Primary Review – Rationale

3.44 Even now, a reasonable grasp of ICT is needed in education and employment, and it will become increasingly important to command ICT skills to

prepare for technologies of the future.

3.45 To argue against the importance of ICT in theprimary curriculum is to ignore the increasing

digitisation of information worldwide.

Note: Curriculum review due March / April 2011

The Framework for the National Curriculum.

A report by the Expert Panel for the National Curriculumreview Department for Education - December 2011

Information and communication technology is reclassified as part of the Basic Curriculum and requirements should be established so that it permeates all National Curriculum subjects. We have also noted the arguments, made by some respondents to the Call for Evidence,58 that there should be more widespread teaching of computer science in secondary schools. We recommend that this proposition is properly considered.

Primary Review – Our InheritancePupils to use Twitter and blogs in primary schools shake-up –

The Guardian:

“The proposals would require: Children in England to leaveprimary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia andTwitter as sources of information and forms of communication.

They must gain "fluency" in handwriting and keyboard skills, andlearn how to use a spellchecker alongside how to spell.”

Guardian 25th March 2009
