Few Words from Vice-Chancellor’s Desk…

Arunoday Saha Vice Chancellor,Tripura University

Tripura University has embarked on a journey in pursuit of excellence. Our

existence as a Central University for almost five years has provided great fillip

in the path of development. Expansion is being pursued in all spheres. Besides

disseminating education and learning, we have also performed our

responsibilities towards the society.

The university has been illuminated by the rare effulgence and radiance of Her

Excellency, the President of India and the Visitor of Tripura University, Smt.

Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who graced the 8th Convocation as Chief Guest and

delivered the Convocation Address. Her address inspired the University to

chart a course of action for a better future. The University strives to blend the

local knowledge base with the academic expertise gathered by the university

fraternity over time.

During the 9th Convocation, we were the proud host of His Excellency, Vice -

President of India, Sri. Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Her Excellency Sheikh

Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. It was a rare occasion when an

Indian University conferred a foreign head of state with D.Lit (HonorisCausa). I

am firmly convinced that in the near future, Tripura University will not only

emerge as a major centre of learning in the region and in the country but will

also become a unique destination for people across the globe.

Of late, Placement Cell of Tripura University has started functioning as the

getaway for students into the Professional World. Various Public & Private

sector companies are now visiting the campus to recruit students from various

professional courses. In today‟s competitive world, the edge is always with the

dedicated professionals. This is where Tripura University scores highly with its

well-framed curriculum, experienced faculty members and, above all, a unique

Welcome to Department of Management, the MBA program at the Tripura

University, Agartala, and Tripura. It is indeed my privilege to present to you a

group of students who are potential managers of tomorrow. In today's

competitive business world, everything boils down to execution and this is

where we step in. Our students are groomed into budding professionals who

are ready to take up challenges and focus on the dynamic needs of various

sectors. These professionals have been exposed to numerous dimensions of

management theory and practices that seek to imbibe in them the spirit of

inquisition and the ability to think and act independently. The rigors of our

curriculum align to the needs and aspirations of the industry in order to ensure

that students integrate theoretical knowledge to developing of their analytical

and decision-making skills. Apart from Entrepreneurship, on which the course

is specialized, students have been exposed to all disciplines of management like

Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resources and Systems. Our credo of

management with a human face and the social orientation that they have

received from during the course sets these students apart. The demanding

regimen that they undergo has equipped them with the skills to excel in the

area of their competence. There is no doubt in my mind that they will surpass

has to equip himself towards Continuous change by developing unique

blend of skills and values.

Department of Business Management, Tripura University (A Central

University) cultivates an integrated culture comprising of continuous

learning and ample opportunities to hone the students and develop their

value- driven competencies. This Unique culture will promote the future

managers in becoming innovative, competent and ingenious business

leaders.

Global recession is knocking at the door. It may shatter the dreams of

hundreds and thousands of youngsters in General and would –be business

executives in particular. That is why the call of the hour is to equip

themselves with knowledge and wisdom of management science so that

they can identify the real cause behind this malady and prescribe the way-

out to overcome this crisis. And we know that our students would be able

About Tripura University

Since the very inception of the state Tripura due to the geographic isolation and the distance from the

University of Calcutta, it was virtually not possible on the part of a large number of students of this

state to continue further studies after graduation. Taking into consideration the long cherished

demands of the students community, growing aspirations of the people at large and also

acknowledging the present and future needs of education in the state, the State Government took the

initiative to pass the Tripura University Act in the Assembly in 1987 and the first University in the

state came into being on 2nd October 1987, the birth day of Gandhiji, the „Father of the Nation‟. The

dreams of thousands of people were at last fulfilled. Despite several odds, the University has been

successful in overcoming of the various difficulties with the cooperation of the State Government, the

UGC, the NEC and the Planning Commission of India and many other authorities.

Tripura University has been converted

to a Central University w.e.f 2nd July,

2007 under the Tripura University Act,

2006 as enacted by the Parliament.

Tripura University epitomizes the

aspirations of the state‟s people for

academic excellence at the highest

level and quest for knowledge. It is

axiomatic that knowledge alone forms

the basis of progress and development

in the present internet-driven world.

With its cryptic motto „pursuit of

excellence‟ Tripura University has

dedicated itself to this noble task ever

since it had been launched on October

A flash-back to the historical background of the university sheds fascinating light on the series of

developments that culminated in the setting up of the university.

About Department of Business Management

In today‟s world, which is highly connected and business opportunities are growing at a very fast

rate. People have become more open to new ideas and technologies and are willing to apply it. In

such a scenario, it is very essential that key objectives, concepts and techniques are found out,

studied and applied.

A three-year Bachelor Course and a two- year Master‟s Degree Course in Business

Administration leading to the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

in 2003-2004 and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) has been introduced by Tripura

University from the Academic Session, 2005-2006. Both the BBA and MBA Programmes of

Tripura University has been designed in tune with patterns followed by the leading Management

academics and prospering B-Schools of the country that offers similar programmes by a team of

top management experts of the eastern region.

The programme offers dual specialization in Entrepreneurship Development & Small Business

Management along with traditional areas of Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource

Management. Due emphasis has been given on developing innovative entrepreneurs so as to

enable the students to become job creators and not only job seekers. Following AICTE

guidelines, emphasis is being given on the ethics and values dimension of management. It can,

therefore, be said that Department of Management, is being able to cater for the current and

future needs of society as well as the organizations where the students are going to work in

future.

The Department of Business Management, Tripura University has been imparting a very rigorous

Post Graduate Degree Course in Business Administration (MBA) along a BBA program also. These

programs have been highly acclaimed in state Tripura as well as outside the state a due to the

distinguished faculty and the hard working students that enter the program.The main process

emphasized at Department of Management, Tripura University is “thinking process”. The students

are trained to think deeply and rigorously to confront the problem in hand with all the relevant

information available. A typical DOBM graduate is therefore trained to apply contemporary

analytical skills with rigorous work discipline to practical applications, through various project

works. This makes DOBM graduate competent enough in the areas of business and financial

forecasting, structure of business organization and quantitative decision making along with financial

Being a student here for almost a

year and half I can say that the period

I spent at Department of Business

Management, Tripura University is

one of the best time of my life. The

main objective to study at DOBM

was to learn management skills
