This Week in Grade 8 ENGLISH The new English unit will turn it’s attention to the concept of Transformations. The specific focus will be on protest songs and their abili ty to impact an d transform society . SOCIAL STUDIES Completing their MUN performance task has been the focus this week and everyone has done a fantastic job participating in such a gre at debate. Next week will be a relaxing week with the focus on Geography, specifically the map of the Mid dle East . Upon r eturn from the holiday, the new unit will begin: Transformations. Speci fically, it will look at revolutions - both historical and current - and how governments have been transforme d by revolutions. SCIENCE Students have been working in groups on their performance task this week - looking at a system dysfunction (disease ) and how it affects the working of the human systems. Most classes have completed the project (many did a video) or will finish and presen t on Mon day . Just before the long holiday, we will introduce a new unit: T ransfor mations. Thi s un it will investigate how machines work and types of energy. MATH Students completed their Basic Skills assessm ent today and will con tinue with the Geometry unit next week. They shou ld continue to learn and practice their geometry vocabulary - polygons, lines, planes, angles. Next up will be learning how to find the measurement of angles within a triangle.
