This past Sunday we reaffirmed our baptismal vows before ordaining and installing our new elders. This had me thinking about the vows that we often make as a body of believers. One of those that we make is when we join the church. It is written different ways, but it basically says this: Will you devote yourself to the church’s teachings and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers? I will, with God’s help. This is what successful membership in the body of Christ looks like. A devotion to learning and fellowship, worship, and spiritual growth. It is a vow that most of us have made at one point and I invite you to rededicate yourself to it. I also point you to the last part of the response: with God’s help. We all need God’s help as we go through this journey of life. The good news is that God is always there to offer that help. After all, the faith we have in God being there for us is one of the reasons we became members of the church in the first place. From the desk of Pastor Collin...
This past Sunday we reaffirmed our baptismal vows before ordaining and installing our new elders. This had me thinking about the vows that we often make as a body of believers. One of those that we
make is when we join the church. It is written different ways, but it basically says this:
Will you devote yourself to the church’s teachings and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers?
I will, with God’s help.
This is what successful membership in the body of Christ looks like. A devotion to learning and fellowship, worship, and spiritual growth. It is a vow that most of us have made at one point and I invite you to rededicate yourself to it.
I also point you to the last part of the response: with God’s help. We all need God’s help as we go through this journey of life. The good news is that God is always there to offer that help. After all, the faith we have in God being there for us is one of the reasons we became members of the church in the first place.
May God continue to bless,

Children’s Valentines Day Party! Attention children preschool-5th grade and their families! There will be a children's Valentines Day Party right after church upstairs in the youth suite on February 12th from 12:15 - 1:45pm! Join us to celebrate the love of God! Have some lunch, make some fun crafts and play some games all focusing on "we love because He first loved us!"
The band started as a result of a conversation between Amos Griffin and Richard McConnell as they were returning home from a Community Band practice. Amos had written some sax parts of some big band music and five sax players were practicing this music at his home on Brandonwood Dr. They decided to enlist other musicians to fill out a jazz band to play music like that performed by Glenn Miller, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey and others during the 1930's and 1940's. Richard bought a conductor's score (Fabulous Big Band Era) of big band music from Hewgley's Music Store in Nashville, TN on January 6, 1981. The original group decided to buy all 17 parts (total bill was 58.26) and chipped in to buy a complete set of this music. Tunes from this book as well as a few arranged by Amos were used for us to get started and some of these tunes are still in our folder. The band started practicing on the stage of the Eastman Employee Center in February of 1981.
Current Members include: Saxes - Susan Hall, Stacia Brown, Bryan Brewster, Gary Robertz Trombones - Dan Cobb, Gary Easley, Bob Kirk, David Gray, John Hyatt Trumpets - Theron Blickenstaff, Brandon Woods, Scot Fleming Guitar - John Evans Bass - Ric Burns, Bill Dunham Piano - Morrisa Diamond, Brett McCluskey Drums - Charlie Herron Maracas - Donna Cobb

Health Tip: Trying to
Un-clog That Stuffy Nose?
Using a decongestant
Over-the-counter decongestants can spell re-lief from a stuffy nose, but it's important to use them properly to avoid side effects.
The American Academy of Family Physicians advises:
Read and follow package instructions.
Do not take more than the recommended dose.
Check with your doctor to make sure an OTC decongestant is safe to take with your other meds.
Don't take more than one decongestant at a time.
Call your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions.
Many faithful volunteers serve in our food pantry throughout the year. They take inventory and order groceries, pick up and deliver food from Food City, Second Harvest Food Bank and Panera, fill grocery bags for Friday distributions, repackage bakery goods (“doughnations”) from Panera, greet and register visitors to our food pantry and distribute food on Friday mornings, coordinate the volunteer schedules, maintain the computer, work on the Christmas Card Project. Some of our volunteers have helped to keep our food pantry functioning smoothly for years. This is an opportunity to recognize our many volunteers: “Our sincere appreciation goes to each of you for a job well done!”

Health Tip: Order a Healthier Breakfast
Tips for better eating
Bacon, pastries and other unhealthy choices abound on breakfast menus. But there are healthier options if you know what to look for.
The American Heart Association suggests:
Drink a glass of 100 percent fruit juice before eating.
Order toast, but choose whole-wheat instead of white, and use a small spread of jam or low-fat cottage cheese instead of butter. Or go for a whole-wheat bagel with low-fat cream cheese.
Opt for whole grain cereal (be careful of granola, which can be high in fat). Enjoy it with fat-free milk.
Create a bowl of low-fat or fat-free yogurt topped with fresh fruit.
On a chilly morning, dig into a bowl of hot cereal such as grits, oatmeal or cream of wheat sweetened with a little honey.
Other good choices: whole-grain waffles with fruit, an egg white or egg substitute omelet, or scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon or lean ham.
For the next 2 Sundays Jan 22 and 29, I will be handing out 2016 contribution statements for your taxes. Handing them out as opposed to mailing them out reduces postage costs. So if you see me walking around with a box with envelopes, please flag me down and get your statement.
If you have questions, just let me know. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
