It is like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends, ‘We played wedding songs. and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t mourn.’ For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.” I have read this passage many times but never from this version, the J.B. Philip New Testament translation. I find it to be very interesting. I love the wording and the way that they put everything together. The questions that they pose are intriguing. They write: " But how can I show what the people of this generation are like; they are like children sitting in the marketplace calling out to their friends we played at your wedding for you but you wouldn't dance, and we played at your funerals but you wouldn't cry. For John came into the strictest ancestry and people say he was crazy. Then the Son of man came enjoying life and people say he looks a drunkard and a glutton. He's the bosom-friends of the tax collector and the sinner. Well, wisdom stands or falls by her own actions.” That is a powerful translation of some incredible scripture from the New Testament. Some people have a tendency to hone in on the wrong thing and always have. We find a way to see the negative even though we are surrounded by wonderful things and wonderful people. But out of all that was said there's one thing that stands out more than anything else. That is the statement that Jesus came enjoying life. We know that Jesus was ridiculed and that He was conspired against and that He was betrayed. He was beaten and murdered. And we know that He had knowledge that this was going to happen well in advance. Yet He enjoyed life. He dealt with all the issues of the day, all of the pain and the suffering. He saw people in the worst of situations, yet he enjoyed life. He knew where He came from; He knew who He was; He knew that he deserved loyalty, respect and love. Continued on Page 8

Christian Higher Education
Two members of Trinity United Methodist
Church have been selected for the Trinity
Scholarship Program of $500.00 each for the
2017-2018 academic year. These students are
as follows: Horry-Georgetown Technical
College, Matthew Daniel, Horry- Georgetown
Technical College, Michael Daniel. These
students benefit from money awarded through
the Trinity Scholarship Program. This fund
was begun in the mid-1980’s by an anonymous
donor to help defray tuition costs. Available
monies are dispersed annually among success-
ful applicants. Closing date for applications
each year is April 30.

We are part way through the summer, and we
still have two months to go! We hope your family
stays engaged through one of our Youth outings,
Terrific Tuesdays, camps or other programs.
The Education Committee is not meeting
this month on the 4th in recognition of
the 4th of July. Keep an eye on your
email if you are on the committee for
communication if something comes up.
Terrific Tuesdays are back!
Here are our JULY Terrific Tuesdays!
July 18th—Hippo Water Slide $5
July 25th— Candy-Making Party
Terrific Tuesdays are for children pre-K through
5th grade. We do need updated release forms for
these activities, and all activities will involve us
meeting here at 10 am and returning at noon.
Please contact Charles to sign up.
The Youth group is going to Cane Patch par 3!
On July 19th at 10 am, we will be leaving the
church and traveling to Cane Patch where we will
be playing “Pitch and Putt.” Don’t worry if you
don’t play actual golf, you don’t need a full set of
clubs and you can have a good time on this very
short family friendly course that only requires you
to have two clubs! Make sure you have a release
form signed for the year, and we hope to see you
there!
The summer is when we do a lot
of planning for the Fall’s MYF
and Trinity Kid’s activities. We
will be needing additional help
this coming year, including
meals, helping with activities
and cleanup. If you want to be
involved in some way, please
contact Charles.
Our Youth group will be helping decorate for VBS at
an overnight lock-in on Thursday, July 6th into
Friday, July 7th. As with the trip to Cane Patch, we
will need an updated release form on file for your
son/daughter.

Welcome Our Summer Foreign Students
If you look closely, you may notice some young people peddling around with backpacks and some
confused expressions. You may encounter them as they navigate the grocery store or ask directions
with decidedly foreign accents. These young people have arrived, often at significant expense, to
learn about America and to earn college monies.
Approximately 4,000 foreign students, aged 19-24 are granted J-1 Work Visas each summer to come
to the Grand Strand for work and cultural enrichment. English is often the 3rd or 4th language for
these future national leaders who are extremely vulnerable to labor and sex trafficking abuses and
to theft and manipulation as they have little knowledge of our practices, laws, and protections.
Several years ago, the Myrtle Beach Police Department began a welcoming program to ensure that
these young people were greeted by SAFE and HELPFUL volunteers upon their airport arrivals. This
program has grown and now includes weekly orientation sessions that provide basic information to the
students, introduce them to resources, and provide links for safety. Several churches (Seacoast
Vineyard Church and Surfside Baptist Church) also now host weekly All Nations Cafes’ potluck meals
as a means of fellowship and connection.
During June, our North Myrtle Beach Police Department initiated a J-1 Orientation Program at the
NMB First Baptist Church, and plans have begun for a bigger and better program in 2018. We hope
to eventually interest a group of willing NMB churches into opening an All Nations Café for the
students in our neighborhood.
In the interim, take the time to engage with these young people and share the American spirit of
friendship, welcome, and inclusion that makes our country so unique. Help them, as you’re able,
referring problems to 9-1-1 and/or local churches.
Learn more about our summer neighbors at www.j1MyrtleBeach.com or at
www.allnationscafemyrtlebeach.com If you have a guest room to rent to summer students, contact
Becky Ruland of International Networx at 806-683-9900.
Quick Remind …….
The Crafters will NOT meet during the month of July!
And even though He didn't receive all of this, not even from those who professed to be his friends, still
it says that He enjoyed life.
Quite often He was with some of the worst of people for the purpose of winning them to God.
He even had to allow one of His closest friends to die in order to do God's will and bring God glory by
raising him from the dead. Still He enjoyed life. This makes me think that even in our worse situations
there's got to be something to this enjoying life.
For Jesus to have left us this as an example, it has got to be a good way to live. We sometimes
spend more time moaning and groaning than we do laughing. We sometimes spend more time
complaining and drowning ourselves in pity than we do counting our blessings and praising God. But
the truth is even medical science today will tell you that laughter is one of the best medicines. No
matter what we're going through, there is a God who loves us more than we can ever imagine. Jesus
knew this, and I believe this is how he was able to enjoy life even under the harshest circumstances.
Jesus told us in this life we would have trouble but because of Him we could overcome.
This also leads me to believe that joy is a choice that each and every one of us can make every
day of our lives. It appears to me that joy can be one of the most wonderful prescriptions for what ails
you. Our ability to find joy in the saddest and most disturbing situation can help us make it through
another day. Even in the midst of pain and sorrow, joy can make things feel so much better. So my
suggestion to myself and to all of you is that we move beyond that state of gloom and despair that is
caused by whatever and reach out to God and ask Him to give us the strength to enjoy each day that He
blesses us. As we celebrate Independence Day, let us also celebrate the Independence that God has
given us through Jesus. Let us use that independence to make each a day of joy in Jesus’ name. Jesus
and joy: what an incredible prescription for what ails you!
Rev. Edmond Daniel
Dear friends George (Mr. Joe) Banaian's family are so grateful for your prayers, praise and fellowship at his death to life and glory at being with His heavenly father for eternity. Your letters and cards and sweet hugs bring Christ's peace to our hearts.
Joe opened his arms to Jesus as his spirit left us all behind. Put the promise is true we will all know joy again.
