PEBBLE PUPS

Two newbies Ziah White and Warren English joined five regulars as we completed our rock-testing kits with an acid

(in this case vinegar) and did some experimenting with it The Hanksite is a very reactive carbonate mineral and pro-

duced some very satisfying bubbles when wetted with the acid (the quartz sample did not react at all) Then the Pups

set about creating their own mineral identification charts We will do some more of this later on Thank you Ian Kirk

for being there and helping We hope the newbies liked what they experienced and come back for more

For a homework assignment I asked each Pup to look around one room of su house and identify how various rocks

and minerals were used in the construction and furnishing of that room and to write a report about what each finds

and send that report to the newsletter editor or bring it to the next meeting Pups in your reports remember to incor-

porate the 5 Ws and How Who You Pebble Pup Where What room did you choose When What day did you do

this What Looked around the room and identified how rocks and minerals were used in that room (and then list

what you found) Why What did this exercise teach you How How did you identify these rocks and minerals in use

Did you get help from a book or the internet Write this up in a paragraph or two and turn it in

I realize we are facing uncertainty right now about when we will resume meeting but we know we will resume even-

tually if not sooner So I am moving forward with my Plans for the Pups At our next meeting Holly Proctor will lead us

studying ancient tools and art work In May we will work on some educational posters to share our hobby with others

and in June we will be preparing for our show Anybody can put a display in at our show your own collections are

great for showing off Several of us are ready and willing to help you get started

holding her offering for another month in the hopes the World will return to some semblance of normal

and more people are afforded the chance to enjoy this fine presentation If Leon Reeder is willing we will

feature Leonrsquos works in May

This display case if for anyone to share su hobby ndash whatever you like however you like it We are all inter-

ested in each otherrsquos findings so please corral your shyness and put in a display
