First-Year Head Coach Kyprianou Takes On NCAA Outdoors Petros Kyprianou arrived in Athens as an assistant in 2008 from Boise State and took over the role as Associate Head Coach in 2014 before the Cyprus native took the reins as the Bulldogs’ 10th head coach in history in June 2015. During his time in the red and black, Kyprianou has helped transform Georgia, specifically its combined events and jumps, into a national power. The Bulldogs have combined for 12 top-20 team finishes at the NCAA Cham-pionships and seven top-10 finishes since 2009.
Here are some notes during the first seven years for Kyprianou’s crew (2009-16):l 11 NCAA individual titlesl 47 First Team All-America certificatesl 25 SEC individual titlesl 6 top-6 NCAA team finishes
Orji On Fire True sophomore Keturah Orji (OR-g, like the letter ‘g’) has proven to be one of the most dominant jumpers in collegiate history through her two seasons, mostly because of her performance in the triple jump. The Mount Olive, N.J., native has won 15 of 16 competitions in the triple and her latest two victories have been the two most impressive. At the SEC Outdoor Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Orji won her fourth consec-utive conference crown by matching the collegiate all-time, all-conditions best with a school/meet/facility record mark of 47 feet, 10 3/4 inches (Stanford’s Erica McLain, 2008), which had a wind-aided 2.9 meter/second wind. She also had an effort of 46-6.75 in her series, which was No. 5 on the all-time wind-legal (2.0 or less) collegiate list. Orji waited two weeks until the NCAA East Prelims to make her second-best jump at SECs No. 6 on the all-time list as she sailed to a collegiate record on her first try in Jack-sonville. She traveled 46-10.75 in wind-legal conditions to pass the five-year-old mark of 46-9 set by Florida State’s Kim Williams. This gave Orji the top, sixth- and seventh-best wind-legal
#MultisU Four Bulldogs joined their teammates in Jacksonville, Fla., for the NCAA East Prelims, but had to do nothing to advance to the NCAA Champi-onships. Senior Maicel Uibo, junior Devon Wil-liams and sophomore Karl Saluri are ranked in the top 24 and were allowed to bypass the Prelims.Uibo: The two-time defending NCAA champ scored his third point total of 8,300+ to earn runner-up hon-ors at the SEC Championships. The three-time SEC dec champ is ranked second going in to the meet.D. Williams: The Marietta, Ga., native advanced to his second straight NCAA outdoor meet after scoring his first Olympic standard score (8,116) to finish third at SECs. He is ranked third nationally.Saluri: The Univ. of New Orleans transfer gives the Bulldogs two natives of Estonia who have qualified for the Olympics (Uibo). Saluri won the season-open-ing Bulldog Decathlon with 8,108 points and is situ-ated fourth nationally.K. Williams: Devon’s younger sister is no stranger to the NCAAs in her third year. She was the 2015 runner-up and captured the 2014 heptathlon title as a freshman. Williams has also tallied three NCAA pentathlon titles, all with collegiate records.

First-Timers At NCAAs Four Georgia qualifiers will be competing at their first NCAA outdoor meet. True freshmen Jeramey Hampton (800m) and Denzel Comenen-tia (shot put, hammer) along with redshirt freshman Aliyah Johnson (triple jump), senior Christian Harrison (800m) and sophomore Mady Fagan (high jump) will be making their debut. However, Comenentia was a First-Team All-American in the shot indoors and Fagan also ad-vanced to this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships.

Porter Poised For Grand Finale Since arriving in Athens from Prattville, Jamaica, during the fall of 2012, senior Chanice Porter has elevated herself to become one of the most consistent national scorers in the long jump. She opened her career by capturing the 2013 SEC indoor title and has gone on to be a five-time First Team All-American scorer in the event, including her runner-up finish at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Olympic hopeful had a personal-best mark of 21 feet, 8 inches to take third at this year’s SEC Championships. Indoors, Porter soared to a school record mark of 21-9.50 to finish second at the 2016 SEC meet. Also of note, the 6-foot high jumper has just concentrated just on the long jump this outdoor season as she gears up for a big finish.
One Of Country’s Dominant Throws Looking For Pts Fellow Jamaica native and senior Bulldog Ashinia Miller has shown glimpses throughout this four years that he is indeed one of the country’s deepest throwers in the shot. He owns the indoor school record after reaching 66-7.75 at the 2015 McCravy Memorial. The Kingston native also sits fourth on the UGA outdoor all-time top-10 list with a career-best mark of 65-8.25 at the NCAA East Prelims two weeks ago. In fact, Miller has hit 65 feet at two meets this season and has only thrown shorter than 63-8 once outdoors in 2016. However, the 2016 SEC indoor and outdoor champion has yet to score at Nationals. Miller has twice advanced to the NCAA Indoor Cham-pionships (2015-16), finishing with Second Team All-America honors both times, and finished one spot out of qualifying for the 2015 NCAA outdoor meet at Prelims. He had the fifth-best qualifying throw out of both regions two weeks ago and has launched a series of warm-ups and fouls in his last two comps that have raised eyebrows nationwide.
Dogs Hoping First Time Is A Charm Just five months ago, Denzel Comenentia was learning his way from his dorm to the dining hall, to class, to the track and back to his dorm
room. The Amsterdam, Netherlands, native arrived in the U.S. in January and enrolled in UGA for the spring semester. Now, Comenentia is heading to his second NCAA Champion-ships in the Red and Black and is one of only two Georgia team members qualified in a pair of events (Keturah Orji). A First Team All-American scorer in the shot indoors and the top freshman scorer (fourth overall) at the SEC Outdoor Championships (15 points in three events) will join Ashinia Miller in the shot put and Alex Poursanidis in the hammer throw this week.
Bulldogs In Olympics Four current Georgia team members, including two who will be competing in Eugene, have already hit the Olympic standard and will be competing for their countries. Senior Maicel Uibo and sophomore Karl Saluri will be representing Estonia in the decathlon following their time at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Uibo is the two-time defending NCAA champion. Senior Leontia Kallenou (high jump/Cyprus) and Ce-jhae Greene (sprints/Antigua) have also already punched their ticket to Rio but will not be competing at the NCAA Championships. When the U.S. Trials arrive in Eugene on July 1-10, another batch of Bulldogs who are competing for the Red and Black this week will be aiming for a shot on America’s squad. Junior Kendell Williams (hep-tathlon), sophomore Keturah Orji (triple jump) and junior Devon Wil-liams (decathlon) will compete at NCAAs before the Trials. Also, former Bulldog Reese Hoffa (shot put), who was the bronze medalist in 2012, current Bulldog Kendal Williams (sprints) and former Bulldog Garrett Scantling (decathlon), among others, will be vying to make the U.S. team.
