Umpire Score-sheet – 2006 – Rally point scoring system - 1 st Draft The Umpire Score-sheet (revised 16 th December, 2005) The Umpire Score-sheet uses an open-ended method where the numbers of the score are written down after each rally. The score is entered in a double row of boxes (one row for each playing side) with only one score per vertical pair of boxes. Each vertical pair represents one rally. This gives an easy to read method to determine which side has won the rally and is having right to serve (as the serving side is always the one with the score at the front i.e. ahead by one vertical block). If a game fills one double row, the scores are continued on the next double row. The score should be entered with clear p recise numbers. Remember, the Score- sheet is a tool to assist the Umpire and in the moment of “panic” when the exact situation is not clearly remembered, your Score-sheet must be as legible as possible so as to reduce the chance of making an error. It also should assist the Referee to make a decision in case of an appeal. During Play 1.Write the new score in the next available box, in the row of the next server’s name. 2. The players of the receiving side shall not change their respective service courts until they win a point on their service. Thus, when a side loses the right to serve, the player who was serving at that time, shall continue to be in the same service court from where he last served, until his side gains right to serve again and wins a point.

e.g. In diagram 1 – Tang served from right service court when the score was 4-0, he will continue to be inthe right service court until his side gets right to serve and the score becomes 6-7 when Tang will shift to
the left service court.

If the receiving side wins the point to make it ‘service over’, write their new score in the next available
box (last completed box is always the side serving).
3.
Score levelled at 20-all – draw diagonal line on the next available box.4.
If situations listed below occur, use the appropriate alphabet(s) into the next available box in front of the
appropriate player.

5. Write appropriate details about the situations listed above at the bottom of the score sheet. If the space is
not sufficient, write on the back of the score sheet with a specific remark as “For remarks please refer back of the score sheet”.
End of a Game
1.
Write and circle completed game score.
2.
Fill in completed game score at top of the score-sheet.
3. Mark in ‘0’ against initial server and initial receiver at the start of the next game.
4. Note ‘S’ and ‘R’ for the next game.
End of Match
1. Write and circle completed game score.2.
End time – write the time the match ends, ie when Umpire calls ‘game’ at the end of the game which
decides the match.
3. Fill in complete game score at top of the score-sheet.4.
Circle name(s) of the player(s) of the winning side at the top of the score sheet
Post-Match
1.
Duration – calculate and write duration of the match.
2.
Sign the completed score-sheet.3.
Obtain counter-signature from the Referee and hand it over to the match control.
