Il Tempo Welcome to Il Tempo (The Times), the News-
letter of the Barony of Ponte Alto, one of the
northern baronies in the Kingdom of Atlantia.
Il Tempo strives to be an informative read that
you look forward to. To this end, we are al-
ways appreciative of any contributions to it,
perhaps an article of a project you are working
on or are interested in, how to make/play a
period game, your experience at an event,
how/what to prepare for a day trip, a recipe/
piece of garb that you've made, documentation
on an item you've competed - a how to on
documentation, a few words on a historical
person/event, photos, a book review, some-
thing to share with a newcomer - perhaps a
short autobiography of your persona or how
you came to figure out your persona.
The list can go on for ages - only limited by the
speed at which our hands can write out what
our minds can think of.
Come, share with us adventures in the great
Barony of Ponte Alto, in the grand Kingdom of
Atlantia, in this - the current Middle Ages!

Arts & Sciences in the Spotlight
“To all the citizens of the esteemed Kingdom of Atlantia, present and future, Michel Almond de Champagne, Maistresse of Service and Arts sends greetings.
Let your whole community know that with the consent of her Royal Highness Una, I am issuing a challenge to all artists within the Kingdoms boarder.
From Saint Ansgar day to Saint Alphonsus day (February 1 to August 1) I am challenging each artist to create an item that benefits their barony.
By way of meeting this challenge, I am asking that a photo of the artistic gift be posted here*. In exchange for this gift given to the barony, each person will re-ceive name fame and a token of my esteem.
This challenge is made in the 2018th year of the Gregorian calendar.
That this challenge may be held firm and remain untroubled, I have strengthened the present confirmation with the impression of my seal.”

Continuing our series, Ponte Alto Profiles, where we put a spotlight on some of
the people that make up the grand Barony of Ponte Alto, we follow up our profile
of Alric the Mad with our baroness, Cellach Mór! We hope you enjoy reading!
Profile: Cellach Mór
Who are you?
Cellach Mór, Baroness, Ponte Alto. Member of the Order of the Golden
Dolphin. Combat Archer. Glass Worker. MOL. Hospitality minion.
How did you find the SCA?
Originally Master Frank told me about it in 1999 when I was brand new to
DC. I learned more about it when I started dating Alric six years later.
What hooked you?
I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t getting to spend
time with Alric, watching him fight, and general-
ly enjoying being away from my real world. Do-
ing hospitality for the rapier community (and
Dragoons specifically) hooked me for real.
What is the SCA to you?
A place to be with my chosen family and friends,
and a place where I can learn and have interest-
ing discussions. A chance to cheerlead my friends
in doing such fascinating activities.
Tell us about your persona
It’s probably easiest to start with my name. My
heritage is Irish and Cellach was the closest I
could find to Kel. One of my dearest friends last
name is Moore, and the heralds thought it would
be a fun pun to use as Mór also means fat. Cel-
lach was taken from Saint Cellach of Armagh, a 10th century Archbishop
(who’s feast day is April 1)
My persona isn’t well defined. I like to dabble in all things shiny and like
Ponte Alto Profiles

P A G E 8
garb from all over and choose my garb on the event, activities, and weath-
er.
Current/next project?
Silk painting and stained glass are my
two current A&S passions. And my next
project is to document some of the things
I’ve been doing.
Favorite SCA event?
Ponte Alto’s Love & Beauty. It was the
first one I attended, and the first event as Baronage that we saw from be-
ginning to end! I love all the pageantry and fighting!
How do you stay busy at events?
I ask myself the same thing. Setting up hospitality, helping fighters armor
up, watching fighting, feeding and watering fighters, sometimes shooting
combat archery, occasionally archery or thrown weapons, looking at A&S,
socializing, shopping, attending courts, and suddenly the day is gone.
What activity do you not do, that you’d like to try?
I would really like to try more fighting, sadly I am too broken for that. I
hope to play with more hot metal and glass.
What advice would you offer someone just getting started?
Try any and everything you want to – almost everyone is willing to teach
you! If you try it and don’t like it – try it one more time! I personally like
the 1-year rule. Take a year before you decide to commit to a persona,
name, peer, or household. Borrow what you can early on – most areas are
happy to loan garb, armor, or work with you in their workshop. Don’t
take anything personally – a lot of us are socially awkward and many suf-
fer from pain and stress you know nothing about. If you’re doing an activ-
ity find a way to give back to that community – MOL, Marshal, Judge,
Clean-Up, etc. Keep and open mind! Just cause xyz isn’t your gig doesn’t
mean it’s not a lot of fun for the person doing it.
With many thanks to the Baroness for taking the time to share with us this profile!

Report from the Autocrat
The day started chilly and sunny, and although the snow came later in the
afternoon, it could not dampen our festivities. We enjoyed a wonderful
day of stories, dancing, shopping, and of pageantry, chivalry, and friend-
ship.
There were 15 fighters and consorts vying for
the title of Champions of the Tournament of
Love & Beauty. Congratulations go out to Sir
Luis de Castilla and Lady Margarita de Siena
who took the top prize, and who also won
the award for Best Procession. Also, a shout
out goes to Lady Esa inghean Donnchaidh
for having the best Consort A&S entry,
to Lord Ullfarr Refskegg for winning the Ra-
pier Tournament, and to Syr Rousell Taver-
nier for winning the Armored Tournament.
We ended the day with a scrumptious feast
cooked by Baroness Aine Chumin and her
amazing kitchen crew. If you didn't have any
leeks, you really missed out.
Thanks again to all the wonderful staff
and participants. We had such a won-
derful time, we hope you come back
again.

Thank you note from Baroness Cellach
2/22/18
Thank you to everyone who helped make The Tournament of Love and
Beauty a wonderful day. Vadoma (Marlene) put together a wonderful
event and managed to make the day spectacular, in spite of the scheduling
and weather difficulties. Thank you to everyone who assisted in moving
court to earlier so those with longer journeys could safely get on the road.
Lady Vadoma did a wonderful job in her write up and His Excellency and
I echo the thanks to all who helped make the day magical.
Thank you to Baroness Aine Chuimin for such a carefully prepared and
documented feast! And to all the kitchen crew who spent the day prepar-
ing such deliciousness.
It was wonderful to see some folks came from far away to be part of the
day. Congratulations to Sir Luis de Castilla and Lady Margarita De' Siena
for being crowned the Champions of Love and Beauty! And to all the dis-
cipline winners.

Pelican!

the Order of the Yew Bow (archery) and Lord Naran Numuchi on his in-
duction into the Order of the Golden Dolphin (service).
While I am thanking people, I want to thank M’Lady Lina who has been
incredibly generous with her donation of largesse to the barony! Ponte Al-
to is fortunate to count her amongst our populace!
I want to add a personal thank you to Lady Delphina the Mad and Maes-
tra Gracia Esperanza de Sevilla and for spending their entire day looking
after His Excellency and me. (And a personal thank you to Lord Eamonn
Mac Uiliam and Lord Tristan de Roquelaure for checking on us through-
out the day).
And a very personal thank you to Graciela and Alric for taking such won-
derful care of me at the end of the night when I fell ill, thank you all for
understanding!

We really could use your help
There are several positions in our Barony that could use a Deputy;
actually, all of the positions that we have could benefit by having at
least one deputy.
Why a Deputy? Well, it is easy for any one of us to intend to do
something if we don’t take into account that the SCA is what we do
with our time after we are finished doing what we do to pay the
bills.
With deputies, the work load can be shared, allowing more work to
be accomplished with less time and stress for any one individual.
Besides, it is a great way to work with others to do something
different to help make your, and other’s, SCA experience that
much better!
