Dear Friends,

September 1 through

October 4 has been

designated as the Season

of Creation. It is a time

for earth’s 2.2 billion

Christians to pray and

commit ourselves to

caring for God’s creation.

This year, amid crises that

have shaken our world,

we’re awakened to the

urgent need to heal our

relationships with creation

and each other. An

ecumenical service will be

held on Tuesday,

September 22, at 6:30pm,

at Resurrection Parish. It

will also be livestreamed.

I will be taking part in it

and hope you can join us

too.

Please join in praying this

prayer for all of creation.

Blessings,

Sr. Marla Clercx, ANG Pastoral Leader

September is the start of our annual Ecumenical Partnership for Housing (EPH) giving campaign. If you are not familiar with EPH, it is a partnership with 20 area churches, The Salvation Army, Golden House and many other service providers in our community – all with the same goal of meeting the needs of fami-

lies with children experiencing homelessness. EPH provides a pathway to self-sufficiency through transitional housing, long-term supportive housing, and a prevention program to avoid evictions that includes case management and related services to maintain housing stability. We jointly sponsor the transi-tional Martha House with Nativity Parish. We sponsor the lower unit and Nativity sponsors the upper unit.

Please prayerfully consider how you can become involved in EPH. There are several ways that you can help support EPH -- through financial support, volunteering to help with home turnover and light maintenance, providing items on the wish list and through prayer. We are also looking for a volunteer outside coordinator for our transitional house. For details, contact Gary or Cheri Shebesta (contact info below). If you are interested in more information about EPH or would like to volunteer, please feel free to reach out to any of the follow-ing EPH representatives from our parish:

▪ Joan Lucas, 920-621-2950 or [email protected]. Elizabeth Ann Seton EPH Board member

▪ Lisa Maas, [email protected] Executive Board member

▪ Gary & Cheri Shebesta, 920-676-2646 or [email protected] Home Unit & Exterior Coordinators

EPH also has a wish list of items needed to support the fami-lies. A list of current items needed is below and online at https://ephgb.org/how-to-help/wish-list. From September 11 through September 27, there will be a cart outside door #1 to collect items for EPH from their wish list.

Karla’s Story

Karla has inspired us here at EPH and holds a special place in our hearts. Karla and her four chil-dren entered the EPH transitional

housing program from an area shelter, which they had been in due to domestic abuse. Karla worked diligently in that program and met her goals quickly. She was accepted into our long-term supportive housing pro-gram this spring in which she pays rent and utilities relative to her income, with the amount increasing as her situation continues to improve. Karla takes pride in raising her children and having a stable job. Her dream is to purchase the EPH home she lives in where her “kids can grow and have a stable place to live.”

Karla’s story is also an example of the gift of EPH vol-unteers. Deacon Dale Hutjens of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church (an EPH partnership congregation) is part of our gardening mentorship team and worked with Karla, teaching her skills while she developed a love of gar-dening. To see a video message from Karla, go online to https://www.dropbox.com/s/n91nmz06ip7g712/Karla%20Facebook%20Video.mp4?dl=0. Karla says, “I’m just so blessed…” And, we are blessed by you.

COVD-19 Impact

Many friends of EPH have asked, how can I help during this time? We have found our eviction preven-tion services have been the most impacted by the Coro-navirus pandemic. The month of July saw the highest number of new family intakes, highest number of case management hours and the largest dollar amount of assistance given since the inception of the program. The number of new family intakes increased by 40 fam-ilies from first quarter to second quarter 2020. Families have been and continue to be directly impacted by job loss, children learning virtually, lack of affordable and available childcare, as well as other effects of the pandemic. EPH differs from some agencies in that we do not simply assist with rental payments but offer case management ensuring that a greater number of families become/remain stable and self-sufficient—which is our goal. We walk with these families over several months and develop relationships with them and a plan. We work jointly with their landlords. We offer more than financial assistance.

Our Cal l as Cathol ic Cit izens

As a nation, we share many blessings and

strengths, including a tradition of religious freedom and political participation. As Catholics

we are called to participate in public life in a

manner consistent with the mission of our

Lord, a mission that he has called us to

share. The U.S. Bishops state that protection of life and the dignity of the

human person are foundational and that

without this, all other treatments of the human person become

relative and circumstantial. Catholics are urged to consider the

church teachings on life from conception to natural death to help

shape the moral character of our communities and society so that our children and grandchildren can continue to live in a country

that is so abundantly blessed. For more informaion, call the parish

office or go to www.faithfulcitizenship.org.

November 1 is All Saints’ Day. To help us celebrate, we invite our youth (and adults) to dress as a saint. To help with that, we will be collecting various “saint” props for those who wish to dress up. If you would like to donate items, they can be dropped off in the labeled bin in the hospitality area. Items that may not necessarily be used this year are still appreciated for use in future events and activities.

We will also accept candy donations for the treat bags. Thank you!

During the 10:30am Mass on November 1, those who wish can share more about their saint. After Mass, safe treat bags will be distributed.
