Head of Sport and Acvies—Mr Dave Capra The Term 4 sporng season got off to a great start over the past week with Swimming, Water polo, Cricket, Sevens Rugby, Canoe Polo, Triathlon, Basketball, Rec Canoeing, Athlecs and the very first of our Tuesday Trail sessions. Regardless of the sport, the boys threw themselves into the acon with enthusiasm and good natured compeveness. Across the different acvies we saw boys enjoying the opportunity to parcipate in the sports they love with their school mates. In parcular it was great to see the new students to our community who are set to join us in 2016 and beyond geng involved in cricket and represenng the College for the first me. The carnival atmosphere on Brothers Oval with 8 of our Under 10 teams playing throughout the morning was enjoyed by all. As always the energy that our youngest students bring to our community is in itself ’energising’ and we look forward to seeing more of this as the season progresses. I hope that all new mem- bers of our community felt very welcome and enjoyed their first official ATC Sporng Experience. Tuesday Trails On Tuesday morning we held the first of our trail running sessions with 22 boys from Year 4 – 8 coming along to run together. For our first session we did a 2km warm up followed by a 2km me trial and then a 2km warm down. A great first effort. The idea of the me trials is to group runners together so that when we do our extended trail runs, we will be running at a similar pace. Tuesday Trails are open to all students, staff and families and it was great to see a group of parents come along and join in our first session. I have been contacted by some mums who suggested a walking group next week which is a great idea—all are welcome, we leave the boom car park at 6.45am. Bring a towel along for a dip in the pool before class. Jazz by the River This weekend our community is really pleased to be hosng our first ever Jazz by the River event. On be- half of the sporng community I would like to wish all of our musicians, music staff and the dedicated group of staff and parents who have worked hard to bring this event together, the very best of luck for what promise to be an outstanding community event. ATC AFL Breakfast Congratulaons to Fiona Kearney and the group of dedicated and passionate AFL parents who put together an outstanding awards breakfast on Sunday morning. This was a great way to finish off a big season of footy. The award recipients were presented with their trophies by Brisbane Lions player Pearce Hanley and the boys were given a year book compiled by parent Suzanne Rosolen which will provide many great mem- ories for years to come. Head of Sport and Activities—Mr Dave Capra
The Term 4 sporting season got off to a great start over the past week with Swimming, Water polo, Cricket,
Sevens Rugby, Canoe Polo, Triathlon, Basketball, Rec Canoeing, Athletics and the very first of our Tuesday
Trail sessions. Regardless of the sport, the boys threw themselves into the action with enthusiasm and
good natured competitiveness.
Across the different activities we saw boys enjoying the opportunity to participate in the sports they love
with their school mates. In particular it was great to see the new students to our community who are set
to join us in 2016 and beyond getting involved in cricket and representing the College for the first time. The
carnival atmosphere on Brothers Oval with 8 of our Under 10 teams playing throughout the morning was
enjoyed by all. As always the energy that our youngest students bring to our community is in itself
’energising’ and we look forward to seeing more of this as the season progresses. I hope that all new mem-
bers of our community felt very welcome and enjoyed their first official ATC Sporting Experience.
Tuesday Trails
On Tuesday morning we held the first of our trail running sessions with 22 boys from Year 4 – 8 coming
along to run together. For our first session we did a 2km warm up followed by a 2km time trial and then a
2km warm down. A great first effort. The idea of the time trials is to group runners together so that when
we do our extended trail runs, we will be running at a similar pace. Tuesday Trails are open to all students,
staff and families and it was great to see a group of parents come along and join in our first session. I have
been contacted by some mums who suggested a walking group next week which is a great idea—all are
welcome, we leave the bottom car park at 6.45am. Bring a towel along for a dip in the pool before class.
Jazz by the River
This weekend our community is really pleased to be hosting our first ever Jazz by the River event. On be-
half of the sporting community I would like to wish all of our musicians, music staff and the dedicated
group of staff and parents who have worked hard to bring this event together, the very best of luck for
what promise to be an outstanding community event.
ATC AFL Breakfast
Congratulations to Fiona Kearney and the group of dedicated and passionate AFL parents who put together
an outstanding awards breakfast on Sunday morning. This was a great way to finish off a big season of
footy. The award recipients were presented with their trophies by Brisbane Lions player Pearce Hanley and
the boys were given a year book compiled by parent Suzanne Rosolen which will provide many great mem-
ories for years to come. Congratulations to all award recipients and to all involved in putting together such
Sport News – Cricket— After a long period of preparation (or short, depending on how you look at it), 24 ATC
teams stepped out in College colours on Saturday for the first day of Term 4 junior club cricket in the various Brisbane North competitions. Judging by the happy, smiling faces, everyone enjoyed themselves and the boys playing cricket did too.
Eight ATC U10 teams played matches on the Brothers Ovals whilst two ATC U11 teams played Valleys teams on the Jack Bowers Ovals. The canteen was pumping out the bacon and egg burgers and cold drinks, the coffee van was doing a steady business and the sun was shining. It was real carnival atmosphere at the College. The matches were closely contested and I was amazed that the Year 3 boys, not even at the College as yet, were able to belt out the war cry at the end of their matches. Well done to every-one. Notable performances were Lochlan Rutch with the first Michelle of the season (5/18 v St Patrick’s Red U13) and Seth Cheadle taking his first wicket in his first ever game of cricket (1/25 v Valley Green U13).
U10 teams play Round 2 this Saturday whilst U11-14 complete their Round 1 matches.
Whilst the College will provide ample cricket gear for boys to use at team training sessions and matches, it is strongly recommended that boys have their own batting gloves and protector for hygiene reasons. In fact, this recommenda-tion appears in the Brisbane North rules 2.2 (c). These items can be purchased from any sports or cricket store and I will have stock available for purchase at team training sessions over the next couple of weeks.
The Cricket Intensives program, led by Mr Gary Jones, has resumed and is conducted 3:15pm-4:45pm Monday after-noons at Jack Bowers Oval. This is an opportunity for boys of all Year groups and standards to gain a little extra crick-et coaching during the week. No registration is required nor commitment to attend every Monday. A boy may feel he needs help with his bowling action or forward defence or catching etc. He would be able to go down to the nets on a Monday afternoon and receive some tuition from a qualified HCA coach from 3:15pm. He may be there for 30 minutes, an hour, or the entire period. It does not matter but it is a user pays system and the cost is $20.00. Coach-ing could be in the form of one on one, small group or large group, depending on the number of boys attending and the aspect of their game requiring attention. Please note there will be no intensives Monday 19 October.
Parents are requested to provide coaches, managers and Age Group Coordinators with as much notice as possible in regard to absences. Obviously, this is not possible with Saturday morning illness but players can be shifted between teams to ensure maximum participation on match day if absences are known in advance. Players will gain far more by playing in a team of 10 or 11 than 8 or 9. We want to have as many boys as possible participating fully every Sat-urday. There is no need to inform Mr Capra or I of short term absences, only if a boy will be absent for a significant period.
Good luck to luck to all this Saturday. Have fun!

After a successful ‘orientation to volleyball’ for ATC students in term one, the College has been invited to compete in The Gap State High School Invitational Spring Series Volleyball Competition in term four. Hats off to the students who took up the opportunity to train through the holidays, improving their skills for the competition ahead. I would also like to welcome all the new students and their families to ATC volleyball and thank them in advance for their support throughout term four.
The College Volleyball uniform consists of a jersey (provided by Mr Tim Walker) that is to be returned at the end of the season, College volleyball shorts (that can be purchased from the uniform shop), white socks and supportive shoes. The shorts do NOT have pockets and are designed as such to avoid injuries to thumbs when players are jumping. Please ensure your son has these shorts by week 2 of the competition (Thursday 22nd October).
ATC Volleyball has been lucky enough to secure the special expertise of Dean Mayfield as one of our coach-es. Dean has a wealth of experience in volleyball as a player and coach, and is a member of the Queensland Pirates Men’s Volleyball team who are currently playing to defend their last two National titles in the Aus-tralian Volleyball League (AVL). We welcome Dean on board and are excited to see our boys improve under his guidance. Thanks also to Mr Mark Watson who has been a welcome addition to our coaching team.
Teams were selected on Tuesday and will play their first round tonight (Thursday 15th October). The College buses will transport the students to The Gap State High School, however, private transport will be required home for the duration of the season. Teams and fixtures for this week are listed below. Please note that ATC 3 will play 2 games in week one. Best of luck to all boys in their first game. Throughout the course of the competition, parents can contact me on 0410 611 496.
