SCHOOL DISMISSAL ON FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER AT 2.30PM

A reminder that school finishes early on Friday and students will be dismissed from their Learning Communities at 2.30pm

CONGRATULATIONS

We congratulate all students who received a certificate this term for a Value of the Week Award, Student of the Term, Specialist Award and in addition the successful Home Groups that received the Specialist Home Group of the Term Award.

Well done to the 42 students who were voted by their peers to have Principal’s Lunch yesterday. We all enjoyed celebrating their good behaviour, working extremely well as Tulliallan students and enjoying pizza and a Zooper Dooper water ice.

THIS WEEK OUR VALUE OF THE WEEK IS: COURTESY

Courtesy is when you wait patiently for your turn to speak to someone without interrupting. Courtesy is when you say please and thank you at the right times. Courtesy means that you are able to use good manners such as when you say, “Excuse me”. Courtesy is a way of demonstrating that you respect yourself and others.

SPORTS AND FOOTY COLOURS DAY THURSDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

As we head to the finals of many sports and in particular footy, Tulliallan Primary School will be having a Sports and Footy Colours Day on Thursday 19th September. The students are encouraged to dress in their favourite sport or footy team’s colours. This is a fun day for students and no cost.

BASKETBALL COURT RECTIFICATION PROGRAM

Parents may have noticed that our Basketball Court has been fenced off to start rectifications to improve its quality. We believe that it will be out of action for Term 4. The timeline was out of our hands and relayed to us via the PPP partnership. It is fortunate that we can still access the school via the ramp that leads to the bike shed.

LIGHT THE NIGHT EVENT – WEDNESDAY 9TH OCTOBER AT APPROXIMATELY 6.30PM

Light the Night is the Leukaemia Foundation’s beautiful, evening lantern walk where Australians come together and transform the darkness into a sea of glowing light to beat blood cancer.

It’s your night to walk beside those facing their own blood cancer journey, and to remember loved ones lost. At Tulliallan we are raising awareness and support for students and families who are experiencing either current treatment for Leukaemia or family loss.

We will meet at the front of our school at approximately 6.30pm and walk to the avenue of Elms and hold our lanterns high together. We wish to bring the community into this event. We hope you will walk with us and participate.

If you wish to make a donation, please visit the following link:

http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/tulliallanprimaryschool

Otherwise you can just join us for the walk.

HATS - SUNSMART TERM 4

All students must wear a school hat that has a brim in Term 4. No hat means no play or ability to participate in outdoor sports. Please make sure your child is prepared for Term 4 so they do not miss out. You can purchase school hats from PSW or from our school office.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their hard work with our students this term. Thank you to our families who are very supportive of the Tulliallan programs that we offer and your participation in the extra events we have initiated to give students as many opportunities in a variety of disciplines and in their learning. Enjoy a safe and happy holiday with your families and I look forward to seeing you in Term 4.

Happy Holiday!

I SEA, I CARE PEER TEACHING

Last Friday the Marine Ambassadors presented a Peer Teaching Workshop to the Prep students. They presented a range of activities to teach students about the wonders of Port Phillip Bay and the impact of plastic pollution on our marine animals. Check out some of the photos from their presentation.

I SEA, I CARE COASTAL WORKSHOP

Last Thursday the Marine Ambassadors participated in their third workshop for the year. They went with Miss Sutherland and Mrs Kenner to Warneet and engaged in a number of activities including learning about the Aboriginal history of the area, finding out how to identify the fins of dolphins, weeding and plant identification plus a native frog activity at Warneet reserve. The workshop finished with a barbeque lunch, which they all enjoyed. Well done and thank you to Mrs Kenner and Miss Sutherland.

NUDE FOOD NINJA OF THE WEEK

Congratulations Sara from 1A for being a Nude Food Ninja and bringing an excellent lunch to school. Well done!

COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY - CHILD SAFE STANDARDS Tulliallan Primary School is committed to child safety. We want children to be safe, happy and empowered. MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 7TH – 11TH OCTOBER Mental Health Week is a national week celebrated each year in October around the World. Mental Health Day on October 10th. The theme for Mental Health Week 2019 in Victoria is

Mental Health: What do you know?

We are asking Victorians what they know about mental health. The Tulliallan Community will be focusing on strategies to help students keep a positive mind set and participate in meditation sessions. The Learning Communities will spend their Wellbeing time discussing what students know about mental health and having a positive mindset. They will participate in hands on activities and ‘GoNoodle’ sessions (https://app.gonoodle.com/discover) that will assist in managing stress, practising self-control, boosting confidence, enhancing their focus and the importance of stretching/breathing.

5 TIPS TO HAVE A HEALTHY MIND Take Time to De-Stress Everyone has their own de-stressors, the things that make them instantly relax and feel rejuvenated.

Have a Chat Talking over issues is a great way to resolve a problem. Sometimes just talking over something out loud can help you untangle a tricky issue, and your conversation partner might help you see something from a different point of view!

Have a Good Work/Life Balance Switch Off Your devices Set Realistic Expectations – It’s OK to Say ‘No’ Choose One Activity For Yourself A Week

Take Care of your Physical Wellbeing Ensure you get enough sleep Eat a balanced diet Be active

Practice Mindfulness Be aware of the things around you and the physical and emotional sensations that your body is experiencing.

BIODIVERSITY TIP OF THE WEEK - CLEAN UP

There is too much rubbish in our environment - on land and at sea, so let’s do something about it. Each time you visit the beach, take ‘3 For the Sea’ or join a beach patrol. City of Casey also has a ‘Love Our Streets’ group where the community comes together to stop litter at the source. Remember, everyday is Clean Up Australia Day.

Stay tuned for more tips next term.
