, but make sure you do not go too close to them.
