Truth is the power which can lead our life towards Shri Sai. Truth is

beautiful, bright, and eternal. It remains in our core of existence and

is always silent as it does not need a voice. Being truthful is a great

tool to attain spiritual knowledge.

Shri Sai always practiced truth in his teachings. He is always practi-

cal and realistic with His devotees. He always advises His devotees

to speak truth. He is Antargyani and can identify if anybody told a lie

to Him. Being untruthful does not work for our Sadguru and takes us

away from Him.

The way to be truthful depends on how we examine ourselves in the

present state and modulate our life based on the teachings of our Sad-

guru. This will help us understand ourselves better and let us work on

our strengths. Being truthful also means taking full responsibility for

your actions and make your decisions with the blessing of Shri Sai.

Admit if you make any mistakes and set the goals in life towards

Guru in the path of wisdom. This can completely block wrong atti-

tudes and negative thinking.

On this Thursday, learn the truth, live in truth, open the heart and let

your life be filled with love, and then you will experience absolute

joy, peace and the blessings of Shri Sai.

1911 7 December Thursday, Shirdi.

I slept well last night. My son &wife are doing well with Bhishma. Vishnu is also here. We fed a good many people today & I fell into the proper routine of the place. I saluted Baba Sayin Maharaj as he went out. Then after he returned to the Masjid, and again in the evening & later on again when he went to sleep in the Chavadhi. The Bhajanpujana was a little less, as some fools object to music. After we returned from Sheja-Arti, Bhishma had his usual Bhajana, & Mr Thosar also sang some verses, a few of his own composition & others of Kabir, Das Ganu & others. Das Ganu ’s wife, Bayu who was here last year, is now at her father’s house. We sat talking till late at night. Bapusaheb jog told me in the morning, that after I went away last year, the Commissioner & the Collector came to see Sayin Maharaj. He would not let them into the Masjid. They waited at the Chavadhi. Sayin Maharaj saw them as he went out & looked at them through a sort of a telescope made by folding the fingers of his hand. They wished to speak with him. He asked them to wait for two hours. They did not wait, but went leaving ten Rupees for Daxina. Sayin Maharaj did not like to keep the money & gave it away. Madhavarao Deshpande told us at night that Dada Kelkar had a son by name Babu. Sayin Maharaj was very kind to him. This Babu died & Maharaj remembers him to this day. Mr Moreshwar Vishwanath Pradhan Barrister at Law, practising at Bombay came to see Sayin Maharaj. On seeing his wife Sayin Maharaj said that she was the mother Babu. She got in the family way later on, & on the day of her delivery in Bombay, Sayin Maharaj here said he had pain, & that twins would be born, & that one of them would die. So it happened & when Mrs Pradhan came here with her young son Sayin Maharaj took him on his lap & asked if he would come to the place & the child of two months distinctly answered “How.”

The priest who first invited Sai as “AAo Sai” was poor all his life. Mahalsapathi who was

always with Baba was given only food, clothes and very little money to survive with his

family. Once a rich devotee offered to give him lots of money, but Baba asked him not to

accept it. The reason is, Mahalsapathi’s ancestors or himself would have done so much

of sins in past births and Baba wants him to wash away the karma in that birth itself.

Rest assured when Mahalsapathi lost his life, he would have reached the holy feets of

our Shri Sai. Sai has his own way to treat and give to devotees what they deserve,

So when you or your friend or your relatives are suffering from severe health problems

and if you are wondering wondering why baba dint helped them , understand the fact.

sShirdi Sai is also like our real mother who can give us medicines in the form of his

blessings but each one is blessed in a different way.

DEVOTEES EXPERIENCE SaiRam,

I want to share some of the experiences of Sai baba. After a gap of 20 years I wish to

place before Sai devotees a very unimaginable incident. I wanted to publish this long

before but I did not know the ways. I am completely illiterate about this platform. I think

this may be Sai prerna to write this. Sitting in Tokyo I am writing this. There are many

incidents I want to write.

My family had to see very bad days during last 8 years. Our nature, of helping the

needed and innocently believing the people, send us to such place of poverty, loss of

everything, our respect. We suffered a lot, our own people were not showing any sympa-

thy, instead keeping a distance. Only our 2 children were the pillars to our life. We

thought that what we are doing is correct, because Sai is with us. But Sai did not correct

this. His only blessing to us was that our children’s education did not suffer.

The bad days came to an end after some time. My husband took VRS and opted to take

some rest. By that time our daughter completed her engineering and joined Infosys. Af-

ter sometime, my son also completed his studies and joined TCS. We thought after the

cyclone, we got good and peaceful days. I also decided to leave job and to enjoy a

peaceful life. It is my family’s belief that Sai is with us to take care of us. But destiny not

allowed this. And contrary to my belief, on 16th June 2007, early in the morning, my hus-

Sai appeared as a soldier in the Navy and said: 1. Do we stop sailing in the sea thinking that tides of water would engulf

and drown us? In the same way we might have misunderstandings with our colleagues yet. We should march ahead ignoring them.

2. Do not grieve or interfere in mistakes committed by others. The law of natural justice will take it’s own course.

It is natural to commit mistakes without exception.

band expired by cardiac arrest, within 15 minutes without giving some time for us to reach doctor. I begged with Sai, to

save my husband. But he did not listen. He gave him very peaceful painless Moksha and pushed me into dark, to cry. I

don’t know why Sai could not give me happiness for a few years.

Now the responsibility of our daughter’s marriage was on me, and I had to finish it as early as possible. Otherwise I had to

wait for another 3 years. We had finalized the marriage with the boy of my daughter’s choice, of very nice family. The

marriage was fixed to be held on 10th Feb. 2008 Sunday at Vaishnavi Sabha Bhavan Manipal (Udupi). Because all our

relatives reside in this area and they took the responsibility of all work. Tears were rolling from my eyes constantly, with-

out my beloved husband by my side, still everything was going smoothly as if somebody has already done it for us. My

two children were the courage for me.

I, with children, was to leave Mumbai for Udupi on Monday, 6 days before the function. On Sunday night we finished our

luggage packing and about to go to sleep. By then we got a phone call from my co sister from my native place, telling that

our mother-in-law who is 80 years old, jumped into the well, consequent upon a quarrel with her younger son and daugh-

ter –in-law with whom she was staying in family house. She also told to postpone the marriage and to stop all proceed-

ings of ceremony. In our native place, every house has a deep well about 60 meters deep. Our well is also very deep and

in winter, it contains nearly 20-23 feet water, that is too very cold. It is a common belief and fact that if somebody falls or

jumps in well will not survive. Here, the lady is over 80 years old and nothing like chance of survival. It was 10.30 pm and

very dark everywhere and impossible to take the dead body out till next morning. One can imagine my position very well.

My entire relatives, well wishers, shell shocked and started the further proceeding of postponement of marriage. Message

reached my would be son in law who was then in USA and about to start next day. My children were crying constantly.

But this time, unlike during the time of my husband’s death, I kept quiet, simply looking at the photo of Sai, telling him that

you are playing very rudely with my life. Now I won’t plead before you, you do whatever you want to do. If you want to

punish me, you punish but why you are punishing my daughter? I told my children to stop crying and to utter sai naam

because there was nothing in our hands.

One hour passed, then we received a phone call again from my brother, very unimaginable and, surprisingly, he told that

somebody with the help of torch, saw that the old lady is alive into that deep water and in standing position, just like

somebody is supporting her from drowning. They had already called Fire brigade and it was to reach after some time. He

also told still we cannot think positively, though this is a miracle.

Baba‟s Close Devotees

Continued from last issue…..

Justice M. B. Rege

Some eight years back I went to Dakshineswar to see the places and

things of interest. I got the service of a local man to act as my cicerone

and he showed me the Kali figure that Paramahamsa worshipped and

other images. I looked at Kali standing outside the worship room and

passed on. I was anxious to see the tiny image of Ramlal that sported as

a living boy with Paramahamsa, and told my guide to show me Ramlal.

He took me to one of the temples and showed me a huge image and

said "This is Ramlal." I said it could not be. The man replied that he as

the local man should know and that I, as a stranger, could not possibly

be better informed. I had to apologise and I wondered what to think of

the 'Ramlal', I had read about him in Paramahamsa's life. Just at this

juncture, a pujari of these temples came and inquired if I was from Dec-

can. I replied I was. Then he said he would show me round Kali and

every other image at close quarters and with full details. I said I had

just seen them. Then he insisted on my visiting them again. He did not

want any money from me. The reason for his persistant request was that

he had been instructed in a dream overnight that a devotee from Deccan

would be coming on the following day and that he was to take him to

all the images and help him to worship them. Thus assured, I followed

him. He took me inside the Garbhagriha, the holy of holies of Kali and

said I was free to touch the image and worship as I liked. Next he said

that he would show me Ramlal. I said I had been shown a huge figure

as Ramlal by my guide. The pujari rated my cicerone for deceiving me

and then took up the tiny image of Ramlal that Paramahamsa had

played with and placed it on my lap. Thus all my expectations were ful-

filled beyond measure - all through the grace of Sai who is no other

than Ramakrishna.

The great favour Sainath had conferred on me by taking me so close to him and loving me

and by my loving him, had its reflections in the way in which some eminent living saints

treated me.

Madhava Nath Maharaj often seen at Poona and elsewhere (who passed away a month or

two back) was seen by me in 1927. Maharaj without being told of me, spotted out my con-

nection with Sai and said I was Sai Baba's man. He narrated to me the exact words that

passed between me and Baba at our first interview; and he added that he was then present,

i.e., of course in invisible spirit form, or as Sai Baba.

Here is another interesting tale from the collection of Panchatantra. Once upon a

time, there stood a huge banyan tree on the outskirts of a small village. In this, tree

there lived a pair of crows with their young ones. One day, a snake came to live in

the hole at the bottom of the tree. The crows were not happy at the arrival of the

snake, but they could do nothing.

After a few days, the female crow hatched a few

more eggs and some more baby crows were born.

When the crows went out in search of food, the

snake crawled up the tree and ate up the babies.

When the crows came back, they could notlocate

their babies. They chased high and low, but to no

avail. The crows were full of grief on the sad loss

of their young ones.

After a few months, the female crow hatched

some more eggs. This time female crow stayed in the nest while the male crow

went out in search of food. The snake was greedy and ignoring the presence of the

female crow, he crept up the tree and attacked the babies. The female crow who

was keeping a watchful eye on her babies, tried to fight with the snake, but she

was weak. Hearing the shriek of the female craw, other crows came to help her,

but the snake had already eaten the young ones and slithered back into his hole.

This killing became the feature of their life. Every time the crows laid their eggs,

the snake crawled up the tree and ate all the young ones. Due to this, the crows

were never able to raise their young ones. The crows were sad, but they didn’t

know how to get free from this killer snake.

One day, the female crow asked the male crow that she wanted to leave this tree at

once. The male crow consoled her by saying that the tree had been their home

from the past many years and they should reside here. He considered of asking a

wise fox for help in order to get rid of the snake. With this thought, both of them

went to the place of the wise fox. The fox welcomed her friends and said, “Both of

T H E G L O R Y O F S H I R D I S A I

Page 9: Volume 2011-15

you seem to be very sad. What happened? “

The crows replied, “We are in a big problem. A snake is after us and he eats up

our eggs and the young ones. We seek your help in this matter.” They narrated

the whole story to the fox. The fox was intelligent; she thought for a few min-

utes and then laid out a brilliant plan before them. She said, “Listen carefully

and do it as per the plan. In the morning, go to the river bank where the ladies of

the royal family would be bathing. They keep their ornaments in a tray on the

river bank. The guards keep a watch on them from a distance”.

The fox suggested the crows to pick up a necklace from the tray and fly away

making a loud noise. This would make the guards to chase them to the tree

where the crows would drop the necklace into the hole of the snake. In order to

get the necklace, the guards would kill the snake to save themselves and take the

necklace. The crows liked the plan and swore to execute it the next morning.

So, the next morning, the crows were

ready with their plan. The crow couple

flew to the river bank; the female crow

picked up the necklace and flew off.

While, the male crow shrieked loudly to

attract the guards’ attention. The guards

ran after the crows brandishing their sticks

and swords. Soon, they reached the banyan

tree where they saw the crows dropping

the necklace into the snake hole.

As the guards were trying to take the necklace out with the help of a stick, the

snake came out of the hole. The snake hissed at them and afraid of him, they

killed the snake by sticks and swords. They took the necklace and returned to

their place. The crows were happy to see the sight from a distance. They thanked

the fox for her help. Thereafter, the crow couple lived happily with their young

ones in the banyan tree.

Moral: Intelligence is greater than strength.

Baba's Passing Away

Though it is not possible for us to see Baba's form now,

still if we go to Shirdi, we shall find His beautiful life-

like portrait adorning the masjid. This has been drawn by

Shamrao Jaykar, a famous artist and well-known devotee

of Baba. To an imaginative and devout spectator this por-

trait can give even to-day the satisfaction of taking

Baba's darshana. Though Baba has no body now, He

lives there and everywhere, and will effect the welfare of the devotees

even now as He was doing before when He was embodied. Saints like

Baba never die, though they look like men, they are in reality God

Himself.

Sai Ram.

Keeping the desire of His devotees to see Him in a

more solid three dimensional form, Baba allowed

His marble idol to be made and kept in the Samadhi

Mandir. The portrait that Shri Hemadpant is refer-

ring to is now kept in Dwarakamai. Also recall how

Sai recalled His connection with another devotee

who bowed to His photo a few years before he came

to Shirdi for having darshan of Sai, thus indicating

that He is One with His photo and name!

Chapter 36: The Value of Human Birth

Continued from the previous issue…

Sri Sai Baba said: Love all creatures. Do not fight with anybody, nor retaliate, nor scan-dalize anyone. If any one talks against you, pass on unperturbed. His words cannot pierce into your body. Other acts will affect them alone and not you. It is only your own acts that will affect you. Return not evil for evil. Return good for evil.

Love is to swell up from one’s heart and is to induce similar ebullition of love in other’s hearts, which it contacts and then flows into the deep and the result is blissful oneness. It is hatred that separates man from man. It is pride and egoism that divide one from another. Hatred, pride and egoism are only our mental creations which are the prod-ucts of our ignorance. Just as darkness is dispelled by the rays of the Sun, so also jeal-ousy and hatred are dispelled by the rays of Divine Love. Lip sympathy cannot take us towards cosmic love.

Pure love alone can purity the heart and liberate one from grief, pain, fear and dark-ness and lead him on to attainment. The path of love is not a mood or temperament nor an outburst of emotionalism. It is the animating force.
