MARCH IS NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH Lunch & Learn: the Eco-Challenge!

March 19 & March 21 at 12 p.m.

DUC Room 223

Eating sustainably means raising food that is healthy for consumers and animals, does not harm the environment, and is humane for workers. Some studies have shown that up to a quarter of an individual’s environmental impact comes from their food consumption. Meat production requires not only land, but also energy and water. Sixteen pounds of wheat and up to 2,500 gallons of water are necessary to produce one pound of grain-fed beef. Eating sustainably can have a positive impact on your physical and environmental health. You can start eating more sustainably by following these 7 tips:

1. Buy Organic 2. Avoid antibiotics 3. Buy food containing no growth hormones 4. Choose fish carefully 5. Eat locally 6. Eat what’s in season 7. Stay low on the food chain

For more information on these tips and additional information about eating sustainably check out our educational lunch time program, the Eco-Challenge. Come check it out and learn more about eating sustainably!
