The Peuan Mit Friends-International Laos Mechanics Repair Shop is now up and running in its new location across from Phonthan High School (just down from Joma Phonthan). The garage and workshop is run as a social business offering a professional experience for youth in a real working environment and generating income that is fed back into the training programme, which sees all mechanics students participate in hands-on, practical motorbike and bicycle repair skills training, and customer service. All students come from highly marginalised communities or have left life on the street, and at the end of their training, they receive a certificate of competency and are supported to find a ob or start their own small business in their locale.

The banks of the Mekong River came alive on May 10 as the third European Food Festival kicked-off in Vientiane. To celebrate the 64th anniversary of the European Union, around 20 local restaurateurs and vendors gathered on the riverside to present the finest cuisine Europe has to offer. From pasta, paella and aromatic baked treats to Belgian beers and fine talian wines, the hungry crowds were given a taste of French, Italian, German, Belgian and Spanish culinary delights.

The annual event is organised by the European Union, EU Member States Embassies, The European Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Annam Fine Foods, to promote tourism and culture in Laos. The next European Food Festival will be held in May 2015.
