OVERVIEW

Vandemataram foundation is a registered Community develop-ment organization working for child rights through the schools for abetter India. It was on the eve of the Centenary year (2005) of theVandemataram Movement that the Foundation was launched.

Vandemataram Foundation has been at the forefront of Childrights and School Empowerment with grass root level interactions andright to Information campaigns.

India Vision 2020! With literacy rate of 61% national average andranked at the bottom of Human Development Index, does it soundpossible at least near to possibility?

"A developed India by 2020 is possible only through peo-ple's participation and children are the nucleus of this transfor-mation" - Sri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, doesn't it seem hopefully bet-ter?

This is what has motivated the Foundation to fight for thechild rights and contribute its mite in the India 2020 vision of SriA.P.J. Abdul Kalam. With a total of 600 volunteers toiling day inand day out selfless the mission seems to be in the range of sight. But we know we have a long way to go. That is why we appealto all of you to join us …

The foundation with the inspiration of Sri Abdul Kalamformer President of India (July 2002 -July 2007) is working for thebetterment of children and their education. A new freedom strug-gle this time against the poverty and illiteracy is influencing 120schools in interior 10 mandals of Warangal and 7 mandals ofMahabubnagar District. The dropout rate has fallen steep down andthe attendance of teachers climbing up, the performance of school as aunit is spreading smiles.

BACKGROUND

A School is a place where each one of us have learnt to live andgraduated in to the world to become what we are today and what webecome tomorrow. The simple word "My school" sends most of us,rather all of us tumbling down the memory lane with loads of nostal-gic images and childhood playfulness.

Over 79% of the out-of-school children belong to the rural areas,SC/ST children account for nearly 11.5 % of the total out-of-school chil-dren. The most common cause for remaining out of school was due tohousehold work, taking care of siblings and working to improve thefamily income. The drop-out rates in Mahabubnagar, Medak,Warangal, Nizamabad (above 50%) and Nalgonda (above 40%) arevery high and needs urgent attention. The Dropout rate wavers from19 % to 36% depending up on the class and poverty level of the child'sfamily.

NEEDThe general level of infrastructure in the Govt. run schools can beimproved with social participation.Parents and social interaction will be helpful to teachers. Foundation plays a vital role in student’s allround development. And it has been proved beyond doubt that the performance levelshave been improving since the foundation's intervention. The general dropout rate of the children (35 % - 40%) has been at analarmingly rising levels.Community participation only can make any project sustainableand the foundation is toiling for it.Increased levels of community participation in 100 villages taken upby Vandemaataram foundation have yielded results both in termsof infrastructure, performances in teachers and students as well. There is a need for awareness and capacity building both among the

Parents, teachers and the Community at large. The children deserve better tomorrow and schools are the basic

building blocks. We need to strengthen them.

BENEFICIARIESThe Children poor and vulnerable who otherwise will end up

as child labour. Both School going as well as dropouts and the never to school

children will benefit as the foundation is trying to bring everychild out o school to school, and every child in the school to bet-ter performance.

The teachers who will have a chance to upgrade themselvesand perform their duties better.

The community as whole as the school is the cornerstone of thesociety. As the foundation will be organizing Aluminii meets and

other such programmes that would support the long run sustain-ability of the school infrastructure.

Vandemataram FoundationEmpowering School Children

We have studied the cause of backwardness and less result ofGovt. Schools and collected the words and voices of thousands of stu-dents. Lack of resources. Shortage of teaching faculty and scarcity ofgood study material are major problems faced by the children whichled them to score poor marks in public exams. Though they are capa-ble, intelligent and enthusiastic they are unable to compete against cor-porate schools due to above problems. And because of this they areloosing opportunities of higher studies in prestigious institutions.Since last two years VMF designed "All in one" study material withcomplete information regarding all the six subjects. We have done thisjob with our own economy and with the co-operation of well experi-enced faculty, who worked for six months.

We have distributed these materials of 915 pages to 9000 stu-dents in 150 schools, spending. Hence We appeal to thedonors to come forward to support the poor students. Withyour kind support the children can score better and theycan get the opportunities in corporate colleges and freeeducation in their intermediate.

Foundation distributed "Vijetha Study Mate" books in50 schools every month to reach 3000 students. Thesebooks are customized for foundation to give characteralong with study

1857... 150 years celebration in MBNR

The true spirit of Indian Indepence moment can’t be observedmuch in present day generation. Though all the educational institu-tions are organising functions on national days, the question how farthe children are aware of national moment, and the question howmany of them have patriotism... are still un-answerable.

Vandemataram Foundation took the responsibility of makingthe children aware of our great moment for Independence. Many activ-ities are being organised at various Government. Schools.

Not limiting to the independence and republic days, many otherevents like Birthdays of our leaders etc., are also oberved in schools bythe foundation.
