On Tuesday,
May 9, the Na-
tional Honor Soci-
ety held their In-
duction Ceremony
for new members.
Aanika Ander-
son, Autum Bitzan,
Josey Ness, and
Christian Norby
are the four new members in National Honor Society. For next year
Jacey Schlosser is the new President, Michael Van Santen is the new
VP, Amber Smith is the new Secretary, and Dane Ellingson is the
new Treasurer.
This year some of the
new members have al-
ready participated in
things like the Blood
Drive that was on
Wednesday, May 10.
Also National Honor So-
ciety will also be helping
arrange this year’s Day of
Caring.
This year’s Day of Caring
will be held on Wednesday, May
24. This will be 2 days before the
school year is done. As always
Ashby students will go out into
the community and help out with
jobs to improve and clean up
Ashby. We, the students, will be
doing jobs around
Ashby in the
Assisted Living
Center, in the
Ashby School
helping with the
Stage, Library,
Gardening, Art
room, the computer lab, or help-
ing clean up the play ground.
I am going to talk about the
senior class trip. The class went to
Mount Olympus in Wisconsin
Dells for the weekend. If you
don’t know anything about Wis-
consin Dells it is a water and
theme park in Wisconsin.
It was a six hour bus trip
there. We left right after school
last Friday and came back on
Monday around five in the after-
noon. We went on a jet boat ad-
venture, bowling, and had pizza at
Chalet Lanes. It was fun spending
this time together as a class!

Iron Maiden’s Fear of the
Dark turns 25
Released on May 11, 1992,
Iron Maiden was a band in serious
need of a creative boost. Their
second album, since co-founder
guitarist Adrian Smith left, in-
cluded such songs as the title
track Fear of the Dark and The
Fugitive.
Snapchat has just introduced
some exciting new features! Be-
fore you read any further, get your
Snapchat ready so we can enjoy
this new update together.
In a press release, Snapchat
stated the new features would
serve to reduce frustration and
increase creativity. That's right.
Along with a new “Magic Eraser”
and “Loop” tool, Snapchat is
giving users the option to create
“limitless snaps”! Though it kind
of defeats the initial purpose of
Snapchat, at least we won't have
to use screenshots.
I’m trying to see the good in
this, but I just find it weird that
Snapchat would just get rid of
their initial concept!
Top ten things to do this sum-
mer...

2. Traveling...
3. Bonfires...
4. Jumping on a trampoline!
5. Go star gazing.
6. Hang out with your friends and
family.
7. Listen to music.
8. Go tubing, play pool, play
beach volleyball.
9. Go camping.
10. Have Fun!

Louis Armstrong , aka
Satcho, Pops, and Ambassador
Satch, was born in New Orleans,
Louisiana on August 4, 1891. His
father was a factory worker that
left him as soon as he was born
along with his mother. He was
raised by his grandma. He had to
begin working after completing
the fifth grade by delivering coal.
In 1912 he fired off his stepfa-
thers gun in the air during New
Year’s Eve and was sent to the
Colored Waif’s Home for Boys
for shooting it. That’s where he
discovered his love for music and
went on to become Joe “King”
Oliver’s apprentice.
In 1918 he married Daisy
Parker. They adopted a three year
old boy from his cousin. His first
recorded solo was “Chimes
Blues” with Oliver in April, 1923.
In 1936, he became the first Afri-
can American Jazz musician to
write an autobiography.
Armstrong died in his sleep
on July 6, 1971 at his home in
Queens, New York.

The Dark
Secrets Books
by Elizabeth
Chandler are a
new series of
books in the
library that I
can not seem
to put down.
The Dark Secrets books are
more of the mysterious type of
books where you read about the
characters solving murders that
have happened to people close to
their family or in the family.
Some of these murders have hap-
pened from 1 year ago to 50 years
ago. Along with mysteries these
books also contain some magic
and crazy over protective fami-
lies.
Once I started these books I
knew that I would not be able to
put them down.
Nick Burkhardt of the Port-
land Police Department is a
Grimm and is assigned to protect
the people in Wesen from mytho-
logical creatures like Blutbad and
Fuchsbau. Before Nick can start
hunting these creatures he has to
figure out which ones are his
friends and which are his en-
emy's. Eventually he finds Mon-
roe who is a Blutbad and Rosalie
who is a Fuchsbau. These two
and some others help Nick and
his partner Hank solve Wesen
based crimes that normal cops
would never be able to solve.
If you want to watch this
show it is on the FOX channel or
you may have to buy them or rent
them from the Viking Library
System since Grimm is not on
Netflix.

G-Eazy’s real name is Gerald
Earl Gillum. This American rap-

Oakland, California made a first
major label album called These

on the US Billboard 200.
G–Eazy was not really popu-

and I came out which reached the
top 10 of the US Billboard Hot
100.
G-Eazy has not had an easy
life. His mother left his father.
Gillum decided to move in with
his grandparents. He ended up
accepting his mom and grew close
to her. His mother was dating a
woman names Melissa Mills. He
became even closer to Mills. Later
on G-Eazy came home one day
and found Mills dead on the floor
from an overdose on her depres-
sion pills. He tells about this ex-
perience in the last verse of Eve-
rything Will Be Ok on his third
album.

A good ice cream shop to
road trip to this summer would be
Granny’s Pantry in Battle Lake,
MN.
Granny’s Pantry has a huge
assortment of ice-cream, salt wa-
ter taffy, fudge, and other types of
candy.
One of the main reasons my
family travels up there is because
of their homemade cones. We
went up to Granny’s one time,
and one of the workers was mak-
ing cones in the window for eve-
ryone to see. It was a great to see
that people still care so much
about their costumers.
Another reason we go up
there is because my mom is a
huge fan of salt
water taffy. They
have every flavor
that you can think
of! If you’re not
into ice-cream or
candy they have a
decent selection of fudge too.
It’s a very popular place to go
during the summer. If you’re in
the area make sure you swing in
and grab a scoop or two of your
favorite kind of ice cream or
candy!

All you need for this easy no-
bake granola bar snack is: 2 cups of oatmeal
1/2 cup sliced almonds 1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup agave
2 Tbsp of coconut oil 2 tsp of vanilla extract
1/2 tsp of salt
1 cup of chocolate chips (or more) Nutella
Spray an 8x8” dish with
cooking spray and preheat your
oven to 325. On a baking sheet,
spread the oats, coconut and al-
monds. Put in the oven for 15-18
min or until golden. While you're
waiting, combine the brown
sugar, agave, coconut oil, vanilla
and salt and cook over medium
heat until combined. Then, pour
toasted oat mixture into the sauce-
pan and mix everything together.
Pour into the sprayed dish and
press down so it’s even and push
down so they stay together. Driz-
zle melted chocolate chips or
nutella over the top and let cool.
What you need for this simple
summer craft is: Q-tips
Yellow Play Dough Green Pipe Cleaner
Construction Paper
First you can go ahead and cut
all of the Q–tips in half. Roll the
yellow play dough into a ball with
your hands. Once you form a ball,
slightly flatten it between the
palms of your hands. Put the Q-
tips into the play dough all around
the outside with the cotton part
sticking out. Next poke a green
pipe cleaner into the side of your
play dough to form your stem.

The traditional Yearbook sign-
ing Party was held on Wednesday,
May 17 in the cafeteria. Students
got friends signatures and shared
memories of the school year. The
senior class dedicated the 2017 Ar-
row to Mrs. Umlauf.
Great job to head editor Skyler
Hill and assistant Mikayla Dahlen
on creating the best yearbook ever!
