Just a little background on the Early Head Start Staff
Home Visitors Change their Name to Family Educators
Page 2 WCAC Early Head Start Newsletter
The title “Visitor” never adequately defined the role. It simply describes someone who comes
to your home and spends time, which could be a good thing if they are helpful or a bad thing, if
they are just wasting your time. A visitor has no relationship to family or community.
A “Family Educator” best defines the role because we service families, through referrals and
advocacy. We involve families through meaningful interactions within the home environment,
through center based socialization opportunities and through local trips. We also promote fam-
ily/ community partnerships through parent committees and policy council involvement.
The Early Head Start staff is comprised of highly trained, licensed professionals with AA’s, BA’s
and MA’s and have earned the right to be called Educators.
My name is Luzaida but I am known by Lucy for short. I have
my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been
working with children for two years now and have been a staff
member of Early Head Start for one year as of November. I
started as a participant in EHS and am proud to say that work-
ing for them now has been an adventure and a great learning
experience. I hope that with each interaction you all gain from
me will be something that you can use later on in life with your
child.
