3. Installation and wiring

3.1 General safetyThis equipment is constructed, produced and tested according to the laws of the Mem-ber States relating to Machinery directive (98/37/EC), EMC-directive (89/336/EEC) as well as the LVD (73/23/EEC).

MOTOMAN Robotics Europe AB’s responsibility does not cover errors or safety risks that may occur in equipment connected to the MOTOMAN Robotics Europe AB machine, nor errors or safety risks that may occur in the machine caused by equip-ment connected to the MOTOMAN Robotics Europe AB’s machine.

The MOTOMAN Robotics Europe AB's machine must not be put into service until the complete production unit correspond to the laws of the Member States relating to machinery (98/37/EC).

External cables must be connected according to recommendations in this manual.

The machine must only be operated by specially trained persons.

3.2 Installation

3.2.1 Installation safety

Warning! Install the safeguarding

Failure to observe this warning may result in injury or damage. Install the machine in a location so that the installation into which it is incorporated

comply to the regulations of the Machinery directive 98/37/EC.Failure to observe this warning may result in injury or damage.

Do not start the machine or even turn ON the power before it is firmly anchored. The machine may overturn and cause injury or damage.

Do not install or operate the machine which is damaged or lacks parts.Failure to observe this caution may cause injury or damage.

Information! When installing a robot it is necessary to observe the requirements of environmental condi-tions. Follow chapters "3.2.2. Mounting" and "4. Basic specifications".

VMF-500/750 S5NInstallation

Installation of the safeguardingTo ensure safety, be sure to install safeguarding. It prevents unforeseen accidents with per-sonnel and damage to equipment. The following is quoted for your information and guidance.

Machinery directive (98/37/EC)

Before taking this machine into service, ensure that the machine fulfills the demands in the machinery directive, Annex 1 (essential health and safety requirements related to the design and construction of machinery).

Responsibility for safeguarding (ISO 10218)

The user of a machine or complete system shall ensure that safeguarding is provided and used in accordance with sections 6, 7, and 8 of this standard. The means and degree of safeguarding, including any redundancies, shall correspond directly to the type and level of hazard presented by the machine system consistent with type of application. Safeguarding may include but not be limited to safeguarding devices, barriers, interlock barriers, perimeter guarding, awareness barriers and awareness signals.

3.2.2 MountingThe positioner shall be firmly mounted on a base or a foundation firm enough to support the positioner and withstand maximum repulsion forces during acceleration and deceleration.

While constructing a solid foundation and further when applying anchoring bolts or corre-sponding, follow the European Commission directive 89/106/EEC(Construction Products) by its harmonized standards and if necessary the specific Construction Product’s ETA (European Technical Approval) (e.g. regarding appropriate concrete thickness/quality and the depth of anchoring bolt attachments).

Information! The forces in table of chapter "4.3. Basic specifications" has to be considered when construct-ing and mounting positioner onto, foundation.

The surface of the base or foundation should be level and even. If uneven: grind the swell and flatten the surface.

Information!VMF-500/750 S5N with tailstock is delivered with one side dismounted.

Assemble the head- and tailstock before lifting the machine in place.

Mounting procedure:Procedure is referring to fig."9. Level adjustments" and "10. Mounting holes".

1. Place the machine in its final position.

2. Apply anchoring bolts (M16) in the ten holes.

Information! It is of importance to place foot washers under the adjustment screws. (See fig. "8. Foot washers")

3. Place a spirit-level on top of baseplate for levelling positioner in directions A and B (see fig. "10. Mounting holes"). Adjust the level of the machine by means of the ten adjustment screws (M16) to a level of max. <0,2/1000 mm.

4. Fix the stand to the floor by tightening the ten anchoring bolts (M16).

5. Tightening all bolts.

3.3 Wiring

3.3.1 Wiring safety

Warning! The equipotential bonding shall not be mixed up with protective earth. Before wiring, make sure to turn OFF the primary power supply, and put up a warning

sign. (eg. DO NOT TURN THE POWER ON.)Failure to observe this warning may result in fire or electric shock

Wiring must be performed by authorized or certified personnel.Failure to observe this caution may result in fire or electric shock.

Protective earth

WarningProtective earth shall be performed following the directive LVD 73/23/EEC and its harmonised standards.Failure to do so may result in severe incidents.

Equipotential bondingRecommended wire shall correspond to a low resitance according to LVD 73/23/EEC and its harmonised standards. For equipotential bonding, connect the wire directly to the frame of the machine.

Information!Never share this line with other ground lines or grounding electrodes for other electric power, motor power, welding devices, etc..

3.3.2 Connection to MOTOMAN robot controller

Warning! Install all electrical cables to the positioner, control system, welding equipment etc. so

that there are no possibility to stumble over or step on the cables. Do not put any object directly on the cables. Never place the cables along power cables, neither underneath the welding power

source.

Installation and connection to robot controller comprises hardware as well as software instal-lation. This moment shall be carried out by MOTOMAN service personnel. When the VMF is delivered together with a robot, this installation is already carried out at MOTOMAN factory.

When delivered together with other equipment: see separate diagram for electrical connec-tion, included in the in the order specific documentation:

5. Maintenance

5.1 GeneralMaintenance of the positioner should be handled only by authorised personnel or MOTOMAN Service, who are thoroughly familiar with the design and construction of the machine.

For all kind of service/maintenance, be sure to:

1. Turn off and lock the electrical supplies.

2. Turn off and lock the wiring circuit breaker.

Warning!Depending on type of installation, connections between several machines can exist and con-sequently electrical supplies from several power sources occurs.

Be sure you have turned off all live circuits before servicing. To avoid incidents caused by inadvertent turning of machine, put up an information sign

indicating that maintenance is performed. Check after performed maintenance that all covers are remounted and all bolts are

tighten to requisite torque. Check that no tools are left in the cell.

5.3 Servo units

5.3.1 General

Information! Dismounting of servo unit is not recommended. If the gear is dismounted by personnel without adequate knowledge, the technical data

can not be guaranteed. If certain work has to be performed on the servo units, MOTOMAN representative should

be contacted.

Condition at deliveryWhen reduction gears are delivered mounted on positioner, they are properly filled with grease at MOTOMAN.

Considerations when assembling servo unitsMotor shafts should be coated with MoS2-paste or spray (e.g. Molycote).

OverhaulAfter about 20.000 hours or 4 to 5 years operation, it is advisable to overhaul the unit and replace the grease.

Disassembly - reassembleIn principle, disassembly of the reduction unit is not recommended. No attempt should be made to change the mesh or clearances within the unit. If the unit is disassembled by other than CYCLO personnel then the operating and performance characteristic cannot be guaran-teed.

5.3.2 Reduction gear

LubricationGears are filled with grease when delivered from MOTOMAN.

No refilling of the gear is necessary.

5.3.3 AC servo

Servo motorThe AC servomotor has no wearing parts (e.g. brushes), so simple daily inspection is suffi-cient. The inspection schedule for the motor is shown in chapter "5.2.1. Lubrication and main-tenance schedule".

Do not disassemble the motor. If disassembly should become necessary, contact MOTOMAN service.

ServopackThe servopack does not require any special maintenance. Remove dust and tighten screws periodically.
