IT IS CALLED الشفوي BECAUSE THE
MAKHRAJ OF MEEM IS THE LIPS (ARABIC
‘LIP’ = الشفه)
IF ANY OF THE REMAINING 26 LETTERS FOLLOWS THE MEEM SAAKINAH,
THE MEEM MUST BE PRONOUNCED CLEARLY (إظهار الشفوي)

THE MEEM SAAKINAH COMPLETELY MERGES INTO THE MEEM WITH A HARAKAH, WHICH
THEN BECOMES A MEEM WITH A SHADHDHA. MAXIMUM GHUNNAH MUST BE GIVEN.

LAAM SAAKINAH IN THE DEFINITE ARTICLE ل ا لام التعريف
DEFINITION This refers to the extra laam saakinah added to the word , and is always preceded by a hamzath al wasl.
RULING 1. Idh’haar : When the laam saakinah is followed by one of the following 14 letters:
ك وخف عقيمه إبغ حج
2. Idh’ghaam: When the laam saakinah is followed by the first letters of the words in the following verses:
عم ن ا ذ ف ض ف ت حما ر ل ص م ثـــب ط
لكرمل ريفا ش ر ن ظ وء س ع د
LAAM SAAKINAH IN A VERB لام الفعل
DEFINITION This refers to the laam saakinah that is a part of the basic verb structure (past, present or a command). It could be either in the middle or end of the verb.
RULING 1. Idh’ghaam: When the laam saakinah is followed by ل or ر
يجعل ل كم
وقل ر ب دني علما
2. Idh’haar: When the laam saakinah is followed by any of the remaining letters.
يل تفت
ومن يعمل سوء
[NOTE THE لام الفعل WHICH APPEARS IN A COMMAND IS A PART OF THE BASIC VERB STRUCTURE WHILE الأمرلام IS ADDED TO THE BASIC VERB STRUCTURE ]
LAAM SAAKINAH IN A COMMAND الامرلام
DEFINITION This refers to the laam saakinah, which when added to the beginning of the basic verb structure (in the present tense), changes it into a command.
CONDITION It is a letter of sukoon, and is preceded by ف , و , or ثم
RULING Idh’haar: The ruling is only idh’haar – the laam saakinah must be pronounced clearly.
ف ل يعبدو ف ل ينظر
ثم ل يقضوا تفثهم ول يوفوا نذورهم ول يطوفوا
[NOTE If the laam saakinah is not preceded by ف , و , or ثم , it would change into a kasrah]
ينفق ذو سعة من سعتهلـ
LAAM SAAKINAH IN A NOUN الاسملام
DEFINITION This refers to the laam saakinah that is an original part of a noun, and would appear only within the word, and not at the end.
RULING Idh’haar: The ruling is only idh’haar – the laam saakinah must be pronounced clearly.

RULING 1. Idh’ghaam: When the laam saakinah is followed by ل or ر
