It is simply impossible to lead, without the aid of prayer, a virtuous life. Saint John Chrysostom Bishop Edward Joyce Fourth Bishop of Christchurch was born in Lyttelton on 26 June 1904. Ordained a priest on 31 October 1930, he worked in a number of parishes throughout the Diocese. He was appointed Bishop of Christchurch on 18 April 1950, the first bishop to come from within the Diocese, and ordained bishop in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on 16 July 1950 by Archbishops McKeefry and Liston and Bishop Kavanagh. Bishop Joyce died on 28 January 1964 and is buried in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. _____________________________________________________________________ A Faith Journey We welcomed Jen Tyro, our NE teacher, into the Catholic Community on Monday when Fr Bryan anointed her, by the sign of the cross on her forehead, with the Oil of the Catechumens. Today at our Mass Jen is being baptised and receiving her First Communion. How beautiful for a teacher to be a role model with our pupils witnessing her initiation into our faith. _______________________________________________________________________ Welcome We welcome Henry Ridpath (and Amy & James) to our school family. Henry has started school in Rm 8. Welcome also to Salote Tatafu (and Telela) to our school family. Salote joins us in Rm 8. __________________________________________________________________ Congratulations to the following students who last Friday received Assembly certificates: Ian de Paiva (for your can do attitude in class), Teia Clark (for independent and creative writing), Charlee Large (for being an organised and reliable Rm 2 member), Oli O’Malley (for being caring and reliable in our fire drill), Elijah Reynolds (for showing the virtue of reliable), Aimee Wheble (for being a self managing student all week), Quinn Franklin (for being a caring member of our class and being a reliable friend to others), Bella Garner (absent) (for showing respect and reliability by being in the right place at the right time) and Scarlett Hollis (absent) (for being a respectful and reliable member of Room 4). Also Duffy Books awards for literacy: Brody Dixon, Makua Gulliver, Jennifer Courtier, Jack Coleman, Jesse Reynolds, Carlos Fong, Hunter Mason, Lily-Rose Sutton, Lochy Layton-Stewart. _________________________________________________________________ Last Thursday most staff were offsite at the MOE for a PB4L workshop. The day focused primarily on ways of acknowledging positive behaviour for our students. Just like our students need feedback on their maths and their reading, they also need feedback and positive recognition on their behaviour as everyone is still learning. This week teachers are having conversations with their classes on ... Why we have rewards at school. What they think of the reward systems we already have in place at NBC. What rewards they believe work best for them at school.
