Spotswood Opens with a Pair of UA Top-10 ClearancesFreshman Jake Spotswood has followed his strong indoor season in the pole vault with a pair of school top-10 clearances in the fi rst two outdoor meets of his collegiate career. The Daphne, Ala., native won the pole vault at UTSA Invitaitonal on April 17 with a personal-best mark of 17-3 1/2 (5.27m), which ranks No. 6 all-time at Alabama and followed that up a week later with a clearance of 17-0 3/4 (5.20m) to fi nish third at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge on March 23. That mark ties for the 10th-best in school history.
Walker Posts Personal Best in 400-Meter HurdlesIn her fi rst 400-meter hurdles outing of the season, senior Kaitlin Walker won the event at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge on March 23 with a personal-best time of 59.09. The mark ranks as the eighth-fastest in school history and continues a strong fi nal campaign for the Heber City, Utah, native. Walker set the school record in the 600 meters during the 2018 indoor season with a time of 1:31.50 at the Bob Pollock Invitational on March 17 and went on to fi nish sixth in the 800 meters at the SEC indoor championships.
List Opens with a Pair of Top-10 Javelin MarksFreshman Tianah List made an impressive debut in her fi rst outing for Alabama in the javelin at the UTSA Invitational on March 17 with a pair of throws that rank among the 10 best in school history. The Brisbane, Australia, native fi nished second in the event with a throw of 164-3 (50.07m) that ranks No. 8 all-time at UA. She also had an addi-tional mark of 163-6 (49.85m) in the competition that is the 10th-best in program history.
McConnell to Participate in the 2018 Commonwealth GamesAlabama senior Danielle McConnell will represent for her home country of Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Queensland, Australia, April 4-15. The Hobart, Tasmania, native will compete in the women’s hammer throw April 10 at Carrara Sta-dium in Carrara, Queensland. Held every four years, the Commonwealth Games is an Olympic-style multi-sport competition contested by the 71 countries of the British Com-monwealth. This will be McConnell’s fi rst appearance for Australia in the Games.

UTSA INVITATIONAL - MARCH 16-17The Alabama track & fi eld teams opened the 2018 outdoor season at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio, Texas with victories in the
women’s hammer throw, men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, the men’s and women’s 100 meters and the men’s and women’s pole vault.In women’s fi eld events, junior Danielle McConnell opened the meet for the Crimson Tide with a victory in the women’s hammer throw,
posting a mark of 192-1 (58.55m) on her second throw of the competition and senior Britainy Smith won the pole vault with a clearance of 12-9 ½ (3.90m). On the track for the Tide women, sophomore Symone Darius won the women’s 100 meters in 11.46 as Alabama took four of the top fi ve spots in the race. Freshman McKenzie Yanek (17:23.88), junior Kaitlin York (17:24:12) and senior Caroline Barlow (17:35.84) fi nished 2-3-4 in the women’s 5,000 meters. Sophomore Elisabeth Danis fi nished sixth in 17:48.27.
For the Tide men, sophomore Elliott Miller won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in his collegiate debut in the event in a time of 9:53.89 and junior Keitavious Walter won the 100 meters in 10.15. Freshman Jake Spotswood won the pole vault with a clearance of 17-3 ½ (5.27m). Spotswood’s mark ranks No. 6 all-time in UA history.
2018 Meet Recaps
SAMFORD ALABAMA TRACK CHALLENGE - MARCH 23The Alabama track & fi eld teams saw a number of student-athletes make their outdoor debuts at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge on
March 23 in Birmingham, Ala. On the track, freshman Tamara Clark led a Tide sweep of the top four spots in the women’s 100 meters, crossing the line fi rst in 11.27.
Fellow freshman Daija Lampkin was second at 11.44. Sophomore Takyera Roberson fi nished third at 11.76 and senior Olivia Fotopoulou was fourth in 11.82. In the women’s 200 meters, sophomores Katie Funcheon (23.93), Hope Mazi (24.75) and senior Olivia Fotopoulou (24.99) were the top three collegiate fi nishers. Senior Kaitlin Walker won the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 59.09.
On the men’s side, senior Ruebin Walters won the 110-meter hurdles in his fi rst outing of the season in a time of 13.51. Freshman Dylan Scott won the 800 meters in 1:54.00 in his fi rst outdoor collegiate race at that distance. In the 200 meters, junior Keitavious Walter (20.91) and sophomore Alize Ford (21.19) fi nished 1-2.
In the relays, the team of freshmen Lampkin, Clark, sophomore Symone Darius and Roberson won the women’s 4x100-meter relay in a season-best 44.10. The women’s 4x400-meter relay of Mazi, Darius, Funcheon and junior Jada Jackson fi nished fi rst in a time of 3:45.46.
The Crimson Tide men’s quartet of Ford, Walter, Walters and junior Skyler Bowden won the men’s 4x100 in a time of 40.08 in their fi rst outing of the season.
The Alabama women picked up three fi eld event wins as junior Tianah List won the javelin with a throw of 161-7 (49.26), senior Britainy Smith was the top collegiate fi nisher in the pole vault with a UA season-best clearance of 13-1 ½ (4.00m) and freshman Jaimie Robinson won the long jump in her outdoor collegiate debut with a personal-best of 20-2 ¼ (6.15m).

the Vanderbilt Invitational with a clearance of 15-3 (4.65m) ....
competed in the pole vault at the season-opening UAB Blazer
Invitational but did not record a clearance.
2016-172017 Outdoor Season: Finished sixth in the pole vault at the
Jim Bush Collegiate with a clearance of 14-7 1/2 (4.46m) ...
fi nished second in the pole vault at the Crimson Tide Invitational
with a personal-best clearance of 15-5 (4.70m) ... fi nished 18th
in the pole vault at the Florida Relays with a personal-best
clearance of 15-1 3/4 (4.62m) ... made his outdoor collegiate
debut at the Florida State Relays and fi nished fourth in the pole
vault with a clearance of 15-0 1/4 (4.58m).
2017 Indoor Season: Competed in the pole vault at the SEC
Indoor Track & Field Championships but did not record a clean
vault ... posted his top two vaults of the season at the Tiger Paw
Invitational fi nishing eighth in the pole vault with a personal-
best clearance of 15-9 (4.80m) ... also cleared 15-3 (4.65m) at the
Tiger Paw ... fi nished fourth in the pole vault at the Bob Pollock
Invitational with a clearance of 14-9 (4.50m) ... fi nished fi fth in
the pole vault at the Auburn Invitational with a mark of 14-11
(4.55m), equaling his clearance from the previous week ... made
his collegiate debut at the Commodore Invitational and tied for
10th in the pole vault at 14-11 (4.55m).
Prep and Personal: One of the top pole vaulters in Alabama
as a senior ... won the event at every meet he entered in his
fi nal season at Vestavia Hills, including the state indoor and

with a time of 3:09.52 ... fi nished eighth in the 400 meters at the
New Mexico Classic with a time of 48.02 ... ran the anchor leg
of the Alabama “A” 4x400-meter relay that fi nished fi rst at the
Vanderbilt Invitational in a time of 3:07.86 ... fi nished fi fth in the
400 meters at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 47.43 ...
was the top collegiate fi nisher in the 300 meters at the season-

posted the fourth-fastest time in school history at 3:03.26 ... ran
the lead leg on Alabama’s 4x400-meter relay that fi nished fourth
at the NCAA East Regional in 3:03.54 to qualify for the NCAA
Track & Field Championships ... the time is the sixth-fastest in
school history ... ran the third leg on Alabama’s 4x400-meter
relay team that fi nished third at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field

2016 Indoor Season: Participated in the 4x400-meter relay that
fi nished sixth at the SEC Championships in a time of 3:09.77 …
ran the open 200 meters (21.84) and the open 400 meters (48.19)
at the Tyson Invitational … fi nished ninth in the 200 meters at
the New Mexico Classic with a time of 21.41 … clocked a time
of 21.86 in the 200-meter preliminaries at the Conference Clash
… fi nished fi fth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.25 to open
his Alabama career at the Commodore Indoor Invitational.
Prep and Personal: Ran the eighth-fastest indoor 400-meter
time and was also part of the nation’s fastest indoor 4x400
relay team during the 2015 indoor season while competing for
the Michigan All-Stars … earned MVP honors at the Michigan
Indoor State Championships … a fi ve-time MHSAA state
champion, including winning the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay
as a senior … shaved over two seconds off his indoor 400-meter
time (49.37 to 47.66) his senior season … also played football,
basketball and baseball at the varsity level ... did not begin
