AND THE RICH GET RICHER … Received several emails from people advising us to check out www.Youtube.com for the video of Jay Leno’s test drive and comments concerning the C-X75 Jaguar concept car. He does not drive it fast, and it is on the street outside the former aircraft hangars at the Burbank, CA airport where he houses his car collection and restoration operation. Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director, personally shows the car to him in the video that is available at the below URL. Jay makes several nice comments, but does not refer to the item on page 12 of this newsletter about Jaguar teaming with Williams F1 to produce a limited edition of these cars for the well heeled collectors and sportsmen of the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVi5Zjkxaek

Don and Rose Snyder traveled to Richmond, VA, for XKExperience and to get his trophy presented to him by none other than Jaguar Legend Norman Dewis. A little advice about transfer of title for old cars or project cars in Texas (Harris County) & insurance: By Ebbe Christensen of the Jaguar Club of Houston

As most of you know, I bought my E-type project in the Christmas days of 2006 (wow, yes, it is that long ago and it is still not done, SCARY), and I of course had the seller sign the original 1966 title. Since I knew I would not need license plates for the car in the very near future I just kept the title and would do the transfer whenever I was ready to get the car on the road. I furthermore got some ill advice when calling the tax office back then, as they confirmed that I needed to do the transfer when I was ready to get license plates. First mistake, and it would turn out I made another big mistake, so let me share all this with the club membership. The rules are pretty clear as far as titling a car, and I was well aware of the need to do the title transfer of a car within 20 days, I have done that many times when trading modern (drivable) cars. However, even if a car is in boxes and years from hitting the road again, the exact same rules apply. If you don’t transfer within the 20 days, you are automatically fined with 10% of the tax amount. If you exceed it “significantly” - an element of interpretation – they will fine you with 10% of the tax due PER MONTH until you title the car. An example: You buy a car project for $ 10,000 in 2006 and don’t get the title transfer done immediately, sort of forget all about it, and here in May 2011 you’re ready to do the transfer, here’s what will happen: Sales tax 6.25% of $ 10,000: $ 625.00 Various fees $ 33,00 (title application fee etc.) 10% fine for late transfer $ 62.50 Tax and fees $ 720.50 Fine for excessive late transfer 52 months x $ 62.50 $ 3,250 Total tax, fees and fine $ 3,970.50 (vs. had you done it within 20 days $ 658.00 = difference of $ 3,312.50) - even for an E-type, you can buy a lot of parts for $ 3,312.50…..! In my case I was lucky that the tax office allowed me toplead my case, so I got off the hook with just paying the one time 10% late-fee, and saved three grand. A friend, who bought a car project last year made me aware of all this, as in his case the tax office would not deviate from the rules and he ended up paying the late 10% fee, - times 11 months ! So, no matter the condition of the car/project or when you plan on getting the car on the road, DO the title transfer within the 20 days of purchase, - don’t wait and let it be up to your negotiation skills later…! As far as insurance and license plates, you just fill out another form where you postpone those steps, and only perform the title transfer. When you’re ready to get license plates on the car, you bring you title, proof of insurance and they will issue new license plates and charge you for the sticker. The second mistake I made was to not have made a certified copy of the original title in due time. My car had the original title from 1966, the very first and only time the car had been titled, and I would have loved to keep this 1966 title, as a part of the car’s docu-mentation. However, when you transfer the title you have to turn in the old title, and there’s no way you can have it back, even with a VOID stamp or similar. I pleaded for half an hour to give it back to me, but they could not do it, although they werevery under-standing. They did offer me the alternative that I could have a certified copy made of the title and use that for the transfer, but it would require the signature and consent of the seller, and since I have lost contact with the seller’s estate, this was not an option. So, reluctantly I had to let go of the original title, they were kind enough to make me a nice photo copy of it, but that was it. A last and final thing, I would like to mention is insurance related to car projects. I found out through Hagerty that for a very mode-stamount, they will insure any non-drivable car project at whatever amount (within reason, of course) you want to insure it for. Your normal home insurance do not cover a car project, so if you have a fire, water or wind damage OR theft, you’re not covered (opposite your tools and work shop stuff , which is covered under the home insurance). So, in my case I have the E-type fully insured for a sizeable amount for about a mere hundred dollars a year. Finally, last year we suffered a total loss of our workshop in the com-pany to a fire (started next door), and that experience taught me what a difference a few pictures can make: Take pictures of your tools, your drawers, your shelves, everything. Hopefully the day will never come, but it you have to sit down and list every single item you have, from screw drivers to sockets, - after it is gone in a fire - you will loose money, trust me. Same precautions goes for all your other belongings actually. So, I am taking a lot pictures, have bought an external hard drive (much less prone to loss of data than a CD etc), stored all the pictures in two separate files, and copied all on CD’s. I keep the hard drive at a friend’s house, and the CD’s in a third place. There are also web based off-site storage services that does the same job for a minimal fee per year. So, maybe most members already know these things, but if not 1) Do the title transfer within 20 days also on car projects 2) Use a certified copy if you want to keep the originaltitle, and have one made at the time you buy the car and have contact to the seller 3) Insure you car project as it is not covered under your home insurance As for my E-type, the engine is 80% done, the body is ready for paint, so we’re moving forward, - but slooowly…!

CX-75 LIMITED PRODUCTION - ala XJ220!

First seen at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, Jaguar's technical tour de force - the C-X75 concept - is readying for production, and is said to go on sale sometime in 2013. Jaguar has formed a partnership with the Williams F1 team, which will provide the car with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This highly advanced engine will power most of the 250 road-going C-X75s, leaving the intriguing gas turbine system seen in the show car available to only a lucky few. The 1.6-litre Williams-developed engine is related to the F1 engine the team is developing for the 2013 season. It is said to rev to 10,000 rpm, and along with the two electric motors will produce around 900bhp. It will directly drive the rear wheels, with the electric motors sending power to whichever wheel has the most grip available, using a torque-vectoring system.

The lightweight carbon fibre chassis will help to keep the weight down, and Jaguar claims the supercar will do 0-60mph in less than 3.0 seconds and 0-100mph in less than 6.0 seconds, hitting a top speed well in excess of 200mph. As well as being incredibly fast, the C-X75 can also be relatively green. Running in economy mode, the hybrid car will emit just 70g/km of CO2 and it can also run on battery power for up to 30 miles, with the option of plugging into the mains to recharge the lithium-ion batteries.

Williams F1 boss, Sir Frank Williams said: 'This association with Jaguar Land Rover provides us with an incredible opportunity to work with one of the world's most iconic brands. Williams has always considered itself an engineer-ing company so this project will allow us to create something truly exceptional.'

TEXAS JAGUAR SPRING FLING 2011— One of the sights on this year’s meeting of all the Texas Jaguar Clubs was the Red Caboose Winery in Meridian in Bosque County on Saturday. Your news-letter editor’s great grandfather owned the first auto-mobile in Bosque County, a chain drive Metz made in Waltham, MA. In the bottom right photo, Steve and Ginette Ramirez of SAJC enjoyed tasting the wine at the Red Caboose. In the below photo, David Nichols of JOASW is placing the cover on his XJS convertible top outside the winery store. At the winery for lunch, we had a skunk that seemed to want to join our group, since he already sprayed the dog!

Any JCNA member wanting to take advantage of this exclusive program needs to inform their dealer that he/she wants to take ad-vantage of the Jaguar New Car Variable Marketing Program #306. Please contact your local dealer for more information. JD Powers recognized Jaguar Cars as Most Reliable Automobile. Jaguar has entered the Ameri-can Le Mans for the 2011 season.

Jaguar Cars – JCNA Liaison Report: Gary Kincel reports that the relationship between Jaguar Cars and JCNA is very good. If you have a question or request, Gary is the primary point of contact.

Clubs requesting sponsorship must submit their request to the JCNA Administrator by February 28th of each year and the Club Contact Page must be up to date before the request for sponsorship will be considered. Up-to-date contact information must be on the club page for at least the club president, vice president and treas-urer.

Treasurer Report: Total income for the past year is $294,597. Total expenses were $336,738. Financial Health: JCNA is currently operating in the red. For the year ended 12/31/09 the loss was approxi-mately $17,140 and based on the 2010 preliminary results we expect to have another loss this year likely to be $37,642 of which $27,848 is a one time inventory adjustment.

The most recent dues increase was at the 2006 AGM when dues for JCNA were increased from $20.00 to $22.00 per year. We may need to consider an increase to support our financial needs at some future point.

Balance Sheet Comment: On the previous balance sheet JCNA carried items noted as “Inventories” which include: publications, regalia, trophies, national awards, and leaper material. The balance was just over $58,000 on 3/31/2010. A complete inventory and update of this entry has been completed with D. Kennedy as Administrative Manager. Based on that result, an expense will be booked to year-end 2010 in the amount of $27,848.

JCNA Shoppe: Through the efforts of George Camp and Steve Kennedy and with the support from our Web-master, the JCNA shop has made a tremendous leap forward this past year. Total sales were $36,645 compared to near $2,000 for the previous year. With a solid structure now in place, this will continue to be another great benefit to the membership.

Concours Protest Committee Report: Knick Curtis reports that there were four formal protests filed for the 2010 concours season. Two were regarding the fact that judges did not fill in the comment section of the score sheet where it said “If C&C deductions are made, this section must not be left blank.” Note: this term has since been changed from Must to Should at the 2011 AGM. One protest was filed for a deduction for not having front license plate bracket on his Series III E-Type. Rules state that it need not be mounted, but must be correct and displayed with the car. Protest was denied. Protest for non-authenticity deduction for color of the headlamp “sugar scoops” on a Series I E-type. It was the responsibility of the entrant to provide documentation regarding the color of the headlamp sugar scoops. Protest was denied.
