Nick is the Treasurer of the Pontelandolfo Community Club, a position he has held for many years. He is also the chairman of the Club’s scholarship committee and served previously as its Financial Secretary. Nick served as a member of the Waterbury Board of Alderman from 1989-1996 and as its liaison to the Waterbury Inland/Wetlands Commission. He also served as the president of St. Lucy’s Parish Council and as a member of the Waterbury Palace Theater Development Committee. He also served as a member of the Waterbury UNICO Club, chairing the Waterbury Italian Mayor for the Day event in honor of Columbus Day for several years. Nick has been honored for his work in the community by the Waterbury Jaycees with their Community Service Award and by the Waterbury Republican Town Committee with the Mayor Raymond E. Snyder Award for Excellence in Public Service and by the Waterbury Boys and Girls Club with their Community Service Award. Nick and his wife Mary Lou live in Marion, CT and are the proud parents of Mark and Lauren. Welcome back from the Summer. I am so proud to serve you again as President. I am so enthusiastic about all the events coming up this year. October, Italian Heritage Month, is full of activities. On Friday, Oct. 5th, we will be hosting the “Italian Mayor for the Day” celebration. This year’s winner will be Nick Rinaldi. Please join us to celebrate this very deserving candidate. If you can’t make the mass, flag raising and luncheon, consider attending at least the mass at 9a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. It always is a worthwhile event with great singers. Then we will be celebrating our 90th Birthday on Sunday, Oct. 21st at the Aqua Turf. The committee has been very active collecting ads for our souvenir journal for this event and dinner tickets returns are coming in. Businesses are being asked to advertise but our own members are encouraged to place an ad also. The event is going to be big! We will have Marty Q providing us with great music for dancing and our National President Dave Doninni will be attending from California. This year, the “CT Meet the President” will be combined with our 90th party so our President won’t have to fly back to the East Coast. This means a lot of CT chapters will be attending so I would like a very good showing from our Waterbury Chapter. After all, we are the “Birthplace of Unico”. On November 27th we are planning a Memorial Mass for all our deceased members at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6p.m. followed by our regular meeting in the Church Hall (the meeting will be catered by Richard Lanza). Please invite all the families of deceased members to come and participate. My goal for this year is to try new things. I thank all our members who agreed to serve on all the new committees. I encourage all committee chairs to come up with new ideas and implement them. I also would like to increase our membership. Our National Membership Chair asked me to challenge every member to bring in 1 new member. This would double our membership. Invite your friends to one of our meetings. Help me to keep the Waterbury Chapter a strong and vibrant chapter! Thanks for all your help.
