SPECIAL TALENT EXAM GUIDE

This guide has been prepared to inform foreign candidate
students who want to study at Eskişehir
Osmangazi University, Faculty of Art and Design, Visual Arts
Department, about the Special Talent
Exam, and selection / placement procedures.
The applicants for the Special Talent Exam must carefully read
all the information and explanations
in this guide. The Dean's Office, Examination Commission, Jury
Members and the Rectorate cannot
be held responsible for the negative situations that may arise
from the candidates' failure to read the
information and explanations written in the guide.
Candidates who apply for the Special Talent Exam are deemed to
have accepted the regulations in this
guide and the online exam.
Exam schedule and exam conditions may vary depending on the
pandemic process that may
develop.
Pre-registration process of citizens of Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus and foreign students will be carried out online by
ESOGÜ Rectorate Student Affairs Office. Online exam rules and
regulations described in this guide will be applied also for
foreign candidates. Exams of foreign candidates will be carried out
according to the calendar determined by ESOGU Rectorate Student
Affairs Office.
Online Exam Dates for Foreign Candidates: 29-30 September
2020
Candidates, after filling and signing “Remote Exam Participation
and Registration Declaration” that they can access from ANNEXURE-1,
must scan and transform them into pdf documents and send to the
faculty e-mail address: sanattasarim@ogu edu.tr
Exams of foreign students will be evaluated over 100. Candidates
whose score is below 50
will be considered unsuccessful. Candidates will be announced
according to the special talent
exam scores and quota.

1. STUDENT QUOTAS
Student quotas that are to be taken with a Special Talent Exam
for the Visual Arts Department in the
2020-2021 academic year are given below:

2. PRE-REGISTRATION
Pre- registrations of foreign candidates for Special Talent Exam
for Eskişehir Osmangazi
University Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Visual Arts
will be carried out by ESOGÜ
Rectorate Student Affairs Office.
2.1 Pre-registration conditions
Pre-registration process of citizens of Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus and foreign students will
be carried out online by ESOGÜ Rectorate Student Affairs Office.
Online exam rules and regulations
described in this guide will also be applied for foreign
candidates. Exams of foreign candidates will
be carried out according to the calendar determined by ESOGU
Rectorate Student Affairs
Office.
Applications with missing documents or outside the announced
period will not be accepted.
2.2. Documents required
Candidates, after filling and signing “Remote Exam Participation
and Registration Declaration” that
they can access from ANNEXURE-1, must scan and transform it into
pdf documents and send to the
faculty e-mail address: sanattasarim@ogu edu.tr
2.3. Finalizing the pre-registration process
Candidates will be sent the candidate number, username and
password that were defined for them
to their e-mail addresses. Candidates will be able to enter the
online exam system via the widespread
network connection, which will also be announced by e-mail. The
system will not allow login before
September 29, 2020

3. SPECIAL TALENT EXAM
3.1. Exam type, date and environment
1) The Special Talent Entry Exam will be held online over the
widespread network connection to be announced. The Special Talent
Exam to be carried out online consists of 3 stages: Artistic
Approach, Portfolio Presentation and Video Presentation.
2) Online Exam Date for Foreign Candidates: 29-30 September
2020
Candidates will be able to take the online exam on Tuesday
September 29, 2020, between 09:00 and Wednesday September 30, 2020,
23:59.
3.2. Digital tools and environments that candidates may need for
the Special Talent Exam
The Special Talent Exam will be held online. In order to meet
the requirements expected for the online
exam, it is important for the candidates to have access to the
following tools, programs or
environments:
Computer (Desktop or laptop)
Internet Connection (must be of a speed and quality that will
not cause connection problems
during the online exam)
Camera (Webcam or camera-enabled phone, tablet, laptop with
external camera)
Microphone (Phone, tablet, laptop with external camera with
external microphone or
microphone feature)
Word Program
Programs that can prepare jpg files
Candidate number, user name and password sent to them via e-mail
for the system where they
can log in from the common network connection to be
announced.
3.3. Application of the exam and rules to be followed
The Special Talent Exam will be held online between the
announced dates and times.
Special Talent Exam takes place in 3 online stages as “Artistic
Approach”, “Portfolio Presentation” and “Video Presentation”. Via
the widespread network connection which will be active on 29
September 2020 with the username and password specified for them
candidates are expected to progress in these 3 stages in line with
the following issues:

3.3.1. Artistic Approach: The candidate, by taking the 4
questions below into consideration, has to
prepare and upload a Word document explaining his/her artistic
interests and the motivation to choose
the Visual Arts Department.
The candidate must never include information that will reveal
his/her identity in the text he/she
will write, otherwise the exam of the candidate will be deemed
invalid.
Briefly write about yourself. (Your graduation knowledge,
interests, etc.) What are your artistic
interests / fields and goals?
● What subjects are your artistic practices mostly shaped
around?
● Which aspects of which artists, thinkers, educators, etc. is
your work influenced by?
● Why do you prefer to study at ESOGU Faculty of Art and Design,
Department of Visual Arts?
The candidate is required to compose his / her text stating his
/her artistic interests, artistic motivation,
and reasons for application to the department around the
above-mentioned questions, as a WORD file
using typeface Times New Roman and font size 12. Although there
is no limitation on the length of
the description text, it is recommended to be between 300 and
1000 words. The text created must not
exceed the size of 1 MB and must be made ready to be uploaded to
the system by being saved as
“CandidateNumber_artisticapproach” (e.g. 23_artisticapproach)
and with the .doc or .docx
extension. Artistic Approach Stage has a 20% value in the
Special Talent Exam Evaluation Scale. The
criteria to be used in evaluating this stage and their scores
are as follows:

3.3.2. Portfolio Presentation: The candidate must present a
portfolio that is the evidence of his / her
artistic interests and artistic practices. The portfolio must
consist of images containing the candidate's
work pointing to different materials, techniques, or
environments. Each image in the form of a file
with .jpg extension must be uploaded to the system separately,
together with the label information.
(The candidate may create his / her works with .jpg extension by
photographing, scanning, or preparing
directly in digital environment.)
The candidate is to upload the images consisting of his / her
individual and original works and
the label information about the image. The exam of the candidate
who is found to use images
and information that does not belong to them will be deemed
invalid.
There must not be any information that will reveal the
candidate’s identity such as name, surname, or
signature on the images. Otherwise, the exam of the candidate
will be deemed invalid.
● 10 images must be uploaded to illustrate the candidate's
artistic work. Images may illustrate
works that point to different materials, techniques,
environments or topics. (Images of two-

dimensional and / or three-dimensional works, photographs,
motion pictures, etc.) It is
recommended to present images of experimental works, if any.
● Images must be prepared in .jpg format, and pre-formatted PDF
files or files / images with
links to websites must not be uploaded.
● In order for the images representing the works to be eligible,
each image must be prepared at
a resolution of 300 DPI, with a short edge not less than 10
cm.
● The size of each image must not exceed 5 MB. Files exceeding
this size will not be accepted
by the system.
● Along with the images, the label information of the works must
be provided. The label
information of the work must enclose the name, technique, size,
year o and a short description
of the work, if any.
● Screenshots of motion pictures prepared in the above-mentioned
features may be used. The
internet addresses of the motion pictures, if any, may be given
in the description field in the
"label information" section.
Portfolio Presentation Stage has a 30% value in the Special
Talent Exam Evaluation Scale. The criteria
to be used in evaluating this stage and their scores are as
follows:

3.3.3. Video Presentation At this stage, the candidate uploads a
video to the system where he / she
presents the finished version of the project requested from her.
The subject of the project will be
determined by the exam jury. The candidate will be able to see
the subject of the project on the system he / she enters as of
September 29, 2020. Candidates who have completed their project
must submit their projects by taking a video and uploading the
video file to the system.
Requirements for video presentation are as follows:
At first the candidate must briefly talk about his / her project
in a way that makes his/her face seen
directly across in the video presentation. Then, during the
detailed explanation of the project, he / she
may explain and present his/her project by shooting the project
materials in close-up, if necessary, or
shooting her materials from different angles.
The candidate must not mention any information that will reveal
his/her identity during her
presentation. No writing, drawing, visual, physical, or verbal
expression must be included in the
video footage of the candidate to reveal his/her identity.
Otherwise, the exam of the candidate will
be deemed invalid.
The candidate must upload the video, during which he/she
presents the project, and which takes no
more than 10 minutes to the system. The video must be prepared
as file with mpg, .wmv, .mpeg or
.mp4 extension and must not exceed 100 MB.

The candidate is expected to answer the following questions
regarding the project which is subject to
the presentation video:
● Describe your starting point for the project and explain how
you realized your project.
● What are the materials, techniques and / or environments you
have used in your project?
● Describe the factors that led you to choose the techniques,
materials and / or environments you
have used in your project.
● Please explain the subject you have worked on and what you
intended to depict within the
scope of the theoretical infrastructure of your project.
● Explain how you have combined the theoretical infrastructure
that shapes your project with the
materials, techniques and / or media you have used, and what
kind of associations you have
made.
In the project presentation, although the questions above are
guiding, the candidate is free to add the
explanations he / she deems necessary.
Candidates who explain the final version of their projects with
the video presentation must also upload
images of their projects and the project label information to
the system. At this stage, 3 images should
be uploaded in .jpg format, each of which does not exceed the
size of 5 MB. Images must show the
project from 3 different angles. Following the images, the label
information including the project's
name, technique and size must be entered. (Each image must be
prepared at a resolution of 300 DPI,
with a short edge not less than 10 cm.)
When the project video, project images and project's information
are uploaded to the system, the Video
Presentation stage will be completed.
Video Presentation Stage has a 50% value in the Special Talent
Exam Evaluation Scale. The criteria
to be used in evaluating this stage and their scores are as

3.4 Special Talent Exam Score (STES)
● The evaluation aims to measure the candidate's ability to
express himself / herself and his/her
artistic interests in writing and verbally, his/her visual
perception ability, his/her imagination and
his/her ability to transform it into artistic expression.
● Evaluation in the "Special Talent Exam" will be executed using
the "Special Talent Exam
Evaluation Scale" below.

STES 100 Points
● As seen in the scale, the score that can be obtained is 20
points from the Artistic Approach stage, 30 points from the
Portfolio Presentation, and 50 points from the Video Presentation.
The highest score that can be obtained in the exam is 100.
● The evaluation will be carried out by the Exam Jury on 01
October 2020.
● The Exam Jury will evaluate the exam work over 100 points
according to the evaluation criteria. Thus, the candidates' Special
Talent Exam Score (STES) will be determined. Candidates with a
special talent exam score of 50 and above will be considered
successful and their placement scores will be added to the
calculation.
3.5 Placement
Exams of foreign students will also be evaluated over 100.
Candidates whose score is below 50 will
be considered unsuccessful. Candidates will be announced
according to the special talent exam
scores and quota.
3.6 Announcement of the exam results
The exam results will be announced on Monday, October 5, 2020,
on the website of the Faculty of Art and Design
(http://stf.ogu.edu.tr/).
4. FINAL REGISTRATION
The final Registration process of foreign students will be
carried out online by ESOGÜ Rectorate
Student Affairs Office.
