What Companies Are Already Using VR?

Page 16: Virtual Reality in Corporate Training

1. Safety Training on Oil Rigs

Frank’s International – an industry

leader in casing, installing and

distributing oilfield tubulars – is using

virtual reality training to recreate

teachable situations on oil rigs.

The goal is to lower the dangers when

working with heavy machinery and

lower fatality rate.

2. New Employees Orientation Process

In Australia, AGL Energy Limited uses VR technology during the Welcome Day for inducting new employees. Show the team stand-up meeting.

Such training gives new workers a taste of life at the company. It shows the facilities.

Plan to shoot drone footage of the plants (hydro operations and windfarms).

3. British Army Recruiting

The world’s first VR recruitment experience by The British

Army. Potential recruits (at Waterloo station) could drive the

Challenger II tank.

The latest developments in 360 content production showed the

thrill and excitement of serving in the forces from a first person

POV and drove an increase in applications to join the Army

Reserves (+65%) and enroll in officer training programs.

4. German Railroads Recruiting

In Germany, Deutsche Bahn uses VR technology to aid in recruitment.

Prospective employees look at the train depot inspection, at the engineering

work on the railroad. 360-degree video.

They are given the chance to experience the job before they apply, helping to

give the company an edge in a competitive market.

5. Marriott creates virtual travelling experience from London to Hawaii

A marketing case, but similar mechanics can be used

for training.

1. VR Postcards are available to Marriott

guests. They follow 3 tourists in mountains of

Chile, ice cream shop in Rwanda, busy streets of

Beijing.

2. Teleport. From London to Maui.

Why Is 3600 Video Better than Unity?

Page 22: Virtual Reality in Corporate Training

Polygons don’t immerse. 3600 video does!

Page 23: Virtual Reality in Corporate Training

The technology does not allow yet for realistic images with Unity

200 polygons 2K 20K

NASA Trains Spacewalking with VR

NASA makes sure that the people they send into space have some

amount of experience in becoming detached from their shuttle and

have to use a backpack to navigate their way back or performing

complicated tasks in zero gravity.

Virtual Reality enables NASA to simulate all these situations.

Script length

VR training cost depends on …

Number of actors

Number of locations

Drone shooting

Equipment

Page 32: Virtual Reality in Corporate Training
Page 33: Virtual Reality in Corporate Training

Expensive, long

Reasons to be afraid of VR

No LMS integrations

Doesn’t work for all types of courses

Doesn’t scale well

Dizzy Not if the camera is steady, at eyes’ height. And the person is sitting.

Mobile app. If the phone is connected to the Internet we send any data

(name, mistakes, finished or not).

Depends on the script. Can be 2 weeks. Devices now cost $70.

True. Worse than traditional online. But glasses are spreading wide and

fast. There were times when smartphones were rare.

True. Can’t learn finance, MS Office or anything longer than 10 minutes.
