Pipeline engineeringParticularly offshore, operators face unprecedentedchallenges as the industry moves into deep and ultra-deep water, with harsh conditions, regulatory andenvironmental pressures, and project execution issues. Inthese new frontiers, you need an entirely new level ofengineering expertise to deliver cost-effective solutions.

Our capability includes buckle arrestors, corrosion, routeselection, instability, vortex-induced vibration andengineering critical assessments for infield flowlines, export pipelines, trunk lines, chemicals/water/gasinjection lines, and specialty lines, including pipe-in-pipe,LNG and LPG.

MEETING THECHALLENGEThe oil and gas industry continues to face new challenges in the search anddevelopment of new production.

Foster Wheeler Upstream seeks to find the right balance of all factors thathave an impact on a field’s development and reduce CAPEX and OPEX costswhile maintaining a realistic development schedule and producing safe andenvironmentally acceptable solutions.

This ability is underpinned by our knowledge of technology and itsapplication, our global reach and the experience of our staff.

Subsea engineeringOur subsea engineering team has expertise from reservoirto production interface, and in-depth knowledge ofsubsea equipment, control systems and umbilicals, subseaboosting and processing, raw water injection, ROVinterfacing and installation, and development andoperation of HIPPS subsea and other technologies.

Our systematic approach to subsea field development is supported by an expertise in flow assurance that uses a combination of state-of-the-art simulation software and field experience to deliver workable and practicalsolutions. Our experience includes reservoir andproduction fluid characterization, steady-state andtransient analyses, heat transfer FEM, slugging analysis, pigging studies, chemical injection studies andcommissioning and operating philosophy development.

We have developed a unique design tool to facilitate thedesign of subsea plate mudmats. Our design programme, which includes automation and built-in intelligence, significantly improves the engineering efficiency andreduces the potential for human error in mudmat design.

Acid gasIncreasing energy costs and growing demand for naturalgas have driven the development of sour gas fieldsaround the world. Acid gas composition in these reservescan be very high, emission regulations are getting tighterand there is increasing requirement to achieve higherlevels of sulfur removal and recovery.

We understand the many treatment processes availableand can help guide you through the key parameters such as composition, pressure, temperature, impuritiesand final product specifications to find a solutionthat can meet economic, reliability, versatility andenvironmental considerations.

Coal-bed methaneOur experience in coal-bed methane projects includesworking with client sub-surface teams to jointly developan optimized field development plan that minimizessurface facility cost while giving good operationalflexibility and recovery.

We recognize the challenges in designing gatheringsystems with the typically low wellhead flowing pressuresfrom coal-bed methane reservoirs and our models havebeen validated against actual brownfield hydraulic dataand confirmed by third party review.

We are also experienced in the injection of coal-bedmethane gas into conventional natural gas reservoirs for storage, and in the removal of heavy hydrocarboncontaminants from the residual natural gas. Our designexperience also extends to further processing of the coal-bed methane into LNG.

Shale gasShale gas has become an increasingly important source of natural gas and is expected to expandworldwide energy supply significantly. Our experienceincludes conceptual and detailed engineering andconstruction management services, incorporating phase separation, compression, dehydration, H2S andCO2 removal, tankage and metering. Our experiencein gas monetization options such as GTL and LNG is extensive.
