Micro-(Smart)-Grid.
Test Field Smart Energy Grids IntroductionEnergy Transition is a central issue of our society. It involves the transformation process
of an energy system based on fossil fuels towards a sustainable system that is relying on
renewable energy sources.
One of the major tasks involved in this transition is how to balance an increasing weather-
dependent electricity supply coming from renewable sources with a fluctuating demand.
A way to solve this complex issue lies within linking up energy providers, storage facilities
and consumers in terms of communication and controlling. This helps in coordinating and
optimizing the interaction of fluctuating energy supply (from renewable sources) and
demand.
The “grid of the future” becomes more decentralized and its energy flows have to be
operated in a “smarter” way – it turns into an automatized grid, a so-called “Smart Grid”.
This is exactly what we are working on.
In order to do so, we have linked up different energy producers, storage facilities and
consumers on campus.
Such a locally limited Smart Grid is referred to as a Micro-(Smart)-Grid.
Whether it is electric power, heat or mobility: Follow the signs of the test field
“Smart Energy Grids” and get an insight into our research.
Enjoy!
