Fullbright awards in teachingThe United States-India Educational foundation (USIEF)
has announced the 2016 Fulbright Distinguished Awards inTeaching programme. Fulltime Indian teachers teaching anysubject at any level (primary, middle or secondary) at a schoolin India can apply. This programme is also opent to primaryand secondary level media specialists/librarians, guidance coun-sellors, curriculam specialists, special education coordinators,gifted and talented coordinators and administrators who spendat least fifty per cent of their time teaching or workingly directlywith students. Teacher trainer are also eligible.
Selected international participants will be placed at a U.S.host university School of Education from mid-August to mid-December, 2016. The host university will provide a broad rangeof resources in the teacher’s fields of expertise. Internationalteachers who are selected to participate in the Fulbright Dis-tinguished Awards in Teaching programme will: Enrol in advancedundergraduate or graduate-level classes; design and conductan inquiry project; observe, team teach and or conduct workshopfor U.S teachers and students in local schools and engage inother teaching-related activities. Upon training home, partici-pants will be expected to share the knowledge and experiencegained on the programme with teachers and students in theirhome schools and with the wider community.

relief from the heat, doctors are warning residents to stay vigilant aboutfevers and be careful while managing them, especially dengue.
Dengue, the WHO says, is a viral infection transmitted by the biteof an an infected female Aedes mosquito. It is not directly transmittedfrom person to person. Symptoms appear 3-14 days after the bite. Thereis no specific treatment.
Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, severe headaches,severe joint and muscle pain, pain behind the eyes and radhes. “Whilein most cases, patinets will get better without medical assistance, ifany warning sense appear, patients must see a doctor” says BalaRamachandran, Medical Director, Kanchi Kamakoti Child TrustHospital. The danger signs you need to watch out for, especially whenthe fever subsides are severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, redspot or patches on the skin, bleeding from the nose or gums, coldextremities, lethergy, vomiting blood, blacl stools and difficultu inbreathing. If any of these signs are present, go to the hospitalimmediately. While paracetamol can be taken for the fever, do nototherwise self-medicate, emphasises T.N.Devarajan, senior consultant,Apollo First Med Hospital.
