Principal Notes
Catholic Schools Week is next week. This
is an important week for all Catholic schools
in our nation. It is a time to celebrate that we
have the opportunity to integrate our faith
with our academics. There are so many
times that we are able gather as a school
family to pray, to celebrate the First
Eucharist of our 2nd
graders, to congratulate
our graduates, to lend support to our friends
and families. We know that not all schools
do this, but having our faith as part of our
everyday lives is what makes us St.
Matthias. We are so proud of it, and we truly
celebrate that during Catholic Schools
Week.
You should have seen our flyer for next
week listing all of our events. We hope to
see you at some of them. It is always fun to
have parents cheering with us at the spelling
bee, relays and the game show. I also hope
to see you all at our Open House on Sunday
from 10:00-1:30. It is a great time to talk
with next year’s teacher to learn about that
grade.
Many of you have asked how Mrs. Turner is
doing. There is a note in this week’s mailer
from her explaining the situation. Please
continue to keep her in your prayers.
See you Sunday at our Open House!
Inclement Weather
St. Matthias Parish School will follow the
decision of the Superintendent of
Milwaukee Public Schools in closing the
school for inclement weather. Please listen
to the local radio/television stations. Please
do not call the school, parish center, or staff
members at home.
Registration for 2015-2016
We are now planning for the 2015-2016
school year. There is a reservation form in
this week’s mailer. Please fill it out and
return it to the school office if you have not
yet done so. There is no registration fee this
year. We will invoice your family in April
for the $300 deposit which is deducted from
your 2015-2016 tuition, but we need you to
fill out the reservation form so we know
whether your family is returning. This
information is vital so we can accurately
plan for the 2015-2016 school year.
If you have any questions about the
reservation form or planning for next year,
please contact Mrs. Booth at (414) 321-0894
or at [email protected] .
Dogs at Pick Up
Please do not bring your dogs on the
playground during drop-off or pick-up. We
have students with allergies and some with
fear of dogs. We do not want to cause any
problems. If you have any questions, please
contact Mrs. Booth at (414) 321-0894 or at
[email protected]

Milwaukee Parental Choice Program
We are finalizing our paperwork for the
Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. We
believe this will be a valuable program for
St. Matthias and will help many of our
current families and parishioners in giving
their children a Catholic education.
We surveyed our current families and those
in Christian Formation to determine a
general number of students who may qualify
for the program. With those results, we have
decided to open 75 Choice seats for the
2015-2016 school year in grades K4-8. We
are planning for a total school enrollment of
300 students. We have also determined our
open enrollment months. We will be
accepting Choice applications from the 1st –
20th
of the following months: February,
March, April, May, August and September.
Once the Choice seats in a grade are filled,
we will start a waiting list for that grade.
We encourage all our current families who
qualify for the program to apply in February.
Please see the flyer in this week’s mailer.
We will have information on the Choice
program on our website next week. This will
include the application for the program.
There will also be folders available at the
school office. Feel free to contact Mrs.
Booth at [email protected] or
Mr. Richter at [email protected]
for information as well. They are happy to
sit down with families and walk you through
the application process. We realize this
program is new and we want all families to
have paperwork filled out and completed
within the deadlines.
Hot Lunch Ala Carte
Our lunch program has started serving ala
carte. This will be available to 2-8 graders
after the hot lunch has been served. We have
included a listing of items that are available
and the cost. Please know these may change
slightly throughout the year. Also, you can
always see what items your child is
purchasing by logging in to your Nutri-Kids
account. You are able to see a listing of the
purchases made for each child. A child will
not be allowed to purchase ala carte items if
their lunch account is in the negative.
If you do not want your child to purchase ala
carte items, please contact Mr. Jonathan
Richter to let him know. He does need it in
writing, and you can contact him through
email, [email protected] .
It is also important to talk with your children
about the ala carte options. They are in
addition to their lunches. We do not want
children to purchase chips and cookies and
eat those instead of their lunches. Also,
children should not be purchasing items for
other children. Please discuss with your
child when they can participate in this.
If you have any questions about ala carte,
please contact Mrs. Booth or Mr. Richter at
(414) 321-0894.

Mrs. Turner
I wanted to update you on Mrs. Turner’s
vocal health. Mrs. Turner had a follow up
appointment with the doctor yesterday. Her
vocal condition has shown no improvement
since last week. She will continue to be on
vocal rest for at least one more week. She
will follow up with the doctor next week to
determine the next course of action.
Mrs. Turner will continue to be in the school
building, but will not be seeing music or art
classes. If you have any questions, please
send an email to Mrs. Turner at
