Tips & Tricks for Finals Prep

- Study the same thing in multiple locations According to the New York Times, simply alternating the room where a person studies improves retention

- Time management: Cramming causes anxiety, which lowers your ability to retain information. By creating a balanced study plan and schedule, you will be able to study each subject in its entirety and ultimately boost your test performance.

- Say YES to cardio: Science says that just 20 minutes of cardio can improve your memory. Plus, it will help reduce stress!

Group ReviewA reliable and prepared group of study partners can increase your knowledge and also supply important study information that you may have missed in class notes or failed to understand in the text. Set study guidelines for the group before meeting such a requirement to bring sample essay topics with brainstorming ideas or multiple-choice questions with answers. The most effective study groups have three members, according to Muskingum College.

(FOR TEACHERS)True or False? – Finals, Answer Key

1. True&False Music helps you study (maybe, depending on who you are, AND instrumental music has the best results according to research)

2. False Highlighting your notes is the best way to prepare for a test (Find a way to engage your brain more, even underlining will help more than highlighting – what other options do you know?)

3. True&False Your friends don’t help when it comes to getting ready for finals (Ask yourself these questions: are my friends taking the same class? Do they help me concentrate? Do they ask me to justify or reason when we study? )

4. True : What you eat on Monday effects your test on Friday (Your brain needs good food all week to learn, process, and retain information for a test on Friday)

5. False: Cumulative finals cover one chapter (Cumulative means EVERYTHING covered so far this year)
