We hope they are now in routine at home with their reading each night, and various homework tasks as well as accessing the online programs with their username and passwords. As part of our social skills program we ask students to rate how they are feeling at the start of each day in their home groups and we talk about the value of the week. The Supporting Value of the Week is Tolerance This week students are concentrating on the value of tolerance. Melbourne Football Club Visit
On Monday three AFL players from the Melbourne Football Club: Max Gawn, Bayley Fritsch and Aaron Vandenberg conducted a football clinic plus a reading session. Melbourne Football club are part of the Read Like a Demon program which promotes Literacy within schools. We will be part of this program again this year, which opens up lots of opportunities for our students to improve their
reading skills.
George Ivanoff
George Ivanoff is an author and stay-at-home Dad residing in Melbourne, Australia. He has written over 100 books for children and teenagers, including fiction and non-fiction. He has written school readers, library reference books, chapter books, novelettes, novels and even a short story collection. His latest series are choose your
own adventure stories.
Today our Year 3-6 students where fortunate enough to hear author George Ivanoff talk to our students about writing and practising being an author. Authors use Writers Notebooks and at Tulliallan we encourage all students to have a Writer’s Notebook where they can keep ideas for writing to give them inspiration. It was great to see students so interested in George’s presentation and they were all
very keen to line up and get his autograph.
ICAS Exams
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
is an independent, quality skills-based assessment program which
rewards and recognises achievement. ICAS gives you broad insights
into your child’s performance across English, Mathematics, Science,
Digital Technologies, Spelling and Writing. ICAS (sometimes referred
to as the UNSW assessments) has been developed by Educational
Assessment Australia (EAA) since 1981.
When your child takes part in ICAS assessments, we can track their
learning as they progress from year to year. It also helps us identify
potentially gifted students and those who may need more focused
and purposeful teaching to achieve their best.
Last week all the information and an entry form was posted onto Compass for students wanting to sit any of the ICAS exams. The exams are for students in years 3-6. If you wish your child to be involved in these exams, please fill in the paperwork and return to
school before March 19th.
Mad on Music Visit
This Friday Ash who conducts our Mad on Music Lessons will be visiting Prep and Year One students to discuss the private lessons that are conducted at school on a Wednesday. Any students interested in learning keyboard, guitar or singing are encouraged to
take a flyer home explaining the program.
Have a lovely week as we now head into Autumn

WANTED FOR STEM
“Science . Technology. Engineering . Mathematics”
Dear Tulliallan Community,
Our Year 3/4 and 5/6 students need your help. This term we have been exploring all the different forces surrounding Physical Science. Within the last
three weeks, we have investigated both aerodynamics and air resistance and now comes the time to put our theories to the test. We are using the six
step engineering design process to create parachutes…but that means we need materials…lots of materials. Examples include plastic bags, string,
cotton, boxes, cardboard, paper, cling wrap, toilet rolls and empty milk bottles. So, if you have anything that could be used in our creations could you
please send them into Tulliallan for your child’s home room teacher or give them to Mrs Kettle. This would be greatly appreciated and would mean a lot
to have a large variety of options when conducting our experiments.
Many Thanks
Mrs Kettle
Since starting at Tulliallan Primary School this term, our Preps have been learning all about our Learning Community routines. They have explored how to make and play with new friends, what a good student looks like as well as what a good teacher looks like. Prep students have been practicing writing their names correctly using upper and lower case letters, and are learning a number of key reading skills such as pointing to each word as they read and using the pictures to help them understand what they read. The Preps have also been exploring two dimensional shapes and improving their counting skills. It has been wonderful getting to know each other over our first few weeks at school!
