This term has an ARTS focus culminating in a full school production that involves every child getting their opportunity to shine. Pencil these dates in now and please note that every child needs to be at every performance. We do manage it that the littlies are able to do their bit early and then leave as we are aware that it can be a change to the bedtime routine. More information to come on this closer to the time. The production is called Urban Garb and will resemble The Wellington Wearable Arts - but much better! The show times are: Tuesday 14 September 1pm and 6.30pm Wednesday 15 September 6.30pm Thursday 16 September 6.30pm We will let you know more information about the Production and ticket sales in the coming weeks. Next Thursday City Care are organising a free sausage sizzle (gluten free included) for every child in the school, as a thank you for being patient and tolerant with the road works. Thank you City Care ...it is a lovely gesture. Thank you for having your children rested and ready and looking gorgeous to start the new term. Exciting things ahead. School Docs

If you would like to become more familiar with the school policies you can do this by jumping on the school website and clicking on the policy button (under the “Our School” tab). That will take you directly to the policies and will also explain how you can contribute to the review process. The school encourages your involvement. To sign on, please use Name: “hoonhay” and Password: “sparks”.

Blogging Reminder

You may have noticed that we have changed the way we blog. In previous years we have used class pages which was password protected so only those with the password could access. This year we have moved to using ‘blogger’ which is much quicker and easier for staff. However, it is not password protected. On enrolment you signed a form giving permission for your child’s image, work and/or first name with initial of surname to be used on our website. Mostly this is used through the newsletter where we share photos, work and first names with initial of surname. Our blogs (which are on our website) follow the same guidelines. If you feel uncomfortable with this, please email the office to let us know and we will ensure that your child’s image, work and name are not shared through blogging.

On a separate note, please leave a comment when you view the blog...it is tremendously exciting to know that someone has viewed your work and every comment is shared with the children. Just be aware that teachers have to approve all the comments first so you will not see them instantly on the blog. The children get a real kick out of knowing that family members have viewed their ‘amazing’ efforts.

Can you help?

We are looking for someone who is willing and able to give their time and expertise behind a camera, and come and take some shots of our lovely children during the production. If you would be willing to assist us, please contact the office – thank you!

What else are we great at? Awesome work to Luke S who competed extremely well at the recent Speed Skating competition in Dunedin! Look at all the medals and certificates.

South West Zone Winter Tournament Congratulations to our sports teams that competed at Hagley Park in the South West Zone Winter Tournament. The children were enthusiastic and played some really great games showing fantastic sportsmanship. Competition was tough but Hoon Hay never gave up. Our Football Red and Netball Red teams both made it through to their finals, and then both teams went on to win their final! Well done both these teams as they won the tournament, they will now go onto play at Centrals later in August. Our Taniwha's rugby team won all their games until they came up against Rowley School in the last game of the morning, who sadly put an end to their winning streak. Hockey Red had a mixed bag of results, but dug deep as a team and finished 7th.
