Choice of operators, including gearoperators, pneumaticactuators, vaneactuators, standardand throttling handles.

Hex drive providespositive discmovement withoutin-line pins, screws,or bolts. All stem partsare out of the flowpath.

Ribbed seat faceeliminates the needfor flange gaskets, insures a leak-proofinstallation.

Streamlined discminimizes turbulenceand pressure drop forflow efficiency.

Dual stem with upperand lower tangentialpins allows a self-centering disc. Thisdesign provides equalsealing pressure 360 °around the disc, assuringpositive shut off andexlending service life.

Triple seat design(O-ring, undersizedstem holes in seat, corresponding flats onseat and disc hubs)provides three, completely independentseals, isolating thestem from line fluid.

Patented elastomerseat with two-piece,hard phenolic back-upeliminates seat walkingand allows the seat toexpand under pressure, making the valve bodythe pressure containingcomponent.

Weco butterfly valves have been solving fluid control problemsin oilfield and general industrial applications for over 20 years.Today’ s FMC is putting that experience to work for you in moreways than ever before...meeting your changing needs withdependable Weco butterfly valves, operators, and actuators.

Field-proven features plus “new technology”in every valve

When you specify W eco butterfly valves, you get the ultimatein dependable, economical flow control. That’ s because FMCcombines the field-proven features and benefits of W eco valves(shown on facing page) with technical advances in engineering andmanufacturing.

From computer -aided engineering (CAE) and computeraideddesign/computer -aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to automatedmanufacturing cells and high-density warehouse systems, today’ sFMC is putting “new technology” into every W eco butterfly valve.Technology that is helping FMC improve deliveries and provideunsurpassed service. The result: You get the field-proven depend-ability you demand and the quality service you deserve with everyWeco valve.

Complete range of sizes and stylesMeeting your “demands” means having the butterfly valves

you need, when you need them. W eco butterfly valves are availablefrom stock in 2- through 24-inch sizes and can handle workingpressures to 175 psi. W afer, notched, and lugtype body styles makeit easy for you to find the valve that meet your requirements for newor existing piping systems. Short and long neck models and stemextensions are available.

Regardless of size or style, W eco butterfly valves provideoutstanding flow characteristics due to low profile disc design.

How today’s FMC is meeting your -”demands” withdependable Weco butterfly valves, operatorsand actuators

Materials to meet your service requirementsTo insure that FMC meets your exacting service requirements,

Weco butterfly valves are available in a wide variety of materials.Valve bodies, discs, stems, and seats all can be individually matchedto your specific operating conditions, including: temperature range, type and concentration of fluid, and various flow conditions. AllFMC materials of construction meet ASTM and AISI standards.

Wide choice of operators and actuatorsAll models and sizes of W eco butterfly valves can be

equipped with Weco operators and actuators as well as otherbrands of actuators. You can choose from standard and throttlinghandles, gear operators, chain-wheel operators, pneumaticactuators, vane-type actuators, special controllers, and positionersas required.

Fast, simple field repairWeco butterfly valves provide dependable service under the

harshest of applications. Because there are no in-line screws, pins,or bolts, little or no maintenance is required. If the valve shouldneed repair , it can be completely reconditioned in the field usinginterchangeable, stock parts. No special tools are needed.

Non-Compressible Fluids

Use the foIlowing equations for sizing vaIves handIing Iiquids(A) (B) (C)

Cv = Q Q = C v ∆P = G

Where: Q = Flow in gallons per minute (gpm)∆P = (PI - P2) Pressure Drop (psi)P1 = Inlet Pressure (psia)P2 = Outlet Pressure (psia)G = Specific Gravity of Liquid (W ater = 1.0)Cv = Valve Coefficient (Refer T o Appropriate T able)

The equations Iisted above are the basis for the WECO sizingnomogram. The nomogram is a method of solving the equationsabove quickly and simply when the service fluid is water .

Weco Butterfly Valves Sizing InformationExampleGiven: A 6" WECO Butterfly V alve is to be installed in a

line handIing 500 gpm of water .Find: Maximum pressure drop across the valve when in

the full open and 60 ° open positions.Solution: This problem may be solved using the nomogram or

equation (C).

First Using the Nomogram: Enter nomogram on right side fora flow rate of 500 gpm. Draw horizontal line until it intersectsthe 6" valve line. From this point draw a vertical line until itintersects the 90 ° open line. Project line horizontally to the leftand read ∆Pof .061 psi. Now , using same procedure as above, extend vertical line to 60 ° open line and project horizontally tothe left to read ∆Pof .67 psi for 60 ° open.

Using Equation (C): Pressure Drop = ∆P = G

Where:Cv = 2020 @ 90 ° open (from tables)G = 1.0 (Water)Q = 500 gpm

∆P = 1.0 = .0613

Now: Cv = 61O gpm @ 60 ° open, and ∆P= 1.0 = .672

Required Operating Torques:

There are three tor ques to be considered when selecting theproper actuator for a butterfly valve.

(1) Seating Torque - The tor que required to displace aresiIient seat and effect shutoff

(2) Bearing Torque - The tor que required to over comefriction for ces on the valve shaftbearing surfaces

(3) Dynamic Torque - Torque due to fluid for ces whichtend to close the valve.

The tor ques for resilient seated valves tabulated in this sectionare the sum of (1) and (2) above for various shutoff pressures. These tabulated values include a safety factor lar ge enough toinsure proper valve operation in most general butterfly valveapplications. Where unusual service conditions exist (such aslikelihood of seat swelling, or low and high temperature seathardening), an additional safety factor may be applicable.

Dynamic Torque

Dynamic tor que is tor que on the valve shaft due to the fluidforces on the valve disc. This tor que is a function of valvediameter, pressure drop, and a tor que coefficient (C t) whichvaries with angle opening. T orque is calculated by the equation:T = CtD

3∆P Where: T = Dynamic tor que (in-lb)D = Valve Dia. (in.)Ct = Dynamic tor que coefficient

(see table below)

Dynamic tor que is not usually of major concern in resilientseated butterfly valves unless the line velocity exceeds 20 fps. If linevelocity exceeds this, a check should be made to insure that actuatoroutput exceeds the calculated dynamic tor que. Dynamic tor queshould be checked at 80 ° open for on-off applications.

Dynamic tor que is of prime consideration in situations whereline velocity is not recovered downstream of the valve. Thissituation exists on installations where there is an unlimited sour ceand less than 6 diameters of pipe downstream of the valve. If avalve dischar ges to the atmosphere, the pressure drop across thevalve will be equal to the height of water above the valve for allangles of valve opening. This pressure drop must not exceed thepressure drop tabulated in Maximum ∆P vs. Angle Opening Tablesfor any angle. If it does, provisions must be made for velocityrecovery by adding downstream piping.

Actuator Sizing For Tee Linkages

For standard tee linkage applications where one actuator operatestwo butterfly valves of the same size with one valve opening as theother valve closes, the actuator sizing will be the same as for asingle butterfly valve application. For the actuator sizing for othertandem linkage applications, consult the factory .

Low-Torque Valves

Under cut discs are available for butterfly valve applications thatrequire lower seating tor ques. For complete information, consultfactory .
