The sign of the cross T may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

InvocationP In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.C Amen.

Exhortation LSB 151P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is

not in us.C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will

forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination.

Confession of Sins LSB 151P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful

and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Absolution LSB 151P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and

for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 12:1–61You will say in that day:“I will give thanks to you, O LORD,

for though you were angry with me,your anger turned away,

that you might comfort me.2“Behold, God is my salvation;

I will trust, and will not be afraid;for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,

and he has become my salvation.”3With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

4And you will say in that day:

Epistle James 1:16–2116Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17Every good gift and

every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness that God requires. 21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. A This is the Word of the Lord.C Thanks be to God.

Gospel ProcessionPlease stand. During the Easter Season, we will hear the Holy Gospel proclaimed from the midst of the congregation, remembering that our crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ is here in our very mist right now! (Matthew 18:20). Please turn to face the processional cross as Pastor moves toward the center of the sanctuary with the Gospel. As we prepare to hear God’s Word, the choir will sing a festive musical setting of the Alleluia, then the congregation will speak together the Easter verse below, then we will all sing the festive setting of the Alleluia together. At last, we’ll hear the eternal Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaimed!

952 Alleluia (Choir)V Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia!

Holy Gospel John 16:5–15P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the sixteenth chapter.

5[Jesus said:] “But now I am going to him who sent me, and none

of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

12“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to

come. 14He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Nicene CreedC I believe in one God,

the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.

5 God said to His belovèd Son:    “It’s time to have compassion. Then go, bright jewel of My crown,    And bring to all salvation. From sin and sorrow set them free;Slay bitter death for them that they    May live with You forever.”

6 The Son obeyed His Father’s will,    Was born of virgin mother; And God’s good pleasure to fulfill,    He came to be my brother. His royal pow’r disguised He bore;A servant’s form, like mine, He wore    To lead the devil captive.

7 To me He said: “Stay close to Me,    I am your rock and castle.Your ransom I Myself will be;    For you I strive and wrestle. For I am yours, and you are Mine,And where I am you may remain;    The foe shall not divide us.

8 “Though he will shed My precious blood,    Me of My life bereaving,All this I suffer for your good;    Be steadfast and believing.Life will from death the vict’ry win;My innocence shall bear your sin,    And you are blest forever.

9 “Now to My Father I depart,    From earth to heav’n ascending,And, heav’nly wisdom to impart,    The Holy Spirit sending; In trouble He will comfort youAnd teach you always to be true    And into truth shall guide you.

10 “What I on earth have done and taught    Guide all your life and teaching; So shall the kingdom’s work be wrought    And honored in your preaching. But watch lest foes with base alloyThe heav’nly treasure should destroy;    This final word I leave you.”

The pastor addresses the catechumens.

P Beloved in the Lord, our Lord Jesus Christ said to His apostles: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” You have been baptized and catechized in the Christian faith according to our Lord’s bidding. Jesus said, “Whoever confesses Me before men, I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” Lift up your hearts, therefore, to the God of all grace and joyfully give answer to what I now ask you in the name of the Lord.

P Do you this day in the presence of God and of this congregation acknowledge the gifts that God gave you in your Baptism?

R Yes, I do. P Do you renounce the devil?R Yes, I renounce him. P Do you renounce all his works?R Yes, I renounce them.

Page 15: Weeblygoodsheptomah.weebly.com/.../may_2_2021_s1c_bulletin.docx · Web viewMost merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought,

P Do you renounce all his ways?R Yes, I renounce them. P Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty?R Yes, I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and

earth. P Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord?R Yes, I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was

conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

P Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?R Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the

communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

P Do you hold all the prophetic and apostolic Scriptures to be the

inspired Word of God?R I do. P Do you confess the doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church,

drawn from the Scriptures, as you have learned to know it from the Small Catechism, to be faithful and true?

R I do. P Do you intend to hear the Word of God and receive the Lord’s

Supper faithfully?R I do, by the grace of God.

Page 16: Weeblygoodsheptomah.weebly.com/.../may_2_2021_s1c_bulletin.docx · Web viewMost merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought,

P Do you intend to live according to the Word of God, and in faith, word, and deed to remain true to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, even to death?

R I do, by the grace of God. P Do you intend to continue steadfast in this confession and

Church and to suffer all, even death, rather than fall away from it?

R I do, by the grace of God. P We rejoice with thankful hearts that you have been baptized and

have received the teaching of the Lord. You have confessed the faith and been absolved of your sins. As you continue to hear the Lord’s Word and receive His blessed Sacrament, He who has begun a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

C Amen.

The catechumens kneel to receive the confirmation blessing. The pastor places his hands on the head of each catechumen and makes the sign of the cross on the forehead while saying:

P [Name], the almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given you the new birth of water and of the Spirit and has forgiven you all your sins, strengthen you with His grace to life T everlasting.

R Amen.

The pastor may read a text of Holy Scripture as a remembrance of confirmation. After all the catechumens have received the blessing, one or both of the following collects are prayed.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank and praise You for Your great goodness in bringing these Your sons to the knowledge of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, and enabling them both with the heart to believe and with the mouth to confess His saving name. Grant that, bringing forth the fruits of faith, they may continue steadfast and victorious to the day when all who have fought the good fight of faith shall receive the crown of righteousness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

P Almighty and most merciful Father, in the waters of Holy Baptism You have united Your children in the suffering and death of Your Son Jesus Christ, cleansing them by His blood. Renew in them the gift of Your Holy Spirit, that they may live in daily contrition and repentance with a faith that ever clings to their Savior. Deliver them from the power of Satan and preserve them from false and dangerous doctrines, that they may remain faithful in hearing Christ’s Word and receiving His body and blood. By the Lord’s Supper strengthen them to believe that no one can make satisfaction for sin but Christ alone. Enable them to find joy and comfort only in Him, learning from this Sacrament to love You and their neighbor and to bear the cross with patience and joy until the day of the resurrection of their bodies to life immortal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Prayer of the Church

+SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT+Preface LSB 160

P The Lord be with you.

P Lift up your hearts.

P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Proper Preface (Full)P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and

in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. And most especially are we bound to praise You on this day for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us and bore the sins of the world. By His dying He has destroyed death, and by His rising again He has restored to us everlasting life. Therefore with Mary Magdalene, Peter and John, and with all the witnesses of the resurrection, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

The Words of Our LordP Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took

bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Gifts from God: James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.” God is the source of all goodness. When we do good, therefore, we imitate Him and reflect His light to all the world. Christians give freely because God has first given so freely to us. We are only imitating our Father and growing up into His likeness.

Confirmation: Today we rejoice to celebrate the Confirmation of Faith of two of our youth members: Jakob Baumgartner and Ethan Gole. We pray that our gracious Lord continues to bless and guide you both throughout your life!
